This dude has single handedly taken me from mildly interested in bushcraft and anything like it from making me want to just straight up live in the woods forever, wouldn't be hard in Appalachia
Excellent build dude. Simple yet effective, love it 💜🤙🏽
Appreciate it!
Excellent one, Donnie !! I've been playing a lot with throwing sticks, and they're still a favorite of mine !!
@@ARAW-__- no doubt! Still my number make in the bush. I’m always making them. This straight log bow tie is one I mess with when I’ve spent a bit of time looking for the perfect bent piece!
There's a somewhat evolved pleasure of a good stick, you don't select it you just know it when you see it. 🤟
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks They're awesome ! I usually don't carve them, and just throw whatever seems throwable 😅
@@Jackielong-sighted7890 Man ! 100% !
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks What's that knife you're using ? 😮 DIY mod I'm guessing
Like a Boomarang but straight, they were deadly on Jackrabbits.
No doubt!
Basically a chefs knife handle to handle in shape made of wood. Epic and thanks Donny I'll carve one I think 3/4 spine with decent handle
Absolutely. Give it a shot! Thanks for watching!
First place my eyes went, couldn't help it, was at your feet! LOL! I'm like, yeah, he knows what poison ivy is. But I couldn't help it since I'm always looking to avoid it. Great video!
@@wirtification haha. No worries. We don’t get much of that plant from hell out here. Every once and awhile you can come across it, but not up in the elevation
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks oh, man, I am so jealous. It's a constant war against it here, lol.
Donnie I love watching but it’s been a while. Too busy, but I’m catching up. Thanks for teaching us 👍❤️🤙
My pleasure. Catch up as you can. No rush…sit back and enjoy the ride🤙
Great video Donny ! More throwing tools please. Nice job sharpening the blade. Most people do it wrong. Thanks again !
My absolute pleasure. I appreciate you watching. Thanks!
Muy bien Donny ! El ser humano tiene esa gran capacidad de crear cosas que le pueden ser de utilidad y para la subsistencia. Saludos cordiales desde la Península de Yucatán México.
I believe Mr. Larry Dean Olson said he got most of his small game with a throwing stick . I really like your machete and how you crafted your thrower on the quick with it ; it looks like it'll get the job done fast and easy .I have a 1940's USMC Legitimus Bolo Machete with much the same features as yours , but it's blade is longer . Thanks again Mr. Dust .
@@DanielBelliveau-y5x my pleasure. A rabbit stick is the way to go. It produces some food options. My machete is a Bolo machete with five inches cut off. I like a shorter bolo. I call it a BOMA.
Another fantastic teaching from you! I'm in the Everglades and I wouldn't trade my machetes for any other tool. I utilize throwing sticks for marsh rabbits and iguanas. With some practice, they are deadly and efficient!
Thanks Donny
My pleasure!
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks I just picked up your book today, it was in stock at the Hadley, MA Barnes & Noble. Can't wait to dig into it.
Throwing sticks are excellent for close and medium range! Nice throws brotha
Thanks bro. Appreciate you watching!
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks love your videos! take care bro
Short sweet and to the point
Appreciate it greatly!
Just received Wild Wisdom.
Panning thru it, I am really impressed by the illustrator.
Will be deep into the book by bedtime.
Thank you for all the efforts to wake us up to the basics.
Much respect and appreciation. Thanks so much?
I made one last year, it was very very accurate and a lot of fun to throw
@@perfectweather awesome. Pumped to hear it!

@@EgoPersequorErgoSum for those straight pieces of wood!!!
Glad I live in Indiana plenty of woods near me 👍 great video as always dude 😎

"My boomerang got stuck in a tree!"
*rips up another tree to get it down* 😂
Hahaha
Gandalf of the woods is back, good to see you man and thanks for another great video. I was going to leave a joke but i guess you've already heard it.
What happened to the man who tried to sell his boomerang?
It kept coming back. Okay I'm done now. 😂
Haha. Keep them coming. I like a good joke. Appreciate you watching! 🙏🏻

Outstanding sir well made thank you for sharing this with us six stars
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ive made a few variations of throw stick/rabbit stick over the uears and it always suprises people how hard these things can hit
@@shaynecarter-murray3127 blunt force trauma…it will get it done no doubt!!!
Hmm, a straight rabbit stick. Interesting...
По моему вам надо терапевту показать свой бумеранг и спросить что он думает надо ли улучшить его или и этот сайдёт👍

I know sometimes that you have to use what you find. But would a piece of green wood like oak or hickory be a little heavier to make a better impact on game?
A hard wood is best as it can take some abuse. It’s heavy to throw when green, but it can work no doubt.
You should make some boleadoras donny like the ones gauchos and natives from argentina would make that would be rad!
@@Zbsbnsjsjzjsj I can do that no issues!!!
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks awesome!!
The Maasi Rungu Throwing Stick and Rungu Ball headed Warclub.....
How about the NZ Maori Patu (wood) 🪵 or the Mere Patu (one made of stone 🪨, like greenfield stone, and Jade...)
Or the Wooden NZ Wahaika...
Unfortunately primitive man Throwing sticks did not survive the thousands of years like Stone and Bone tools. I made a few back in late 60’s early 70s. Up in the Klamath marsh country. Primitive Man used Bolo’s. They ground lava rock stones into small conical football shape. Wrapped 3 of them in animal hide with stout hide or sinew strings. Tossed them at shore birds & small game. I have a few bolo stones found in Modoc/Lake county. In the Movie Jeremiah Johnson’ the scene where His flat Head bride harvested the Quail with just a Rock-based on Reality!!! Good stuff. I subscribed
@@CuttingEdgetools appreciate it greatly. There have been one or two ivory throw sticks recovered that date to about 10,000 years. I like using them and making them. Appreciate you subscribing and your time. Much respect!
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks Thanks Donny. I have a couple ancient Deer antler percussion flakers that are somewhat fossilized. They were Great Basin finds 50 years back. Take care! Dwayne

Can you make a blowgun to shoot clay pellets? I'm interested in seeing how effective this clay pellets can be on birds.
Your vids are always informative & very interesting. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Likely a bit more practice for accuracy, but have you tried a sling & stone? & or bolas as a means to hunt?
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it greatly! Slings Ive used, bolas…I’ve made but never hunted with them.
I would like to see a video showing game be harvested with it no luck so far
I’m going to be honest…I’ve done it before in the past, it gets restricted and nobody watches it. Can’t figure out why, so all of it goes on Survival Mastery now.
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks I will have a go at it in my time zone we have plenty of Ash tree that should do Thank you

No problem 😊 iPhone and I use CapCut. 🤙
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks thank you!!!! 🙏🏻🔝🌱
I've seen a similar knife to your big one. But the name of the blade pattern escapes me.
@@GenStallion I made this one from a bolo machete.
Hi mate. How do make your bow strings? Do use sinew?
who makes those knives?
@@Thanksman331 I made the big one. Little one is from condor.
rabbit stick?
Correct.
I wish i could throw a stick but my joints are stiff and shot. Now id have to rely on a 22lr becsue i have no shoulders.

Sort of emphasizes the importance of a knife, huh?
@@ericthompson3982 in this case for sure. It don’t hurt to have one!
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks I mean, you could shape it with a stone, too, but dang if a knife isn't the single best survival tool.
And that's a tool you can make while you're around the campfire at night when you have nothing better to do. Kinda like cordage.
@@ericthompson3982 absolutely. It’s smart to make a hand held throwing tool for small game…
