With Jerry & Priscilla as producers/executive producers I don't know why they didn't do their due diligence and check the content for inaccurate information. Those were glaring errors. You didn't see those kind of mistakes in the Reinventing Elvis documentary, which I think was much more informative. I'm glad it showed him in a positive light for newcomers and hopefully it will entice them to research more. I wish Netflix would now show the '68 Special in its entirety.
Oh, i didn’t realize that Jerry was a producer too. I agree, not only were there inaccuracies, but wildly incorrect information. Agreed- this production deserved a little better when informing new Elvis fans. And you stated, Reinventing Elvis was superior! I loved it- one of the best things about Elvis I’ve ever watched! 👍🏻
I’m an elvis fan and I’m staying that way too I love elviss music and flims that’s why I always live elvis I respect elvis and his family and friends too tcb
I watched it twice so far I loved it his guitar playing I love also but could do with out Pricilla two I do love the movies also no one sings old Macdonald had a farm like him he might not have been His favorite but he always no matter what gave everything he had done his best I for one am thankful for the movies yes I wish he had been given better scripts but oh he had over 1000. Concerts thanks
Thanks for sharing Mark. I agree completely that it's about time they stopped wheeling out the ex Mrs Presley to trot out the same old stories time and time again. We know from some of the claims she's made in recent times that her memory is shot, and she wasn't around all the time anyway. As far as I know, those interviews used for the Elvis voiceover come from the interviews conducted for Elvis On Tour
Absolutely agree Sean. Priscilla gives herself too much credit for everything...when she wasn't hardly present ...in the '68 comeback Elvis didn't want her there, as Binder said. She has built her own fantasy... she was there giving Elvis advice about his career, drawing the TCB logo and many other stuff, just to make herself important. I haven't seen the documentary, and Priscilla's presence is one of the reasons. We'll see if I change my mind. What I know for sure is that I will not subscribe to Netflix appositely for this documentary 😂 I prefer watching Elvis's real stuff, without those chatters behind.
Some of the early commentary was Elvis's interview that Jerry set up for Elvis on tour, as you said. It ended up being too deep a confessional about his career that it wasn't used. He was amazing and deserved the 70s era being shown too
Hi Mark, I watched the 'Return Of the King' Documentary last night. I really enjoyed it. I thought Elvis was treated with respect. I guess the most interesting aspect for me was that...(as an Elvis 'super fan'),.. I've seen the 68 Comback film maybe 100 times now over the years...BUT, last night, I got a fresh new vision of Elvis' brilliance and sheer artistry! For the FIRST TIME in years, I saw Elvis' hunger and 'killer instinct' from the 50's, present in his performance in the sit-down show, and in his leathers, and ...in his guitar playing!!! I had a vision of "the tigerman" again, on that stage!! 👊💥
Great review Mark 👏 I agree with most or all that you have said here ! I Completely agree on Priscilla...she did not need to be in this show at all ! But Priscilla was also one of the producers ! Unfortunately I'm not her greatest fan either in recent years 😕 All in all it's a great show .....and I really hope the general public get to watch and embrace Elvis in the incredible time period of his career... Cheers 🎶🎙🥂
I Take Elvis, If It’s In Good Taste Anyway I Can ! I Loved The Netflix Documentary , I Concentrated On The King ! ❤ The Sound And Colors Were Awesome ! Thanks For Your Review ! Elvis Lives On ! The Greatest Entertainer To Have Walked This Planet ! ❤Revolutionary Elvis
I really enjoyed it... apart from the fact that I felt they were being dismissive of his post-Comeback Special work. The 'we know what happened next' sort of makes it seem like it wasn't as good. I actually think he continued to make great music - with some duds - up until his death. But maybe I'm interpreting their comments incorrectly....
Stephen- no, I don’t think you interpreted that wrong at all. I thought the very same thing now that you mentioned it… Almost as if the last great thing he did was the 68 special. They couldn’t be more wrong. 👍🏻
Thank you for making me aware of this, I watched it because of your video. I thought it was very well made, I didn't think there was too much of Priscilla, but like all of the 'official' bios made by Elvis' Estate, it doesn't show anything negative about Elvis himself. Personally I think the info in this documentary was already covered in 'The Searcher', and if anybody asked me, I'd tell them to watch that instead. I'd love to see someone do an 'unauthorized' bio regarding 1973 to 1977. Not just to tell us about all the bad things going on with his health, drugs, etc, but to also show us some of the excellent performances during this period.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. If you want to see a fantastic documentary on the ‘68 Special, watch Reinventing Elvis. It’s streaming on Paramount Plus. The best one out there. It’s so well made! 👍🏻
Just like you said, I don't have anything specifically against Priscilla either, but at this point it has just become too much of her being involved in anything Elvis related. It's like we can't have anything about him where she is not a part of it. I understand she was a part of his life, but so was many other people, and Elvis 'story should not centered around anyone exclusively. Anyway, I haven't watched it yet but I will soon. I knew she was in this documentary but I didn't think she had a big part, and I have to say that this is diminishing by enthusiasm a little bit to know that though. But like most people say, this documentary is mostly for the newer fans to learn more about him, and to keep our boy (alive) , so to speak. And THAT is always a good thing.
Hey Mark I agree WAY too much of Priscilla in this one, I can do without her as well. In regards to the gold suit in Hawaii, the footage they showed was accurate, Elvis wore just the gold jacket, not the full suit, in 61’, and that’s what the footage showed and you’ll also notice Bill Black playing an electric bass not the standup bass from the 50’s. I didn’t care for the comments of “ we know how this ends etc” either, and finally on the # of concerts Elvis did afterwards, it’s actually way more, some sites say 636, others say 757, sometimes he did 3 shows a day in Vegas, TCB ⚡️take care
If you look at the footage in Hawaii, he has the long sideburns. He had gone to Hawaii in March 1961 getting ready to film the movie of blue Hawaii, and his sideburns were short. Elvis wore a gold lame jacket, black shirt, and black slacks when he performed at Honolulu Stadium in Hawaii on November 10, 1957. I had looked it up online because I wasn’t completely sure myself! 👍🏻
The live concert statistics was more like 1176 in total. And yes too much of the ex wife, so I wasn't surprised it only included people who suck up to her (Jerry). The Netflix show is for new fans as an introduction, it was adequate. But ended far too soon, his Vegas years were worth a mention as was Aloha. They need to stagger the footage because we will run out of footage. The seasoned fan would prefer Steve Binder's Reinventing Elvis. Note that Priscilla was named an executive producer. She's determined to be his fake widow and wants to go down in history as someone important. I loved Billy Corgan's passion, he was right. That wasn't Elvis on a good day, that was this m.....f..... every day! Bruce was annoying bless him, more of that would've been great from other remarkable artists. Long live the King ❤
I really enjoyed this documentary a 100 % I LOVED IT !! and when you hear Elvis speaking about his movies ? and that he was bored with it ? that is really Elvis Mark, i know this, because , this is seen and heard in other documentary´s about Elvis, and you can hear this is really Elvis talking and not an actor. Nice review Mark ! 👍
It's like the excellent Johnny Cash Biopic-Movie "Walk The Line" ended in 1968 in Folsom Prison. I think this Netflix Documentary is much more better as 'Elvis The Searcher"...my humble opinion only 😉 Btw: i have +600 Elvis live Concerts on CD...i wonder who is singing on '362' 😂 Thanks Mark for your Review
@markselvisforeveryonechann1153 i like "Elvis The Searcher" and watched it only once on DVD😉 Imo the new Netflix Documentary is much better😉 Elvis Vegas Seasons 1969-1976 was about 637 only and i'm not talking about the hundreds more ON TOUR CONCERTS 1970-1977...😏
Thank you for sharing. I say that Hawaii footage is the november 1957 one indeed, not 61's. And all the Elvis's voice overs are him as far as I know. I could hear some of his 56 'The truth about me', some of a 62 California interview (when he is talking about wanting a family in the future) and some parts of his 72 interview with the directors or crew of EOT (when talking about movies and his feelings) apart from the audio extract from the MSG press conference of course. I agree on Priscilla's part, not gonna lie it was most of the downside for me, and on inacuracies being displayed. I enjoyed quality of old footage though, Billy Corgan's passion and shared the O'Brien's thought of people having more empathy for him. Thanks again ⚡
It was okay, in my book. We are not the targetted audience. This is a doc for newbies not the hardcore fanbase. What we see is that Authentic Brands Group (who own the Elvis brand) rolling out a brand story to build on for the future. The historical misses sometimes are just shocking ignorance (something we also see in social media posts by EPE) and sometimes on purpose as building blocks for the brand story. Apart from the ignorance I do not have a problem with them crafting a story that builds his brand for the future.
I heard Priscilla is producer of this documentary, so i am not surprised that she's in it and that is why I didn't watch it yet. I'm not even sure if I want to see it or I will and just skipp the parts when she's talking
The come back was great but in my honest opinion elvis will always be at his very best in every way 50s and very early 60s vocally physically and as a movie star from 1955 to 1963 have a great day
I enjoyed, lots of mistakes, some great editing and some rare clips too. More positive than negative though and yes agree let’s concentrate on Elvis and less Priscilla
It’s really for the new fan or music fan that wants to see what Elvis’ career was about. Like the Beatles stuff they’ve been putting out. I enjoyed it.
Thanks for the review Mark. I haven't seen it 'cause I don't have Netflix. It seems like the usual documentary to me. Nothing new. The usual footages (which are the only real value), the usual stories by Beaulieu and Schilling and the usual narrative that's "We throw mud at the whole period in Hollywood and show the '68 as the rebirth ", without ever going further . At this point the documentary Reinventing Elvis was able to be a little more original and innovative. It could be interesting for the new fans but for the old ones it's better to put the real material on tv and have fun. Elvis is the only one I want to see. ❤
What we’re seeing since the movie in 2022 is Elvis being repackaged and resold to a new audience. Older fans have more/less read everything and seen everything by now. What we haven’t seen is a forensic analysis of the years 1970 to 1977, which is often glossed over in these docs.
i just dont know how many times i can watch the life story lol. everybody knows, he moves to memphis, records my happiness, goes to the army, does a bunch of movies that he dont like doin, i was hoping for more of the rise then the fall part i guess lol.
There was definitely more of the fall than the rise. I liked some of the footage. 👍🏻 Some I’ve never seen before. I just think some are trying to cash in.

I enjoyed it more than I expected. There were definitely some photos and visuals I had never seen before! 👍🏻

Yes, that was Elvis's voice. They were using sound bites from the interview He did during the Elvis on Tour Movie.
Thank you for the information! I was pretty sure it was him but I appreciate you clarifying! 👍🏻
And other sound bites from the 1950s and early 60s
Thank you for making me aware of this, I watched it because of your video. The video of the Hawaii concert was 1957 and the audio was of the 1961 show at Bloch Arena indoors for the USS AZ charity event.
It's probably a " necessity" to always get Priscilla involved in these documentaries/specials. It's really getting annoying.

I was a little disappointed, hoping for a little more in-depth and substance. Mostly for «newcomers», and Priscilla again…really…?
Agreed- I could have done without her input.
