@@Angel-VTek Max the memory out is usually what I have to do (or am willing to do typically). Like this Lenovo X200 I'm on now, I only maxed the memory out. I used to upgrade to max out the CPU's in my desktops sometimes and sometimes found mobo manufacturers has better firmware than HP or whomever so could put an even better CPU in. Haven't seen that in years though. I have an old Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev. 4.1) I picked up at the ASU surplus store for $20 that is just a case, video card and mobo, so need to find a CPU and memory for. That's my newest computer I'm thinking about building since the DaVinci Resolve recommends quad core and 16GB memory at least. Different is the price for those 8 core CPU's have skyrocketed in price unfortunately. I try not to update to newer programs also unless I have to and make sure to burn copies on DVD's or used to use CD's so can re-install later if something happens.

but in order to have a powerful x86 based router, you should use pc as router, in the case of buying router, you will get a crap mobile ARM cpu with your router that will shut off at the third sec its loaded, or somebody playing by ddosing you.
Actually you just need to plug the ethernet cable into a ethernet switch or whatever it's called. It splits up the signals into three to five, depending on what you buy. Correct me if i am wrong.

nem um pouco. vale a pena comprar um roteador de 400 e gastar 6-10W doq ter um pc de 300 ou até mais caro e transformar em um roteador.

Есть комп 1999 года P3 600Mhz 256 мег памяти видео Mx440 64 мега вот на таком он бы делал маршрутизатор в нём 2 usb 4 Pci слота 2 Isa 1 Agp x2 в котором стоит видео карта 2 Ata (Ide) порта под жестяки а то 775 сокет 2008-07 года понятно что потянет.

Turning a PC into such a router is stupid because it consumes about 100W (min) instead of 10W (max) With exactly the same functionality.
Not really. The tdp's listed on cpu's is for their max power consumption. So for instance just because a intel or amd cpu has a 125w tpd unless it's at 100% usage, it's not going to use anywhere near that.
And what happens when your old computer's power supply or motherboard dies because of its age? You have no internet and you wonder why you had not bought a real router?
Seriously? Even the super old pentium pro I still have uses the same power supply as current PCs. So you just replace it, they are cheap.
