I never commented on your video's but i want to say thank you for your video's, I have a degree in graphic design and somehow the last few years i didn't have a passion for it anymore i also couldn't see my self doing it for the rest of my life. I really wanted to do a job where i could be more active instead of sitting at a desk all the time. At that time i was already watching your video's and i found it very interesting, i tought by my self i always really loved music, shows and the technics behind it. Im still 21 so i changed my study to become a audio and stage engineer. I really wanted to leave a comment to say thank you for inspiring me to choose this job and keep making video's i like it!
Woohoo, proper new content from Chris! Keep up the nice work, your videos helped me and my band to prepare for a few self-organised shows together with other bands where we also took the double duty as sound engineers, and there are more to come, so I'm already looking forward to more content from you.
Nice. This all is so similiar like on our Club where I do FoH. Stagesize, Clubsize. Monitor-Setup, PA-Setup. Kind of same Bands from Metal, Dark, Black, Trash-Metal and sometimes Hardrock to Punk. Until last Week i used a X32 Rack, now I have a Wing Rack (great update). I'm dealing with the loud drums and Amps/Cabinets. At FoH I have around 100db and cymbals are so dominant and overrides the cabinets. Making everything louder than everything else ;-) is not a goal. And I often struggle mixing the Monitors loud enough for musicians but not that loud that they will overrun the PA. Next step would be a setup for the Bar, but I'm not shure if this will lead to a delay problem, The speakers there are running against the Main stage and not in line... Thank you for you view into your work. I like the videos and learned a lot.
Zelda + CHill FTW! 🙌 Thank you for sharing what FX you put on your stream. Sometimes I get the Mix just right but doesnt have the Power or Glue to make the Stream sound tighter (if that makes sense lol) - I will test what I learned!
@chrishammillaudio You made a remark in the last video that you'd like having mute groups on hand more rapidly. You can setup a midi controller with buttons on port #4, channel #4, for those CC's (values 0-127): #28 = M.Grp #1 #29 = M.Grp #2 #30 = M.Grp #3 #31 = M.Grp #4 #44 = M.Grp #5 #45 = M.Grp #6 #46 = M.Grp #7 #47 = M.Grp #8
8:06 Here's a tip for the stream and bar feeds! You can use two of your matrices as your Pa instead of your LR and treat your LR like a mix buss. Makes your stream and bar feeds unaffected by your eq moves on your LR that are specific to the pa and not the mix! Also, you can have your stream as a bus if you need to send stuff into that you don't need in the mix for foh in the room, but that's dependant!
Very nice video dude. Btw, how did you get a unit? Other question, for the music feed from the PC, why are you using 2 different channels for it? They are stereo, could you use only one? Or is it on purpose? Thanks
Just curious what subs and tops you are using. Are those bottoms bassboss dual 18s? Also how many are you using. The place i am looking at opening in thailand will be about the same size venue and thought id ask. Thanks !!!
totally understadable to not sound as good on a board you barelly know. I would try virtual soundcheck and give it a few hours perfecting the mix. usually that goes a long way.
The wave designer on the x32 for kick and snare is such a clutch way to shape the drum sound. Is it possible that because it's not the house kit it just... doesn't sound as good? Either a drum issue or tuning problem? The snare on the 4th band sounded much better than the 3rd so either you figured it out or the player just had better technique or a nicer drum. Sounded good either way.
It’s definitely not the drum kit. If you watch any of my mixdown meltdown videos, I have gotten really shitty drums sounding good and full in the mix. I’ve also mixed tons of different drum kits in the venue over the years. I just need to get used to the console more. Overtime it will improve.
I understand the local I/O problems with the full-size, but as someone who used the wing in both broadcast and FOH applications, most of our inputs were over aes50. In my opinion, it's better to save the money on the local inputs you can't move and spend it on a stage boxes you can move.
Loved the video. Have you thought about a sound isolation pad for your camera?(Or active gimbal). Love the effect though. Also have you seen the video on Rick Beato 2 "How the Pros Mix Live Music", I was skeptical about the EQ on my Master(I stream) but the difference was night and day.
Don’t need a sound pad for the camera since it’s not producing sound in my stream. Gimbal still has the same shakey issue because of low end literally hitting the camera.
@@chrishammillaudiovery cool. On PTZ and Static cameras the sub shake through the room(floor) causes the camera shake. Hence why I said using a sound absorber. Since it is a gimbal and it is front sub power, not through the floor, I can only think of one solution. Bigger motors heheh. I would love to hear what the gimbal company said if you sent them a video for support. I wonder if they could tune the motors to combat the shake. Bass traps for cameras now that would be hilarious. Keep up the Awesome.
My camera is a RX100 and I even tried using a Ronin S. Still shook. The stabilization in the camera is just not good. If I use my bigger pro cameras it’s far less noticeable

I was prioritizing the house sound over the stream. By the time Bullet Boys ended I had a healthy balance of house/stream. Drums were killing me the whole show. I can definitely hear a better sounding pre from the Wing vs the X32
@chrishammillaudio at close to the start of the introduction of the Wing. You turned up the main fader, and then it looked like you turned up the house speakers from 2 faders.
Because it renders the fader next to it completely useless and I'd rather have 2 functioning faders than have 2 channels be taken up with only one fader being actually used.
@@chrishammillaudio No it doesn't. It only uses one fader/channel for stereo leaving the one next to it free for the next instrument. The wing routing works completely different from the X32 in which you would eat up two faders because each channel is mono. Try it next time, go to routing, sources, select local 23, select stereo on the right and it will link both inputs together. Then go to channels, select channel 24 and select the linked source. It will put that on only channel 24 and leave 13-23 free for other instruments. I know it's hard coming from an X32 as well but you really need to forget everything you know about that ecosystem because apart from the brand and the stageboxes, the mixers are completely different.
