I also saw this last night. I cannot remember the last time I’ve had such a reaction to a film. It was brutal. It is the best film I have seen in recent memory and I don’t think I’ll ever watch it again. The relationship btwn Dunst and Spaeny and what it built to punched me in the gut. I cannot stop thinking about this.
That evolution -- of both characters and their relationship with each other -- felt so thorough and natural in just a short period of time. Glad you saw it too, Jack.
One part of me fears these kinds of movies (like Purge) fueling the fire towards making reality in a never more fragile and divisive time and on the other hand waking up the people (or sheeple) to the fact this could actually happen. I’ll look forward to your guys full review!
Stop being a little b
Sheeple?
Thanks for the quick thoughts Christy. Seeing it on Friday in IMAX. I’m intrigued and excited.
Great, you'll have to report back!
Love your reviews, Christy! My husband and I think of you as our trusted voice
An honor! Thank you both for being here.
I had a small role in this one! Just hoping I made the cut and nice review!!
I will see this movie soon. You know how to choose good roles. I do not watch much.
@@TrueBagPipeRock The way I got the role is bizarre!!! I’ll drop a story after it mass releases!!! I couldn’t do SXSW nor the early screening bc I’m filming but I have tickets for the 12th for an IMAX screening here in ATL. Mann I just hope I made the cut l.
can't wait to see it. welcome back Christy
Thank you!
It builds slowly. The dynamic between the four main characters is very good. They are very different. Some of them get a buzz from being in the middle of a gun battle and that's captured really well. There are two great sequences. The scenes with Jesse Plemons are fantastic - you don't know what will happen. And the gun battle at the end is riveting. Kirsten Dunst's reaction to what's going on really gives it a whole other level that I have never felt in that type of action sequence.
Can't wait! Thanks Christy!
Excited to see it sometime next week when i don't have to work!
Moura is so underrated
He's great in this.
I had not seen him in anything before, man, he is magnetic.
Have booked for Thursday, getting in uk then, looking forward
You have convinced me to see this one. Thanks!
Saw Helen Lewis and Andy Ngo in the credits and will wait and see about watching this.
Looking forward to watching this!
Appreciate these reactions. Loved your Dune Part 2
Thank you!
Just booked my tickets for this weekend.
Got my Partner into Garland through Men so it will be interesting to see what we both make of this.
I think my favourites of his are Annihilation and Ex_Machina but I really liked Men and got a lot out of Devs too.
Expectations are high - perhaps a bit too high.😉
So glad it's been released here in the UK simultaneously. I was going to watch Dune 2 tomorrow but ended up booking tickets to go see Civil War instead as logistics worked out better that way.
So excited for this one. Do you think the film would be harder to access or enjoy for non-americans? Or is it more of a univeral thing?
It is very specific to our country but anyone can watch it and feel immersed, it's so well-made.
Looks like a must-see. Makes me sad to hear that Alex Garland is retiring from filmmaking
Hi Christy! I'm Mireia from Spain and I love your channel. I studied TV and cinema and worked several years as a TV producer. I eventually quit cause it's a very competitive job and I was mentally struggling. Now I have a totally different job, but I recently started my own film reviews channel. I'm not planning to make a living out of it. But I'd love to go to some film festivals every now and then. Any advice on how to have access even if I don't work for any media outlet?
Thanks. Huge fan.❤😊
We have tickets for Thursday night.
Great, hope you enjoy it!
I just saw this movie as well. I enjoyed it, but find the lack of explanation for how the conflict came into place.
It was very brutal!
O MEN I am still waiting the FIRST review. I mean it is a major movie showing
Muito animado para ver esse.
Better than Dune part two
Mmm no.
My most anticipated movie after Dune: Part 2! Thank for for sharing.
I think we were at the same screening. Nice!
Hey Jason! The AMC Century City with the assigned seat confusion?
@@BreakfastAllDay Ahh, no. I was at the Chinese Theater but I did see a lot of critics there.
It's sort of weird but The Planet of the Apes series, World War Z, War of the Worlds, Red Dawn, etc., are about collapse in America as well though of course much less realistic than this film appears to be. Looking forward to your review.
If a horror movie is supposed to scare the s**t out of you, then this is the scariest horror movie I’ve ever seen! The thing is it’s not it could happen in America, it IS happening in America. This movie scared the living lights out of me!!!
Hey loves. Yall gonna play catchup with first omen?
Maybe! Was it good?
@@BreakfastAllDayIt was actually very good and was a huge surprise
@@BreakfastAllDay Yes!!!!! It was insane. loved it
It’s gonna divide moviegoers like the last garland movies
Looking forward to seeing it
It may sound strange but I'm a little leary of seeing this film. It seems like it hits very close to home with our current sociological and political situation. I'm already more immersed every day in that than I want to be! I'm actually a little scared of this movie! Weird, huh? And I love Alex Garland so I really have to think about this. (I'll probably go! hahaha!)
It's stressful, that's for sure. But an Alex Garland film is always worth seeing. Let us know if you go, Larry!
@@BreakfastAllDay I got my A-List reservation. That was a short lived internal debate!! lol
Ohhhh thanks Christy, SOOOOO excited for this one!!! Coming out April 17 here!
Great, enjoy Bev!
Danggg…sounds extraordinarily interesting and yet I’m almost scared to see it. This world he created is probably really to close for comfort to the real world, for me. I just don’t knowing if I’m ready.😟💛
I loved Ex_Machina. His other movies, not that much. But i do want to see this one.
Yes please do!
Soundtrack is spot on,enstranged
Was excited to see this until I saw Helen Lewis and Andy Ngo in the credits.
Going this week! Can’t wait
Have you or alonzo seen the new radu jube film? It’s post-meta-modern cinema, godard rolling in his grave for plagiarism of his style. Best movie this year, best political commentary ever, transcendental satire, laughed to death and heres my epitaph: Do not expect too much from the end of the world.
Have not, sorry.
Hope Captain America kicks ass
Verrrrry excited.
It was incredible…
Looking forward to the film. It's taken me this long to realize who Christy has always reminded of: British actress Lisa Faulkner. They could be sisters.
That's a new one!
Literally thanks right wing journalist Andy Ngo in the credits lmfao
My favorites of his are Never Let Me Go and Sunshine probably, though he didn't direct those. Ex Machina came out the same year as Transcendence and Transcendence kind of makes Ex Machina look juvenile in its exploration of themes related to AI. Unfortunately it was panned and bombed and the director hasn't directed another film since, I think. Never Let Me go was an adaptation of a Kazuo Ishiguro novel so I guess that's why it felt more sophisticated than his other works.
Ah right, Wally Pfister, who was Nolan's DP for a long time. That's been his only feature.
Yeah. Thanks for the reply. I guess because I am in AI, I found Ex Machina to mostly ask questions discussed in an introductory course whereas Transcendence asked more profound questions and was a bit more subtle.
If you need a guy to go to the movies with. Just saying.
I'm not sure you've just gotten out of seeing civil war. But after tonight's eclipse, I see a glimmer of hope that you, in fact, might not.
I’ve reread this like ten times trying to figure out what you’re saying but I still have no clue
@@charismacaster2429 Here's what I meant : At least from an outside perspective, the United States looks like it's been flirting with the idea of a looming civil war for quite some time now. But somehow, the celestial events that took place yesterday (the total eclipse of the heartland) seems to have cast some kind of magical healing spell on your nation. And I hope it sticks.
Ok your first comment makes sense now lol.
@@tlovehater You're welcome.
If it refers to January 6 how is not political? I believe you, but that part seems strange if it is supposed to be fictional.
Where does she say the film refers to Jan 6. She said it had Jan 6 echos for her.
There's violence and fighting in the capital, which is reminiscent of Jan. 6, but the film doesn't refer to that day specifically.
@@patrickm6012 a reference would be the same as an allusion. The film presents something that reminds the viewer of a recent event. That is all I meant. For some viewers, it could be harder to separate this from reality. I have not seen the film, but I am just trying to verify that it does not contain a political agenda. Most reviews state that it does not, but that comment raised a red flag for me initially.
Imma see it but very concerned. Looks like a basic road film
It is not.
I’ll let you know
Basic road movie with war porn. Well see
More proof that your reviews are an absolute joke. You and Alonzo have zero taste in movies.
Alex Garland sucks. All his movies thus far have sucked.
You sound dumb.
Nah
Ex Machina and Annihilation sucking is wild take
Disagree!
I love your tongue moving up and down
This looked AMAZING! Also, ima sucker for Jesse Plemmonds (sp?) So i'll see anything he's in. Especially as a quietly threatening weirdo.
He is very much that here.
@@BreakfastAllDay ooooh, baby.... i can't wait!!!!
