The little girl wants a world of utopia. She sees how magnificent it could be, and if the world would just understand, how much we all need this child of love. I cry everytime. Those strings ❤
Thank you for this, a great song. Love the image of this small girl on the beach seeing the world with such fresh eyes and so full of optimism. Apparently inspired by a holiday in Sardinia with his wife and hearing children playing on a beach. Apparently Paula McCartney loved this song. He was dropping his grandkids off at school and had to sit in the car until the song ended to find out who it was. When he heard that Guy Garvey said "my work here is done"
Thinking is about his daughter, is the realisation that you made another person, imho is about fatherhood, all the hope, the potential, the worrying, the doubt.
Such talented songwriters! And Guy's lyrics! They are continuing to produce amazing music. Check out the new album Flying Dream 1 due out soon, especially Six Words. This one is very popular live. Love the channel.
I love how Guy sings in his genuine accent, other artists please take note that you can still be cool without sounding like you grew up on Sunset Boulevard. I interpret the bottle as representing the lottery of life - spin the bottle and there's a child. Spin it again and there's only loneliness and pain.
"That was a really great interpretation of perhaps a different song." - what a great line there. This song is nice but not my favorite maybe I'll give it another shot but I dont remember much about it 10 minutes later sadly. I hope you do more elbow on the channel though, and although I now wonder if you know these, Lippy Kids or Lonliness of a tower Crane driver (bbc live version). Or any of the Elbowroom's videos on RUclips. So good. Ooh, or for a curveball, check out McGreggor. Another band, not too far away musically or geographically is Doves - There goes the fear is worth checking out. I know this was from a recent album, but as mentioned by yourselves, elbow have been around a while. I love that you are going through these bands that were so much of my childhood/youth (oasis, stone roses, blur, Arctic mokeys, elbow, etc) and im really enjoying the conversations you have around this stuff.
Hi lads, believe I have recommended this one to you but probably not the only one. Glad you liked it. Not sure if you have awareness of Jeff Buckley?? Definitely worth reacting to his live stuff. Give me a shout if you want any recommendations of his live stuff as I'm a massive fan of his.
This song makes me feel like I'm soaring with a flock of birds tumbling and gliding, moving away from and towards that bass. How very moving.

So on point! I can't even sing along "It's all gonna be magnificient, she says" because I start crying.
@tmt6691 it's time for women to run things. Perhaps we can make it magnificent! ❤
Ah mate have you heard "Starlings" live with the BBC orchestra? That's something else. They're from the North of England near me.
Guy Garvey is a poet.
The bottle is from ‘ spin the bottle’ a UK teen party game . U kiss who it lands on. “ this is where it all began, to light your mothers cigarette..”

I can see that. Thanks.
It's Guy (as in rhymes with sigh). And he's a top bloke as well.

I’ve never heard this song, but I knew, as soon as I listened to the lyrics, that it was about a child.
It's Guy Guys and they're from Bury in Greater Manchester North of England.
Nobody from Manchester pronounces Guy like a Frenchman.

I find your take on this song fascinating.

Seldom Seen Kid will always be my favorite album overall, but I do like a handful of songs from each album
The safest, blokiest music going.
Guy Garvey the singer has some great solo stuff, try Angela's eyes

Pleasant enough, but I kept waiting for it to take off. Not a big fan of this band personally, but a great video as always.
Fair enough!
How hard is it to understand that this is a man singing about his daughter? As old as I am, you guys are too old.
