EXCELLENT!!! As a hairdresser that has not worked since my daughter was born 13 years ago, I still love to do colors...and now I have two of them with GORGEOUS HAIR- (yes, the hairdresser wants kids with nice hair) and the older one wants more of an ombre, so I will do this technique for her...and watch some vids about ombre coloring techniques! I love how you explained things... and I appreciate your time and videos! Melissa
I'm a licensed Cosmo and this is by far the best balayage tutorial I've seen. The background music was perfect and your voice was perfect. I could understand everything you said and nothing was distracting from the actual lesson. Very satisfied. I'm going to apply what learned from this to my first client today. Thank you SO much for sharing!
this was the most amazing video I have ever seen! Especially since Ive been dying to learn how to work with Balyage and your tut. was amazingly easy to follow , your voice, your instructions were so simple and right to the point. :)) BUT if I were to change anything .....the music was to loud and distracting. Dont think people should use music when doing tutorials . Thank U thank U ~looking forward to learning more from you.
I really like the way Brian explains as well as very closely shows and tell products used and why in this video love the blonde hope to have mine done that way beautiful ty Brian very informative
love all your videos and really enjoying bringing these techniques to my clients all the way over here in New Zealand ! It's really cool to have a channel like yours for inspiration...and they are really good for people like me with a short attention span ! Thanks
This was great! About 9 years out of the business but i still retain my license. I was always so ocd about foil placement I could never really visualize the whole balyage technique. This video has a great technique and pattern to follow. Love the "v" placement and using a "non-puffing" bleach makes sense. Now I understand it, thank you!
LOVED this video. This is great for gals that don't want all the "dark" in the balayage/ombre....and want a look that is more similar to traditional highlights combined with the balayage/ombre. I liked the tip of using the 20 vol on the back...and the 30 vol on the front.....AND using a non-swelling bleach. A real GEM of a tip was cutting the fingers off a GLOVE, and wearing it on your hand to use as a PADDLE!!! Such a great idea to help saturate those ends with product. THANKS FOR THIS UPLOAD!!!
You rock as an educator! Did my first time ever Balayage and it looked great----had to break red on darkest brown and then start--worth every minute (hour) I spent. Thank you, thank you.
that was a great video guys. umm idlove to see you do a combination of balayage and ombre together! Also i want to thank you soo much for doing what you are doing for free salon education. It is sooo important to cotinue education ,to further your services but it can be so expensive to try to go to all hands on classes all over. and for some people its not possible. So i cnt wait to continue watching cutting and coloring tecniques with you> Thank you soo much for taking the time to do these videos. CoreyC.
Very pretty. Did you have any issues going over her previously lightened hair? Any damage? Also, I attempted this on a fellow student with a cream lightened that swelled and I had a few spotty areas. I know you said to use one that does not swell but do you have any other recommendation? Thanks Brian.
Hi Brian, This video is wonderful !! You did a beautiful job on the girls hair....Could you tell me what bleach and volume peroxide you used on her hair?
This video is excellent... I can see how to apply..hear how to apply...simply done...and explained very well. Thank you What drape did you use...looks like terry clothe..?
Glad to hear my tip for backhand as a palette helped. Was a great technique I picked up and has made a huge difference in the efficiency of my Balayage applications. Love what you guys are doing here, have been planning to do a RUclips channel myself... I think I noticed you guys also are looking for contributing educators videos? I own a small salon in Freeport, Maine. I'd love to make some educational videos to contribute to your channel IF that is something you're interested in?
this was wonderful thank you! One question, what do you do to protect the client if they want to move around during processing time (i.e. go to the bathroom)? do you put a foil around the bottom of the hair with the most lightener?
Thank you so much for the video. I greatly appreciate your paying your knowledge forward. I do agree that music was a bit loud to hear you perfectly. One question on how and why you don't protect hair from bleeding onto other sections. obviously yours doesn't bleed. is that just simply because bleach doesn't swell?
I am new to this technique and seen it done in various ways the way that you do it is so much more simplified and what I'm used to the no cotton and plastic wrap but I recently took a class by loreal professional on balayage the basic and that's how they did is they also mentioned that it was important to have the plastic to keep the lightner from drying out or it won't lift proper? Help? I'm so confused on all the various ways if doing this one technique I want the most effective result! What can you recommend?
Thank you for such a great explanation of how to do this!! Especially the tip about the right bleach..I didn't even think about the swelling of the bleach lol thank you sooo much!! Your a great teacher!!
Big Big difference between how you've improved sinced you did this video and the one you did last year w/Sunlights and the balay wrap. This is beautiful, but you've improved a great deal.
How long was it between this highlighting and the last one? Your videos were really helpful; my daughter loves what I did but is anxious to go lighter, since this was our 1st time trying this. do you still use 20 in the back and 30 in the front? thanks!!!
Great tutorial! Im very excited to experiment with this look on some of my coworkers/clients for spring. Are you planning on making a retouch video for this look? I'm assuming you wouldn't do the "v" technique repeatedly to avoid breakage.. but I'm not share how you would retouch without making her too mono chromatic. Thanks in advance :)
This looks great. I have two questions tho. Where did you get those clips. I have one and I want not but cant find them!!! And also how so you keep the bleach from drying out. I struggle with that. The bleach dries our before I get the lift I want.
Hair color deposits color, while lightener lifts color. If you’ve got dark hair and you put a lighter color on it, you’re not going to be able to see the pigments. The balayage technique is essentially a more natural and low maintenance alternative to highlights, so bleach is going to be the most effective way to achieve this look, however, if you’re using quality products and either you or your stylist are well educated, with the integrity of the hair being priority, you can most definitely get this look with minimal damage.
Great video! like that there was no cussing or off subject chit chat and it was to the point.

Thank you, how would you follow up with a client as far as a root touch-up?
Thank you so much for the video. I greatly appreciate your paying your knowledge forward. I do agree that music was a bit loud to hear you perfectly. One question on how and why you don't protect hair from bleeding onto other sections. obviously yours doesn't bleed. is that just simply because bleach doesn't swell?

Sooo helpful!!!thanks!!
so pretty!
Beautiful! I want that!!!
Was going to ask about even processing time lol. At the 11:30 mark you mentioned the different developers. Didn't think about that, thanks a bunch!:)
This thought me a lot. Thank you for your help! I can't wait to try it on my self! and BTW, I heard you just fine. Keep up the good work!
I hope that you open a Beauty school, you and Matt will be an excellent Instructors, Love you both so much.
thank you sir!! :) will be working on a friend later this week
Would you do this technique on a darker level (4-5) or just stick to lighter levels?
beautiful! I love balayage.
Do you have any tips to avoid from the bleach drying out and not processing to the desired level?
I think that's the technique I’m going to use. It seems a lot more simple, and low maintenance. Thnx!
Thumbs up great technique TY :)
I am new to doing balyage , and am wondering what i would do if a client wanted grey coverage along with the highlights/lowlights that balyage gives.
if you had to tone this how would you go about it? if it was not quite the color they wanted?
Big Big difference between how you've improved sinced you did this video and the one you did last year w/Sunlights and the balay wrap. This is beautiful, but you've improved a great deal.
do you cover the hair with plastic wrap to keep from drying out?
Nice technique, did u use any toner? Why do I see brassy in some strand of her hair? Probably is the light.
Can you do a video about balayage'd hair for people with naturally curly hair?? Because im in love!
Does this work on black hair too? and did you use bleach? and how long do you leave it in before you wash it out?
The background music is a bit too loud!
Can you do the balayage technique a color other than blonde like a type of red if so will you post a demo thanks

How long was it between this highlighting and the last one? Your videos were really helpful; my daughter loves what I did but is anxious to go lighter, since this was our 1st time trying this. do you still use 20 in the back and 30 in the front? thanks!!!
this looks incredible!!
great tip about using your left wrist with glove.

Would you ever balayage the root area to wherever the previous highlighted hair starts to avoid over highlighting and damage them?
I have the same question. Wish he would have addressed the fact that he was highlighting over previously highlighted hair and how he avoided damage...
Just wondering where you got your blue rollabouts from?
This looks great. I have two questions tho. Where did you get those clips. I have one and I want not but cant find them!!! And also how so you keep the bleach from drying out. I struggle with that. The bleach dries our before I get the lift I want.
You can get all these products on our online shop www.shopfse.com
Thanks Brian! i love it.
do you think the Flash Lift of Redken would work for this technique? Thanks
Very nice!
I love it! would this work with dark hair and using color instead of bleach??
Maria V I wondered that too. or on med brown hsir can I use a light brown to dark blonde color?
Hair color deposits color, while lightener lifts color. If you’ve got dark hair and you put a lighter color on it, you’re not going to be able to see the pigments. The balayage technique is essentially a more natural and low maintenance alternative to highlights, so bleach is going to be the most effective way to achieve this look, however, if you’re using quality products and either you or your stylist are well educated, with the integrity of the hair being priority, you can most definitely get this look with minimal damage.
nice job
I'd like to know what price range you would charge for this?
Hi I have a customer with very dark base can u still use the same balayage technique ?
