Ohhh now i see where your mushroom inspiration came from. This guy got me into it too a few years back, i use my own technique to get sterile samples for growing mycelium. I made a cheap glove box, then i just dip the knife in alcohol without wiping it on anything, getting sterile stuff from inside the stem of course. The alcohol is normally dried off because it kills it i believe, but i found that it doesnt kill it completely. This way you risk less contaminants, of which i had o issues with. just drop it on some agar and youre good. There's sterile rye berry jars for sale online. I grew pink oyster mushrooms that way. Pleurotus djamor, probably spelling that wrong.
Been taking Lions Mane for one week. I discovered a benign brain tumor 4 years ago. It has caused Neuro degenerative and cognitive problems. This podcast quite literally saved my life. I started taking Lion's mane and wow. I feel like before my first seizure. At the 44 minute mark or so Paul talks about it. I may have beaten this horrible albatross on my brain. As I type I tear up. I'm a 30 year old man and I thought I was doomed forever to a life of unhappiness. Thank you for spreading your wisdom. As a JRE fan I'd love to talk about it sometime if given an invite with Paul even though I'm an average guy. Thank you to JRE for bringing these guests on. This one without any sort of exaggeration could have saved my life. I suffer from brain tumor, memory issues, GAD,PTSD (non combat),and epilepsy. All of these things are invisible and I suffer because I look pretty normal and even healthy for 30 years old. This man is a good man and I learned a lot from this podcast. Thank you Paul, Thank you Joe.
adamgm84 Still have some partial seizures but overall a healthy mix of Lion's Mane, GABA, L-tryptophan, cannabis, exercise 2 to 3x a week and a diet with proteins and veggies seems to be the key for me. Still have day to day issues but this allows me to manually manipulate my neurotransmitters. Hope this helps anyone that's at their bottom from a Neuro degenerative condition. It's possible to recover. I'm no doctor just a good student and willing guinea pig to myself.

I would just like to remind everyone that Paul also helped isolate a certain variety of oyster mushrooms that actually *eat waste petroleum/oil and metabolize them into harmless compounds.* When he says fungi can save the world, he's entirely serious. I only wish he was a household name. Him saving the bees would be a greater accomplishment than Edison's improved lightbulb. People could eat dinner by candlelight. People can starve to death with the lights on though.
I noticed that also. I think there are studies that when people are using a lot of effort in their thought process they blink less. Their pupils dilate larger as well when their brain is putting out the effort. However, it is not clear how much effort he is actually manufacturing because many of these points have been made by him over the years in various forums, etc.
@@silverhopeful it probably has more to do with the fact that during active thought/conversation you are rapidly moving your eyes which keeps them moist and that's why you have less need to blink.

Hey Kyle do you have an update on this experiment?
adamgm84 Still have some partial seizures but overall a healthy mix of Lion's Mane, GABA, L-tryptophan, cannabis, exercise 2 to 3x a week and a diet with proteins and veggies seems to be the key for me. Still have day to day issues but this allows me to manually manipulate my neurotransmitters. Hope this helps anyone that's at their bottom from a Neuro degenerative condition. It's possible to recover. I'm no doctor just a good student and willing guinea pig to myself.
add psilocybes
Billig Jones i use Host Defence drops and capsules. The immune support which has about 10 different mushroom varieties, Amazing and supports Paul's work !
Amazing! Thank you for sharing

This is the most interesting and detailed and informative podcast I have ever listened too.
Check out Ben Goetzel on JRE after this. Esp if you like tech/singularity/crypto.
Can we collectively just give Paul Stamets a hug? What an amazing person.

Nobody can, he has to protect himself
Absolutely fascinating!
@1:44:50 This conversation became tense but they handled it with such respect. Nice to see that there is a respectful way of refusing to answer a question and accepting Paul's wishes by Joe.
I noticed that too 😊👍it's kinda scary af tho what the government can so easily keep from us... Is there really free speech
@@markhornung7297 There never is true free speech, there has to be limits for the common good
@@markhornung7297there is no such thing as freedom! We’re all watched and limited !
What is the issue with that
@@prentfaiyaz If you dont see the problem..well sorry but you have to less knowledge. Knowledge can safe lifes and help humans to understand ourself and the universe. I would just like to remind everyone that Paul also helped isolate a certain variety of oyster mushrooms that actually *eat waste petroleum/oil and metabolize them into harmless compounds.*
When he says fungi can save the world, he's entirely serious. I only wish he was a household name. Him saving the bees would be a greater accomplishment than Edison's improved lightbulb. People could eat dinner by candlelight. People can starve to death with the lights on though.
Point to note, oyster mushrooms are delicious and plentiful here in the PNW.
this guys work should really be in every highschool in the world.
Well said
The reason you don't see him blink is because you are part of the same fungal network and he only blinks when you blink
I noticed that also. I think there are studies that when people are using a lot of effort in their thought process they blink less. Their pupils dilate larger as well when their brain is putting out the effort. However, it is not clear how much effort he is actually manufacturing because many of these points have been made by him over the years in various forums, etc.
That's funny.
@@silverhopeful Later in the broadcast, he starts blinking and even speaks with his eyes closed for a while. I think he's retrieving information.
@@silverhopeful it probably has more to do with the fact that during active thought/conversation you are rapidly moving your eyes which keeps them moist and that's why you have less need to blink.

Wowzer. Fantastic interview 👏 👌
This is why mainstream TV is dieing, people are sick and tired of dumbed down documentaries in favor of real experts you can learn from.
Not just documentaries everything is dumbed down on tv now, it’s for the people that just stare at a tv all day long.
Still be skeptical
Television is a product. It's a media meant to make money. Entertainment has always been second with traditional media.
If there were only as many videos on youtube as there are channels on tv, I'm sure they'd all be lowest common denominator crap too.
Aka "scripted reality".
I swear, this guy is a wizard. A real life, modern day wizard.
Pretty much, yeah. He even has a mushroom wizard hat.
Yeah like a mushroom wizard or smth like that. Pretty believable tbh.
Well if the magic of medieval times was based off of psychedelics and drugs, then he may very well be a modern wizard
I thought he's a lizard 😂
Joseph Izzo In that hat, this guy is fucken dumbledore
THAT WAS SOOOOO GOOOD!!!!!
I needed to watch this thrice to kinda understand it. I’m gunna watch it 3-4 more time to fully try to grasp it

Paul: “Mushrooms are conscious”

I'd say he is more like a Druid, Circle of Spores to be precise.
I feel like Joe Rogan really held his own with some damn good questions in this interview. Thanks for letting this guy talk his head off and just being on point for the podcast.

Sounds like someone has no idea about addiction or mushrooms. Grow up.

Jeff Maylor hahahaha slap yourself. what a closed minded moron hahaha. you are fucking laughable. p.s. your mom has your sandwich waiting upstairs young man
Jeff, you sound like the type of ignorant guy that really needs a mushroom trip. Please dont make moronic claims like that, psilocybin mushrooms are one of the safest substances one can ingest.
Paul's the type of dude who takes 20 grams of mushrooms, climbs a tree, and corrects his stutter.
HA xD
Holy fuck i just laughed out loud.
You left out a part...struck by lightning. He blames the loss of the stutter on shrooms but here this whole time he just simply got it zapped out of him. They actually used to use electroshock therapy to cure stuttering back in the day. XD
Paul cleans his stutter, slay the tree and rescue the mushrooms from the underworld.

When this episode aired i knew nothing about mushrooms except the common misconceptions. Two years later and I'm obsessed with them. I never thought this episode would be such a turning point in my interests.
same! i found a lion's mane mushroom within 2 days of seeing this episode, i forget before or after, had my mind blown by its alzheimer's benefits, and my mind blown a second time by finding it so serendipitously. I run a twitter profile for mushroom photos and IDs now lol. People act like it's hard to learn one mushroom from the next, but I didn't even see this episode when it aired, i watched it almost exactly a year ago.
Since you guys been learning about mushrooms what do you know about the Portobello shrom ? No one is talking about it on the comments..he said his life would be in danger, why?
