List in the description!
I would love to hear your thoughts in a video or something on Grudem's doctrine of the Trinity. Grudem has a lot to offer to the church because of his overall faithfulness and accessibility but many have expressed sharp criticism over this doctrine of the Trinity on more nuanced and high order issues.
I’ve heard many solid teachers recommend it but always with a warning to read carefully. He has issues to watch out for.
Thank you Todd, I bought several of these on kindle and on unabridged audio to listen at work. What a blessing when I didn’t have time to read and being a slow reader it was such a treat. Listening to Pilgrims Progress over and over also The Confessions of Saint Augustine Wow! Thanks this list is helpful!
The Gospel of John never mentions repentance. It talks about believing in Christ.
you didn't mention THE ONE book responsible for more atheists turning to Christ than any other book barring the Bible itself
CS Lewis - Mere Christianity , I would suggest you read it yourself you obviously need to
Read many books, but live in the Bible.
~C.H. Spurgeon
I'm glad he said that. Sometimes it feels like read the Bible or read a good Christian book. Glad he said both.
@@joycegreer9391 remember it doesn't have to be a "Christian" book. The great classics are also a good choice.
🎯
Great inspo Todd , for me I believe reading is not just enough". Take the action! Put your newfound knowledge to use. I read for a long time but Action made my life change in no time ( generally and mostly financially)
That's my two cents on this
1 agree with 100%
Action makes it work, no matter how little start and see the results come by
I struggle to follow through, especially financially. I earn quite enough but hardly have a saving. Rent, bills, debt, expenses take it all away. It almost feels like I leave paycheck to paycheck
Live below your means, Adjust your lifestyle, be frugal in spending don't buy unnecessary stuff, Budget your spending and your debts, Save, Invest it's a better way to grow wealth, get a financial expert to help you.
Thanks
1 hear hiring a financial coach is quite expensive but I will have a look at it.
Thank you for this!
I’m the city librarian. I am going to add every one of these books into our library. To God be the glory!
We do already have Pilgrim’s Progress ;)
Excellent 🤩✝️

8. Systematic Theology (Wayne Grudem)
9. Gospel according to Jesus

11. Hell’s Best Kept Secret
12. Safely Home (Randy Alcorn)
13. Heaven (Randy Alcorn)
What the difference between “the bond age of the will” and “the freedom of the will”
Thank you!
@@maceanglin No problem!
@@paytonbell3767 one is written by Luther and one is written by Edwards
Thanks for this comment.
Almost anything written by Jonathan Edwards or John Owen. The Puritans get a bad reputation, but they thought and lived biblically.
The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom.
Me too!
Reading the bible is the way to go
Do you think there's something wrong with reading books outside of the Bible? I don't think anyone here is trying to elevate these other books above scripture, but to point them out as Biblically-based supplements
Read many books, but live in the Bible.
~C.H. Spurgeon
Amen but their are some Great reads that deepen and Challenge your walk
I read the Bible for seven years and understood very little of it. But then I read some great books which explained the Bible to me and now I understand the Bible a lot better. Books can be like the apostle who helped the Ethiopian to understand the Bible he was reading. :)
Spirituality books motivates and encourages you to read more the Bible!
The best book I’ve ever read apart from the Bible is Todd Friel’s ‘Jesus Unmasked’. It has sent me into the biggest Bible study I’ve ever done, with my daughter now starting to study the typology of Jesus. Thank you Todd.
Where is mere Christianity
"The Holiness of God" by R C Sproul had me trembling too, and yes it changed my life. I think a must have book/devotional is "Morning and Evening "by C H Spurgeon Revised and updated by Alistair Begg
"Morning and Evening" is one of the best devotionals, along with "In His Steps," by Sheldon.
Holiness of God was life changing for me. Morning and Evening is Beautiful. Have that as well. ❤️
I just ordered The Holiness of God this morning!
Definitely gonna try to pick up these books! Not the best at reading comprehension, but reading my Bible has made me love reading more.
Keep reading! Re-read 3 or 4 times if necessary. It will grow and develop your comprehension!
I did that with my first A.W. Pink read: Eternal Security
I couldn't think of 13 off the top of my head, but here is a good assortment of others.
1. "The Existence and Attributes of God," by Stephen Charnock
2. "If God is Good," by Randy Alcorn
3. "God The Trinity," by Malcolm Yarnell III
4. "Competent to Counsel," by Jay Adams

I second that
Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis
God’s Smuggler by Brother Andrew. Absolutely life-changing. A must read.
Yes. I read it in high school. It set a great tone for my life.
Recently read this with my senior in high school. Excellent testimony.
@@mtnbeyekr That’s wonderful!
George Muller's Autobiography
I'm only on the first chapter but I'm looking forward to completing it. Praise God!
Yes, it is awesome! Inspiring!
Author??
The Screwtape Letters CS Lewis
No joke - any extra insight a Christian can get on repentance is going to be a plus. Since it's the key used to access God's grace, it's literally our best weapon against temptation.
I totally agree!
I got my glutes kicked by Ravenhill's Why revival tarries."
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis is a good one for those who are new to Christianity or don't know what is it about.
MOST RICH PEOPLE STAY RICH BY SPENDING LIKE THE POOR AND INVESTING WITHOUT STOPPING THEN MOST POOR PEOPLE STAY POOR BY SPENDING LIKE THE RICH YET NOT INVESTING LIKE THE RICH BUT IMPRESSING THEM
I appreciate the list. I've never read completely through the Bible, and even with John Macarthur's study Bible (yay) to help, I still have so much to learn. My neighbor asked me once if I ever read anything besides the Bible. Had to say no until I added the Macarthur Study Bible to it, couldn't wait to tell her the good news that I had this Bible & that Bible to read. True story.
I would definitely recommend the Henry Morris Study Bible! I have it and I really think it's a fantastic resource!
I have the MacArthur study Bible as well, love it. I’m not a dispensational Christian like him but that takes nothing away from the scholarship in that bible. So much greatness in his study notes. 🙏
The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer is a wonderful book on the attributes of God.
Institutes of the Christian Religion if you want to know all of the basics of Christianity explained cleary, along with heresies/false doctrines refuted
Saw strange new world a little while ago in our church bookshop so I bought it based on your recommendation of The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self and I have to say it is a fascinating read. Certainly has changed the way I look at the current crazy town we live in. Highly recommended
I added several of these to my Christmas list, thanks for the suggestions. I think a great addition to this list would be The Knowledge of the Holy by Tozer
Love “Heaven” by Randy Alcorn! He also gives proceeds to further the message of the Kingdom.
1) Hell's Best Kept Secret by Ray Comfort
2) God Speaks - Finding Hope in the Midst of Hopelessness by Ray Comfort
3) Will God Heal Me by Ron Dunn
4) When People are Big and God is Small by Ed Welch
5) Triumphing Over Sinful Fear by John Flavell
6) The Mystery of Providence by John Flavell
7) Depression: Looking Up from the Stubborn Darkness by Ed Welch
8) The Great Sex Rescue: The Lies You've Been Taught and How to Recover What God Intended by Sheila Wray Gregoire (which outlines what the best-selling Christian books on sex have been teaching Christian women about having sex with their husbands, such as you have to have sex with him every 72 hours regardless of how you are feeling. It's quite daming)
9) Charismatic Chaos by John MacArthur
Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus
John Bunyons spiritual biography, Grace Abounding
Not following through with piano lessons when younger...
Regret.
Not seeing Elvis...
Yeah, not so much.
Edit: R.C. Sproul, Chosen by God. Excellent read.
I have a several that spring to mind: The Valley of Vision(it’s a book of puritan prayers), Tactics by Greg Koukl, It’s all about Jesus by Randy Alcorn, R.C Sproul’s children’s books The Lightlings, The Poison Cup, The King’s Map, and The Barber Who Wanted To Pray. Also The Knowledge Of The Holy by A.W Tozer. And of course Jesus Unmasked by Todd Friel.
My mistake on one of the book names guys. It’s called The Knight’s Map, not The King’s Map. There’s also another R.C Sproul book called The Priest With Dirty Clothes.
@@heatherlutz2102excellent books, read all those to my kids when they were little ❤️
Thru the Bible Commentaries by J Vernon McGee Five Volumes
The Bondage of the Will turned my thinking up-side-down.
“The God Who Is There” Francis A. Schaffer, “The Universe Next Door” James Sire, and “More Than A Carpenter” Josh McDowell
The Universe Next Door is a great one!
- Ethan from Wretched
None Greater by Matthew Barrett also Knowing God by JI Packer are must reads! And what about Attributes of God by A W Pink???
Today’s Gospel by Walter Chantry.
Hard to Believe by John MacArthur.
Famine in the Land by Steve Lawson
Ten Indictments Against the Modern Church by Paul Washer.
The Holy Bible by God is my personal favorite
I am reading the Gospel According to Jesus now. Two chapters in and wow
I’m a simple person. Two of my favorite books are short and easy reads but with profound concepts. The first is “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23” by Phillip Keller. He describes how our nature is very like a sheep and how dedicated the Good Shepherd is to His flock. The other is “A Tale of Three Kings” by Gene Edwards. He explains that sometimes the leader put over us by God is not admirable, kind or fair, but he is the one God chose and there is a reason for His choice. It’s a study of three kings, Saul, David and Absalom and how their flaws teach the people what God wants them to know. I read them both over 30 years ago. They very much hold up in today’s climate too.
"A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23" is probably the best book on Psalm 23. And it is easy reading! (My type of book!)
If you like sheep analogies, there is a youtube channel called Expedition Bible where an archeologist has done a sheep/shepherd video about Jesus. It's really good.
@@triumphantsoul9075 I actually watch this channel. Very interesting topics.
@@triumphantsoul9075 I just found the video you mentioned and it was lovely. We really are like sheep - needy, foolish, not too bright. And we truly need the constant care and direction of our Shepherd. I like the simple analogies the Lord gives us to understand His love and care because I really am a creature who can muster only one thought: follow the One who lovingly cares for me.
My uncle knew J. Phillip Keller in Penticton, BC. And Michael Ramsden has a video about sheep, very informative.
The Attributes of God (or the original published work on the attributes of God) “Gleanings From The Godhead” or “Practical Christianity” both by Arthur W. Pink, “The Almost Christian” by the puritan Matthew Mead, and “Against Satan’s Devices” by puritan Thomas Brooks. Love the Puritans!
Thank you for recommending Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. I got it because of this video. I'm about half way through and WOW, it is phenomenal! Very convicting but in the best of ways. Highly recommended read for "fiction"
list in description please. thx
Thank you for the book recommendation, Todd, I am especially intrigued by the book about heaven.
If you get a chance to read it, come back and let us know what you think!
- Ethan from Wretched
"Man's search for meaning "
Viktor Fankl
Get it.
Holiness - JC Ryle
Expository thoughts on the gospels - JC Ryle
Knowing God - JI Packer
George Mueller of Bristol - AT Pierson
Adventuring through the Bible - Ray Stedman (great summary overview of each book of the Bible)
Knowing God is a great read.
Hard to Believe by Jong MacArthur
1. The Bible (full read over 8 times) never stop reading it
2. Pilgrims Progress, I used to read it each year but found a good cartoon movie on youtube
3. Valley of Vision Pilgrim Prayers - Can't stress enough of this resource if you want to increase your prayer life.
4. Martin Luther's little book on prayer - also will increase your prayer life
5. Ray Comfort HBKS and TandF Conversions (sermons how I got soundly saved).
6. Thomas Watson - The Doctrine of Repentance
7. Everything written by Charles Spurgeon, Martin Luther, RC Sproul, John MacArthur
The animated Pilgrims Progress that depicts the Holy Spirit as a woman/goddess?
At this moment I'm reading "Battle for the American Mind by Pete Hegseth.
One of the first books that had an impact on me when I first became a Christian was "Mere Christianity by CS Lewis.
Enjoying Mere Christianity myself- very good read!
Pete Hegseth's book IS very good!
Had Mere Christianity on CD. What a great way to understand Lewis with the ability to skip back and listen again. 👍
The only book that has ever “changed a life” has been the Bible.
For everything else there’s Mastercard 😂
Great list! Couple I'd add:
Amazing Grace - Metaxas
Knowing God - J.I Packer
Finally someone mentions Knowing God. Probably the most important non-Bible I've ever read.
Scientific Facts in the Bible by Ray Comfort
Back when I went to a Christian college, when we entered one class the first thing the professor said to us, "No where in the Bible does it say we are to accept Jesus as savior." We all were thinking, "Ok, let's see you get out of this one, bucko!" Then he introduced us to "The Cost of Discipleship," by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who, by the way, was excecuted in a Nazi prison camp. That convinced me. By the way, Bonhoeffer calls it "Costly Grace." MacArthur's "The Gospel According to Jesus" sealed it for me. A very inspirational book. We do not accept Jesus as Savior, but as LORD. Todd mentions misperceptions people have of heaven. Some say they do not want to go to heaven and spend eternity playing a harp. Even if that was all we would do in heaven, it is better than being in the "other" place. Some people joke they want to go to hell because that's where their friends will be, and they can party for eternity. Remember, the Bible says hell is a place of darkness, so you will never see your friends. It is a place of eternal loneliness. Anold saying: "When you die you either go to the Choir Place of the Fire Place.
That last lines should say, "AN OLD saying....." Oops!
All of Grace - Spurgeon, Attributes of God - A.W. Pink, Plan of Salvation - Warfield
Is the international standard Bible encyclopedia one volume or 4. I see both online
@15:00 i work in the construction/homebuilding and building trades industry. AND LET ME TELL back during the great recession my job WAS SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!
"None of These Diseases" is a terrific book- highly recommend.
I would add one more b/c who doesn’t love donuts. My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers
I have, and read, None of These Diseases. Excellent book. The one book that gave me a different perspective on my walk with God was In His Steps my Charles M Sheldon.
Epic list, adding more to the to-do list lol. As a 25 year old dude i haven’t been able to read as many as I’d like so here are my top 5.
1.The Religious Affections by Edwards
2. The Death of Death by Owen
3. The Mortification of Sin by Owen
4. The Existence and Attributes of God by Charnock
5. The Suffering Savior by Krummacher
That "whopper" song made me have sudden PTSD 😂😂
My 13 books are, Genesis, proverbs, Matthew, mark, Luke, John, Acts, Hebrews, 1 John, romans, James, Peter, Revelation
Classic answer🏆‼️ Well done, Bible-Lover.
What are your 67-80th books?
@@JohnGodwin777 what?
You must be self righteous.
@@JohnGodwin777 since so many of the books are equal in importance to me i probably wouldn’t get that far
I don't get why they say why would Heaven have less than earth? But it will have less, there probably won't be r rated movies in it, because they feature sins being portrayed and there won't be sex so there will be less but the less will be soooo much better
I know, right? It sounds as if earth is so grand why wouldn't heaven be just like it, as if earth is the standard that heaven must live up too.
Don't hear what he's not saying. It will have more/better versions of the good things God has given us here.
Love this content
Todd, thank you so very much for mentioning NONE OF THESE DISEASES! It is transformative! If only everyone would read it and live it what a different planet we would have!
The Attributes of God by AW Pink and The Knowledge of the Holy by AW Tozer have been a tremendous blessing in my life. I highly recommend both.
The first one is to go deeper into God's heart and the second one is more like a devotional, but I am really thankful for what God did and continue doing thru these 2 men.
Really wished I enjoyed pilgrim's progress. It just really wasn't for me. Maybe I needed to read an updated version though.
@legomegaman101
You would enjoy the English DVD version to watch.
Definite Atonement by Gary D. Long
Revelation 20 and the Millennial Debate by Matthew Waymeyer
Dr. Charles Solomon's Handbook to Happiness has been life changing for me! I am finally living, enjoying the joy and peace promised by God.
No no no no no nooooooo please not "The Gospel According to Jesus".......... You've GOT to read "Christ the Lord" by Michael Horton, which is a rebuttal to that incredibly confusing book by MacArthur.
Holiness by JC Ryle
The original, all 22(?) Chapters. Better yet, the one with the praying hands on the cover.
I read this every other year about. Mr Ryle covers so much from so many angles that always leads back to the topic at hand. There is no way of not being convicted and humbled .
Yup👍
"Why Revival Tarries" by Leonard Ravenhill
Jesus unmasked is on my list if ever! very grateful for you todd for that book!
I was so glad to see these books because I have three of them on my shelf. The Randy Alcorn book was given me about a year and a half ago when I learned my wife was terminally ill with cancer as well as Heart and kidney failure.
You asked if we would like to add any to that list that you thought might be useful. I encountered one recently, the title is: “The Book That Made Your World: “How the Bible Created the Soul of Western Civilization.” The author is Vishal Mangalwadi. He was born and raised in India in a Hindu home. He studied philosophy in secular universities and Hindu ashrams, but makes a solid case for the Christian faith. I highly recommend it.
GREAT list! Thanks! Solid work here.
The Attributes of God by A.W. Pink👍
A new book coming out this fall called "Pray Before Reading", is a must read for anyone who has ever wondered, "what in the world is going on in the book of Revelation"? "What does 666 mean and should I be concerned"? "How do I know if I am decieved"? "What's the difference between religion and Christianity, "we"re all on the same path, right"? How can I make sure I'm not deceived, get saved, and have eternal security of my salvation"? What's the meaning and purpose of life"?
Yes thats right, it answer's all of these and more, from a Biblical perspective, with clarity, and consistency with the Bible! It's a life changing read because it gives clarity to some confusing Biblical topics by using the Bible to interpret itself. Look for it this fall from Lucid Books Publishing by Ryan Ivesdal.
If I could add “Knowing God” by JI Packer.
I would've added John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion, and said something like, it's not my problem if you know about the love that God has for you in salvation but at the very least it will be good to learn about. If you want a better understanding on prayer, the love of God or even just the doctrine of election Calvin is a must read and hey after you read him you still don't like him at the very least you tried to understand him. But a study on the attributes of God but A.W tozer is a good choice.
Curious. Are you reformed? I noticed you choose some books by reformed writers. Also Luther. Didn’t he have people killed? Legitimately, asking. Not trying to be a jerk.
The Serpent of Paradise by Erwin W. Luther
Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas
Read these two...amazing
The ONLY BOOK that TRUMPS…
It is the Holy Bible!
The best-selling book of all time is the Christian Bible. It is impossible to know exactly how many copies have been printed in the roughly 1500 years since its contents were standardized, but research conducted by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 2021 suggests that the total number probably lies between 5 and 7 billion copies.
Before the advent of the printing press, the number of Bibles in the world was very small. Even though it was the most common book in the Christian world, the enormous outlay of time and money required to reproduce such a large book by hand meant that complete editions were extremely rare and valuable.
This began to change with the development of printing technology in the mid-1400s. In the 50 years that followed the Gutenberg Bible in 1454, it has been estimated that European printers produced 15 million books, the majority of which were Bibles. As technology improved and literacy rates increased, so to did the rate or Bible production. By 1815, the total number of Bibles printed numbered around 1.3 billion.
The Word of God is life changing and transforming! It is God-breathed and God is the Author and Finisher of our Faith.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Hebrews 4:12, KJV: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
John 14:6
King James Version
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bid'st me come to Thee
Oh, Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt
Fighting and fears within without
Oh, Lamb of God, I come, I come
Ooh, just as I am, ooh, I come
Ooh, just as I am, oh Lamb of God, I come.
Just as I am, Thou wilt receive
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve
Because Thy promise I believe
Oh, Lamb of God, I come, I come
Ooh, just as I am, ooh, I come
Ooh, just as I am, oh Lamb of God, I come
Oh lamb of God, I come.
I cut my teeth on Francis A. Shaeffer in the 1970's and '80s, but somehow missed this title until earlier this year. Death in the City is a masterful and inspiring work on declaring the gospel.

Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God. JI Packer
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, Awake and Alive Truth by John L. Cooper.
My favorite book is "The Peacemaker" by Ken Sande.
1) Decision Making and the Will of God: A Biblical Alternative to the Traditional View - Gary Friesen
2) God Doesn’t Whisper - Jim Osman
Ray Comfort is a gift from the Lord to His church!
I agree!
Pilgrims' Progress is probably one of the more favored reads I've had in recent years.
Any of C.S. Lewis' writings on Christianity and the Faith, including his most famed book "Mere Christianity".
There's a potential treasure trove of theological information and knowledge to be reaped by any Believer, all they have to do is simply seek, and they shall find.
Audible has really helped me. I drive too much to read. Some books i recommend
The case for christ
The case for a creator
Seeking allah, finding jesus
No God but one, Allah or Jesus
Mere christianity
I dont have enough faith to be an atheist
Is God A Moral Monster
Is God a vindictive bully
All are great apologetics and they all have audiobooks on audible😊
Lordship Salvation isn’t even Reformed theology. Next.
"Confessions" Augustine and surely at least one work by C.S. Lewis and Martyn Lloyd Jones.
