As far as ideas for possible improvements, you might consider adding a couple of "fences" to align the book to the stamp. Could be as simple as a couple of small blocks of wood on a piece of plywood and having a third block of wood attached to the back of the plywood which would act as a hanger for the vice. Just a thought if you are planning to make multiple imprints. Regardless, cool work as always.
Nice! Would probably work with leather too although may need to wet the leather first. Always nice to have personalised things & as gifts. Thanks for sharing!
Very timely. I was just about to start making a leather sheath for my multi-tool and I wanted to add a simple logo to it. I had a plan, but this will work much better. Thanks for the idea, Sean.
How to spot a Canadain :) 2:48 well a Canadain from Ontario. Nice embossing tip. I would like to make a note but don't have a 3d printer. I don't see why this wouldn't work by carving out a logo on some hardwood.
How can I order some of these? Especially because I don’t have a 3D printer, unless you think for a complete newbie I could buy the printer linked and make this? What software would you say may be is needed for a beginner to use to make this? (I mean beginner, I was past grad school when all of the photoshop and programming, design softwares became affordable but also a full line of work that could be concentrated on in school. I didn’t take a single class except for business basics, accounting and statistical types for business, not digital design marketing or creations sadly. What you have linked below the video or something else? I would really love to make these for all of my family, several friends and all my networking friends, groups and clients I have past and future it would be great. Thank you very much and I greatly appreciate the advice and help, especially being a beginner at 35 better late than never I suppose.
I would start by seeing if you're able to create the 3D files that you want to 3D print. A lot of the software is free. Try to use Fusion360 or tinkerCAD and see what you can come up with. 3D printers are becoming very inexpensive, but if you want something that works right out of the box you'll have to pay a bit more. I'm happy with the Ender3 and I think its a great beginner 3D printer but there will be a bit of playing around to get perfect prints.
May be easier to use an easy to remove tape, like painters tape, and tape the print to the book instead of gluing it to the wood. Then it's perfectly aligned before it even goes to the vice. Cool video though!
Very clever. I'm actually going to make a few of these as gifts. I wonder how permanent the process is though. Have you tried anything like this before?
What if i want to do a larger image like to cover the whole front of the book would the vice work for that seeing that it seems to be only pressing a small space.
You could use woodworking clamps instead of a vise. Then you can use as many as you want or need. Also using clamps allows easier placement of the design.
This is technically debossing not embossing, but really cool man!! The 3d print is embossed text tho.
"You're not gonna damage anything" ...then clearly proceeds to damage the cover.
The corner? You can thank Amazon for that, it came damaged, check out 3:10.
Lmao
Great simple idea and cool video!
Funny thing, I actually talked to a friend about marking leather with 3D printed parts today :D
You love 3D printers, don't you?

Yeah it definitely would. I think there are some instructables that have done this with leather.
Someone is having fun with new printer!
I really am. There is just something about it that is so much better than the A8. Wish I upgraded long ago.
Thanks for the tutorial. It's was helpful to me.

In Slic3r you can choose from a few top/bottom patterns to give the font a nice look.
How high did you make each of the letters with respect to the base?
Jeremy S Cook 2mm for both base and letters
@@SeanHodginsThx!
Please change the video title to "Debossed".

Awesome Idea! Definitely will result in a better aligned imprint.
Awesome! You have so many great projects going on and not always the same stuff over and over. Keep it up.
With some glue and a foil sheet ispossible to give a metallic finish and make it even cooler.
Do you have a link to download your 3D file anywhere?
conviene hacerle el alisado arriba como tiene el cura, asi no hace rayas o lijarlo, muy bueno el video
What do you use to clean the Ender 3 bed? Mine only looked that clean the 1st day.
Awesome. Had the same idea, but hadn't tried it yet.

Hey Jer! How did they turn out?
@@GeeksmithingTook a bit of experimentation to get the process worked out, but results were eventually quite good!
props
Neat idea, thank you for sharing
Good idea.
Good one bro...

Just have to try and see. It will require a lot more force, like a book press or something similar.
