Volo is easily my favorite character ever to exist in any type of media, so I'm sad we didn't get to see more of him.

It would be great if volo showed up in a main game as a side quest and he just followed us there

Image he appears in a legands unova type game because he left hisui and the new protagonist reminds him of his first defeat and he just doesnt hide it from the start imagine that possibility

I actually agree with your points. The problem with Volo is his goals are unclear. For me, even Cyrus has more depth when it comes in backstory, motivation, complexity of the character.
They are actually more wasted potential characters in mainline pokemon games compared to Volo. Gamefreak should push through Hyde and Jekyll concept with Sycamore and Lysandre. Anthea and Concordia are useless, even Colress is more a wasted potential than Volo. Ultra Recon Squad need more plot relevance.

5:32 or could have done an ancient garchomp form, to simultaneously reference Cynthia and show how different the two characters are.

What if we got another Legends game and Volo appeared as a minor antagonist?

@@THWAMPO It could be that you find him at one of the ruins and you need to stop him from using one of the legendaries to take over. And after you defeat him he’d get arrested

I think the problem with Volo is his motive, or more specifically, how it doesn't really make much sense outside of a Buddhist context. If I recall correctly, in Buddhaism, suffering and pain are seen as nessacery to achieve Nirvana, or in simplistic terms, break free from the endless cycle of reacartnation. If we view Volo's plan from this angle, it makes much more sense. Volo is cheating the system, so to speak and overthrowing Arceus is just the cherry on top. However, Buddhism is much less prominent in the USA, which is Pokemon's primary demographic in terms of geography, so it lacks vital context.

I pretty much agree with all of your points, especially in regards to his team being the same as Cynthia's. A lot of Cynthia's team represents the friendship and hard work it takes to acquire those Pokémon. If Volo represent willpower, he could've had Pokémon that take great effort to acquire. Spiritomb and Garchomp work, but then having something like Ursaluna or Basculegion which have absurd methods of evolution, or Porygon-Z as you can only capture those in Space-Time distortions.
I also think having the Giratina fight be in the format that the frenzied lords were would also make way more sense. The 6v8 is kinda cheap to me and Giratina is literally responsible for the frenzied Pokémon soo why not have you fight it in the same way? Especially because by that point, you're itching for it. It'd also mirror Arceus' bossfight pretty well too but is what it is.

Personally I feel like Volo is a lot of missed potential. There was so much going for him and that fight for me was hard but I feel like that the developer started running out of time to finish his character so didn't. Who knows really he was nice while I was playing tho.
And great video keep it up man 🐸👍

Idunno personally the villain twist was just badly executed. Never once did i feel like oh hes just eccentric. No he allways felt so off and kind of a creep.
the moment i first saw him i allready know he's gonna be some sort of villain like it was so obvious. Like he knew way too much in a world where the people are so scared of Pokemon that even regular pokemon are treated like mythical beasts because they don't really know a whole lot about what pokemon are and what they do .idunno i just don't feel the sentiment that he was a good villain that was done dirty, because i saw it comming hard maybe not his connection to giratina but i knew he wasn't to be trusted i knew he was gonna be the antagonist. And the game never treats him like the weird suspicious guy who everyone knows hes shady we just don't know how shady yet. No the game treats it like it wasn't obvious and that the oh i'm actually a badguy twist that his eventuell betrayal in the end was made out to be this incredibly bad unforseen situation
