This has been among my favourite sets of videos to date. As soon as that "study" came out that was co-signed by Dr. Johnston (formerly of Dalhousie) I was blasted with messages from people saying stuff like "See? Nothing wrong with eating animals". I said right away that it would be a matter of days before those studies would be proven false and faulty. Dr. Barnard and his colleagues were swift to point out the problems, and Dr. Greger and NF have take time to summarize the truth. I am so grateful for this content. It's life-affirming.

The carnivores believe we were cavemen I believe in the creation account. I don't believe people were only eating meat thousands of years ago. I don't like eating plain hamburger and I could not afford steak every day. I tried this for several weeks one day I ate a pound of bacon and could not stop. The meat eaters push high cholesterol. My instincts told what I am eating this way is not healthy, they are wrong about fruit and vegetables calling them anti nutrients. I can't do Keto because that requires math. I can do calories and moderation. Keto also requires sugar substitutes and I think a lot of fat. I want to keep learning more and watch ALL of his videos.

    - Imagine thinking meat is harmful for you, when in reality is the best thing you can eat. Where the differences come in is a) who tends to eat meat b) what the meat comes with (seed oils, bread and other shit) and so on. Meat fundamentally is a synthesis of plant sources that also generate some extra compounds that can't be found in plants. To think then that makes it toxic/bad is crazy talk considering the immense benefits you find because of it's nutrient density and availability. This is obviously within the context of getting a good meat source as would be the context for any type of food. The amount of confounders and flawed studies not accounting for what was mentioned above (and no trying to reduce the bias within the study after the data is collected doesn't weed out the inherit bias in the data via bad study design).
    - What people need to realize is that animal and plant based diets can work, but processed food diets can't. Now that being said one diet is more optimal than the other and on average the meat based one will be better because of the nutrient density and availability (plus it's better for the environment within the context of a regenerative farming approach). Meat based approach will be optimal for most by far because that is what we adapted to over millions of years due to the caloric/nutritional density of it. That being said some will be able to get away with being more plant focused but going 100% plant based for a long period of time will probably be a negative. You will have some draw back in some area more than likely. I personally thing there is great value in rotating around a natural diet which is meat focused, and then supplemented in with little bit of fruit and rarely veggies.

@Luis MFQ All the plant foods that you've listed are things my gastroenterologist are telling me to eat for my Crohn's disease. Before I started eating plant based, my disease was very severe and I had to be hospitalized. I was in such a terrible state that I didn't need to do any prep for my emergency colonoscopy. After making the switch, my next colonoscopy came back completely normal. No signs of illness.

In the Book of Daniel, an ancient bible manuscript, he was eating just vegetable and did better. Forgot the reason for it but, it's in the first few chapters. The ancient people ate some animals but not a lot, I think on a special occasion they slaughtered an animal. The exodus account mention the Israelites missing "the cucumber, watermelon and the leeks" when they were led out of Egypt. Grains were grown and eating for over 6,000 years according to the bible account. Moses wrote Genesis which speaks of fruits given to eat and vegetables.

@@earthwisdomhelps yes, agricultural and pre-agricultural human consume some meat, human bodies are built more to fit the pre agricultural lifestyle, only because is hundreds of thousands of year versus 6,000 years. In today's food industry age, most people consume way too much meat and grain-based processed food.

We don't need animal protein nowadays. Who cares what our ancestors eat when we have way better food options know? And comparing meat eaters to vegans: a plant based diet is healthier.

@@CordeliaWagner who cares about our ancestor eats, the answer to that question is your body, your body is environmental and evolutionary result of your ancestral past. I would like to know what better food option we have than our ancestral food, does it provide all nutrients your body needs? Is it processed? Do you have to eat supplement if it doesn't naturally occur in plant-based food?

Frankly I don't think many meat eaters care about 10-20% risk reduction, I don't even personally see any point eating more plants to have that benefit, I would find the moral motivation of not eating other animals much larger factor. If we had the type of risk reduction that exists by not smoking for example it would be a different story but 20% means next to nothing compared with a diet that is not sustainable for most people, simply because eating only plants the rest of your life is about the same as eating only carboard boxes.

Lol, if anything, McDonald’s burgers are the closest I have ever eaten that tasted like cardboard. Meat itself is mostly tasteless or even tastes bad. Without salt and spices/sauces, people wouldn’t eat so much meat. You probably eat salads and fruits from time to time.. do they taste like cardboard to you? If you use the right spices and sauces, you can make even the boring plants taste good.

Years ago I looked up the risks of drinking, smoking and obesity. Drinking plus smoking has the same risk or did at the time of obesity on life expectancy, about 10 years below population average. I am not so young now and still drink and smoke but cutting back on the drinking and am a relatively moderate smoker (the hairs in my bronchial tracts still function, previously on regular cigarettes they didn't but with roll your own tobacco they do). So there's obviously different degrees but obesity is on average at least as bad as smoking, a bit overweight however there's little difference to normal weight.
