"No one's going to watch this one."
It's me. I'm no one. I even own this one (and the sequel!) on Blu-ray.
I have it on VHS. Haven't watched it in like 25 years but I assume it still works
@@CharlieJ69 I also have both on VHS. I really enjoy them.
There's a sequel to this?? 😒
@@starryeye6511 Yes
More complicated!!!!
I own this on Blu Ray and the sequel as well.
One of my favorites, the fun premise, cool effects, and David Warner… such a great and fun film
Yes! I remember renting this when it came out on vhs at my local movie rental. How you described it sums up the movie completely.
Well, I guess I am one of the four people who watched it. lol
You're not alone!
Everybody is saying exactly in the whole talkbacks. so there must be a few of us!
We are everywhere this is a classic.
Shelly sure has a lot of alt accounts.
I'm one of them also.
Yes De Sade was a real person. He is the origin of the word sadism. He wrote several books and was imprisoned several times in his life. Came close ro being exicuted a couple times. A pretty interesting character. Psychologists have actually done entire studies on the guy trying to figure him out.
From what I've read, the real de Sade was more into humiliating his wife and playing with feces than actually causing people physical pain, which is how he's usually depicted.
@@lurkerrekrul he was just rebelling against the religious social norms around sex at the time. The pain thing was because of the books he wrote not his actual love life though he did have a number of mistresses.
Didn't Geoffery Rush play him in a movie?
@@w415800yes he did the movie is called Quills
@@w415800 probably. He had had numerous depictions in Media.
The makeup and effects were surprisingly good ....
This is the closest i think Mrs. Movies been to fighting sleep from fatigue/boredom. I love it!
... guess I'm "nobody" 🙃 as I have this on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray & Digital ... one of those cult movies that just gets better over the years
Me too, This is one of my favorites
that's why they have a movie channel cause they are not knowledgeable in them. Waxwork is a classic
The Mrs looks so done with this, lol.
She never seems happy.
@@Oldaccount77777 Wait until they watch When Evil Lurks.
@@Oldaccount77777Bill Burr’s type of woman lol..
She's not a horror fan. This movie is a love letter to horror icons of the past and I loved it.
I'd expect that reaction to Waxwork II, which I found pretty underwhelming (probably unpopular take to the fans). But the 1st Waxwork is an awesome low-key schlock classic with a really original story, inventive directing, detailed characterizations, and much better actors than it likely merited :)
It's like you know my hot list of 80s favorites! April Fool's Day and now Waxwork....maybe Chopping Mall will be next! 😆
Fingers crossed for Chopping Mall
Deborah Foreman is in both Waxwork and April Fools day
I love that I'm one of 4 people who has seen this movie tons of times since 1988.
we were 5!
Of all times Mrs. Movies didn't care about something, this may be the time she didn't care about something the most.
She didn't seem to care BEFORE the movie.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 come to find out she’s sick. Haha.
@@nickgjenkins Oh yea she seemed to feel bad and was very sleepy.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Being sick/tired has nothing to do with it. She's always a stick in the mud.
@@phe0385 But this time it was a bigger stick than usual lol She wanted it to end before the movie started
I wore out my vhs of this movie when I was younger. I love the camp and effects!
One of my favorite 80s movies with a really cool story and quirky details and a goofy sense of humor!
Also, Michelle Johnson never looked better than in this film.
The Marquis de Sade is the infamous French nobleman whose perverse sexual preferences and erotic writings gave rise to the term sadism. I really like your channel so please forgive the way this must sound, but I'm not sure how you could NOT have at least heard of him.
That's what I thought also... dopeople assume someone wasn't credited for sadism, masochism, BDSM?
these rubes ain't never heard of any of those prevert French noblemens. they got enuf goin' on with their own hill folk.
Cool, I love Wax Work. I love David Warner he's one of my favorite villain actors. I put him just under Christopher Lee.
If you ever get a chance, check out "Time after Time" from 1979 he plays Jack the ripper. It also stars Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells, and Mary Steenburgen. It's a fun little sci-fi/adventure crime.
was that 'im? the bloke what plays Saucy Jack? great flick!
Time Bandits.
Have they seen Tron yet he was great in that.
Whoever paid for Mrs Movies to watch this film deserves a refund, she checked out before the movie even started😂
That is the director Anthony Hickox at 34:01 in his cameo appearance as the English prince in the Marquis de Sade segment; with J. Kenneth Campbell (a familiar TV character actor) playing De Sade.
Even though I was born 98 This is my favorite horror film of all time and one of my fave 80s movies. I don't like remakes often, but hell I'd love to see a modern remake of this movie with today's tech and new sections they'd add for modern horror. I am even writing my own version of it. Maybe I'll release it someday as a fan film.
Not a munchkin, that's Michu Meszeros who worked with Ringling Bros for many years. The house is the Highins Verbeck Mansion, the same house used in Witchboard 1986
Witchboard's a good one, too.
@@jdnaz1288 oooooh, meowwwrrr, i'm feeling Tawny and i can't Kitaen it...
Michi Meszaros was in ALF as ALF and was in an episode of Dear John he was great actor I like him.
I think you underestimate how popular this movie is. This one was always one of my favorites. I always thought the premise was so cool!
You really know when Mrs.Movie doesn’t want to be here huh?!!😂
The gun the villain used at the end was a Calico pistol gussied up a little for the film. There were a lot of films that those showed up in in the 80s and 90s. Mainly sci-fi because of their unique look. Just a couple examples include Stone Cold, Total Recall, and I Come in Peace.
Don’t forget Spaceballs!
The SPAS-12 shotgun and the Pancor Jackhammer were also popular 1980s Future Guns
Cool watch the sequel waxwork 2 lost in time pics up where the first one leaves off
I somewhat prefer the sequel. It’s a lot funnier and quirkier, and it’s got Bruce Campbell in it, which is never a bad thing.
"And then the murders began..."
Choice anthology and outstanding SFX.
The Werewolf effects can be seen again if you check out the t v series werewolf....
It's always the quiet girl... 😁
8:58 "I've never even heard of a wax work?"
Look up Madame Toussad's of London (or Paris)
I don't care- I LOVE THIS MOVIE AND WAXWORK 2: LOST IN TIME! And i've been watching horror movies for 40 years!!❤❤
When I was a wee lad in the 80s and wary 90s this was a frequent rental that never got old.
omg, that's Michelle Johnson, she was in Blame it on Rio with Michael Caine. The plot is that of science fiction, but she's basically nude half the movie. That movie alone, might have gotten me through puberty....
What a babe! When I saw Waxwork, I didn't recognize her at first cause she had lost a lot of weight.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 perv
She was very hot in that film also was hot in the film was Demi Moore. Being 10 in 1984 watching them both was a great time.
@@ZavaXavier yea 10 and Blame it on Rio seemed like they were part of a lot of movies around that time of middle age men finding hot young women on vacation! lol
Can't believe the struggle u both made figuring out what a Waxworks was ffs 😂😂.
Still a Favorite of mine, surprised we haven't gotten a Remake yet!
I originally thought maybe house of wax was going to be a seque/remake was so disapointed it wasn't the same wax movie remake :>
Don't let Hollyweird hear you they probably do it and destroy it.
Michelle Johnson was a fox back in the day. Check her out in Blame it on Rio.
1:19 1 of 4, here! 👋🏾😄
Loved watching this movie growing-up. I can remember staying up late with my older brothers and cousins, watching this on cable. Brings back such good memories. 🖤
Poor guy has "man's ass" 😆But this movie is really for fans of monsters in general, for those who love the genre.
Exactly
The only channel where you can watch people react to movies they don't wanna see.
"Wow, what do you think about that?"
"Dunno. Don't care."
AWESOME!
Hey! Haven't seen this in so Iong! That's Patrick Macnee from The Avengers in the wheelchair.
Any plans for classics like the Bad Seed from the 50s or Leave Her to Heaven? Religious themed like The Believers? Or raunchy comedy like D.C. Cab or Dr. Detroit?
de Sade was a real person from the 18th century.
This and the sequel are classics and I used to always recommend them to customers at my video store way back when!
I actually liked "Waxworks."
Waxworks 2 is a direct sequel and very good too. Picks up right at the end of this.
Its good overall but the medieval part goes on too long
I love waxwork 2 but "very good" is a bit of a stretch 😂
When I was a teenager in the mid-nineties, this was one of my favorite movies to rent from blockbuster. But I can't imagine them continuing to do this. She just looks so unhappy. Reacting to movies or maybe she's sick, but I always thought she had a dry sense of humor but she seems to be less happy on each video that they're released. Maybe she just ready for romantic movies 😅
"Acting"
Muffy from 'April Fools':was dating the director of this movie during filming but broke up after. Why she didn't return for the sequel 'Lost In Time'
P.S. ya both recently watched 'Return Of Living Dead 2' and didn't mention cable guy
@@otisdriftwood1086 They got SAS.
@@ZavaXavier I'm not disagreeing
The word Sadism is derived from the Marquis de Sade.
This movie came on all the time when I was a kid. Still enjoy it now. Cheesy 80's classic in my eyes.
The professor comes on screen and "Little Tiny Mustache " just starts playing 😂 someone please make that!
Mrs. Movies seemed grumpy through this episode.
She doesn't normally come across as grumpy it was just this one.
Awesome movie, watched this many times as a kid
This was the first VHS I signed out for an evening after I started working at a big local video store in 89.
Despite its problems, this was a fun movie for me. There are a lot of horror references in the Waxwork. For example, the baby-thing from It's Alive and Audrey II from LIttle SHop of Horrors.
Yes, we have a Wax Museum in Michigan. I went there because they had a Michigan Dogman exhibit. (Shaking head) They made the dogman into a werewolf.
Not Mrs. Movies literally falling asleep at 16:12! 🤣🤣
Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992) 🙏🙏🙏
This just made the "house" movies spring to mind! Might be worth watching if you haven't already
That wife monster thing used to freak me the hell out as a kid in that house movie…god damn did i hate it
House used to freak me out too
I love House 1 and 2.
Kane Hodder(Jason 7-X) did stunts in this movie and also plays the Frankenstein monster holding the bride in his arms.
Kinda surprised you guys weren’t fans of this one because I really liked this one a lot. Good premise.
Admit the werewolf was interesting. Like a mouse/wolf combo.
It didn't look like a combo to me just a werewolf.
I love this movie. Cult classic.
Mr. Movies doing the heavy lifting in this one 😂
Background of the movie: Lincoln used to own his own waxwork back in the day and him, Sir Wilfrid, and Mark's grandfather collected all of the artifacts. Sir Wilfrid and Mark's grandfather were just collectors, but Lincoln actually believed in the stories and used his knowledge of the occult and making wax figures to make the displays real. He killed Mark's grandfather to get the artifacts of the monsters and the victims to put in the displays because he was evil.
"Isn't there a book series about that sort of thing?"
Quite a few. The novels of the Marquis de Sade, among them. Another novel of that era, Fanny Hill, included a scene with flaggelation. There is a whole subculture around a science fiction series called Gor that includes heavy sadomasochistic elements. Anne Rice even wrote a series called the "Sleeping Beauty Quartet" which is a very un-childsafe version of the fairytale.
I think MrMovies was thinking of Fifty Shades of Gray series.
I used to love this movie as a kid …. I’m so glad you’re watching it.
I'm not sure, but I think Mrs. Movies really liked this one! Great choice, Grandaddy Marcus! Also, you guys are crazy, that werewolf was awesome! Hopefully they watch Waxwork II next. It's got Bruce Campbell in it!
I love pavartti in this movie :>
Two funny stories when I first watched sliders I was thinking it was him, and then in an episode he gets mistaken for pavaratii :>
This was one of those VHS movies I always saw sitting on the shelf at a rental store as a kid in the 90's but never rented for whatever reason. I didn't see it until my 30's.
This was my favorite horror movie when I was 12yo 😂 I think I watched it everyday for 2 weeks straight, then once 10 years later then never again. But I always smile when I see the name
This film is a cult classic and lots of people's favorite movie growing up.
It may be a strange movie for you but In 1990 it obtained four nominations from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films of the United States, where the Saturn Award was disputed for "Best Costume Design" (Leonard Pollack), "Best Director" (Anthony Hickox), "Best Film of Horror" and "Best Makeup".
Just realised it's two movies that the guy in the wheel chair where that there was werewolves. This and the Howling.
David Warner is good in every movie he is in. There is an underrated movie he was in with Michael Caine, about pirates called "The Island." It came out in 1980, and was pretty good.
I am one of the four people who has seen this 😂
Very interesting pick. Not a movie usually reacted, too. Good job! This movie had some creepy sequences.
It's my party and I'll cry if I want to.
I saw it and it's sequel
This is one of my favorite movies
I thought everyone knew of the Marquis de Sade. Surely there have been movies and such made about him. As I think back, I am not sure where I first read/learned about him. Anyway, yes, he was real -- the term sadist comes from his name.
There was a film called "Quills" starring Jeffrey Rush.
Good choice.
This movie still going strong. People remember this classic...
I met Zach Galligan twice and Deborah Foreman once!
Lucky.
I loved this movie as a kid! It’s the classic horror movie homages.
RIP Anthony hickcox
haven't seen this movie since 88. I couldn't remember it at all.
Is that Muffy or Fluffy from April Fools?
This movie was on rolling repeat on Showtime growing up. I’ve seen this a billion times!
I loved watching this so much as a kid - it works better as a kid because you don't realize how a lot of it doesn't make any sense.
My favorite exhibit is the Invisible Man, who appears to somehow be inexplicably killing a woman with a gas station hose.
This is another one of those classic horror movies that came out in 1988.👍
The clap lol
I love how he could totally correct her, but never will ! Makes for great episodes 😂😂
The deadpan way you said ,can’t wait….😂😂😂😂😂
Cult classic! That means more than 4 people have seen it. Any stupid/smart person would know that. If you dont like it, fine but dont talk down about it because a lot of people love it. You dont have to watch it just like we dont have to watch you.
Of course, whenever they needed a quintessential Brit in a genre role in the 80s, they went to Patrick Macnee. After “The Avengers,” he could deliver the weird like few others could.
Movie of my childhood in the 90s :) I loved it. ❤
Miles O’ Keefe’s Dracula character design (I suspect) is the template for Castlevania animation’s Dracula.. I was 12 when this came out in ‘88, fun times!
OMG SOMEONE FINALLY REACTED TO MY FAVORITE MOVIE???!!! Watching this IMMEDIATELY!!
The books he was talking about was by john Norman and it's the Gor series of science fantasy novels. Yes, they are out there.
Please, watch House of Wax (2005), with the SCREAM QUEEN Elisha Cuthbert!
Cool ,its Dana Ashbrook who was in Return of the Living Dead 2 a couple of weeks ago
Return Of The Living Dead 2❤
Y’all there is a Madame Tussaud’s waxworks in the Oprah Mills mall in Nashville! I hope this movie leads to the film House of Wax (2005)
Probably saw this available to rent in the 90’s and chose not to thinking it was a bad impression from the original House of Wax (1953) with Vincent Price - come to find out this is much much worse - waiting til 2024 to see this was a good thing 😎
The reason we don't see much of the Phantom of the Opera is because it was a last-minute change. It was originally supposed to be Jason Vorhees, but they couldn't get the rights to use the character.
This is in my favorite top 10 horror movies
why?
@@chuckleezodiac24it may not be that great to others just like return of the living dead part 2 but I know what I like and that's my opinion
We have Madame tussauds in London,Wax works of famous people
I rented this several times as a youth in the 90s and just watched it last week for the first time in a couple decades. I was confused about these exhibits all being based on real people, especially the zombies and the wolf man. Would have made more sense if they said the exhibits were based on movies, like some of the characters pointed out.
I love this movie. I mean it’s got every horror movie and villain that you could think of but their license so they gotta make it wish brand
I remember getting this from the video store during my preteen days late 80s somewhere
Ayo at Flicking the Bean😂😂😂😂
Note that Patrick MacNee, who would be familiar with the term, at 32:50 refers to it as a "waxworks".
