Fun Story: The solo played here is actually one of the first iterations before it was was finalized and mastered (basically what you hear on the record). When this album released in 2009, Apple released a deluxe version that was this… interactive album experience within iTunes. And in this iTunes deluxe “packaging”, a demo version of Heartbreak Warfare was offered, containing this version of the solo. So in a way, you could consider this to be the “original” solo prior to its final cut! Funny - As good as the final cut solo is, I always preferred this one. I can’t explain why… I think I just liked how opposite of the tonal spectrum this one was to the album cut: low and brooding before coming up to its lower “crying” end.
@@guardian67 and after the official album, in every live version I was watching, there is none that has this solo on 2:21, is it being Copyrighted or something?
John really is a pioneer of unique guitar sounds. The idea of bouncing on the whammy bar to create that distinct wave-like sound is genius and so mesmerizing
I'm Yngwie (Malmsteen) fan since 1983 and that echoed two notes harmonic John plays repeatedly is now much better to my ears than whole album Yngwie plays... what a funny truth.
I won concert tickets off the radio to see John Mayer in Birmingham, AL in 2010. I had several of his CDs and I told my friend you drive us to Birmingham and I’ll give you the other ticket. I was totally SHOCKED at what a FANTASTIC guitar player he is. I was literally speechless!!! He’s WONDERFUL live don’t ever miss a chance to see him live!!!!! ❤️🎶🥰💞
lucky!!! you caught him at a great time! 2008-2010 was a special time as a mayer fan imo. its when he became himself. took him a few good albums to do so but when he hit continuum and battle studies that was it. he found his niche and started to have alot of fun and be john mayer
I don't care if we don't sleep at all tonight lets get it right tired of walking in Wuthering Heights ... I dedicate heartbreak warfare 2 two tortured characters Heathcliff and Catherine they just in different bodies different names but their love remains the same love you John Mayer just as much now as I did then the curse of ( Heathcliff ) and ( Catherine ) waking up in torment this song heartbreak warfare suits them very well love song
I have been listening to music from the 60s - 90s but iI need different music to listen to. Can anyone recommend another artist or band that plays music similar to this?

This solo has something so special about. It isn’t overly intricate but the tone is so melancholic. I wish it was longer.
That solo is incredible
Grant Bilse agreed - i prefer it to the original

Go to the 2:29 or 2:30 mark and you’ll hear the demo version of the solo.
2:21 He pulls it off so matter-of-factly. #Skills

Best live performance if this song!!! Get in there John!
I could not agree more. I had to search through lots of videos to find this version.

@Ken Severo Oh, cool! I guess I just haven't heard it be used so prominently by another artist before. Thanks for the reply!
That solo just blew my mind... JM the GOAT thank god you came to this world !

John Mayer literally has roughly 40 amazing songs... this is one of them.
Probably way more
And 40 amazing versions of each one of them❤️🫶🏻
The good thing about John Mayer concerts is that it sounds exactly the same as the studio recorded ones.❤
Funny thing you say that. I prefer his live music as opposed to the studio ones.
@@SsoulBlade I thought this song's original MV is recorded during live session
I think you meant better :^)
If John Mayer was on a supermarket shelf he'd be in the organic and free-range section

Does anyone know in which venue was this version of heartbreak warfare played...
sounds like the rhythm section is rushing everso slightly. or is the recording speed up, in order to avoid copyright? 🤔
Fuckin kid is incredible.
What guitar pedal is he using at the beginning riff
It is called the AdrenaLinn III. It was recently discontinued.
@@s2seltaeb no one asked
@@ThePC3D actually, they did.
This is the closest to a rock song of all his songs
Close contender, but I think "Assasin" is the closest thing to a rock song in his catalogue, you should check it out if you haven't :)
