I love Orlínsky, a gorgeous man and superb musician. I didn't at all care for this staging, I say with regret. I find it clownish, and rather pandering to his fans' attraction to his beauty, which is unfortunately obscured, like the music, under layers of overdone makeup and corny-looking wigs. I would have loved to have seen this done with the same homoerotic subcurrent but without making it look like a comic drag show.
Well, the homoerotic subcurrent seemed to be put into all that in the first place by the Greeks and Metastasio‘s libretto and Vivaldi’s composition, that made sing one man to another a lullaby on a text and tune like this…. 😂
I believe that it can be objectively stated by all rational observers that these are by far the best costumes in any opera ever produced at any time in the history of opera, as well as the entire history of any and all theatrical and/or musical performances, as well as in any other art form, since the birth of our species and dating back to the formation of this planet, and the entire history of our universe since the Big Bang. I sincerely believe that it is in the interests of the greater good, that all future performance contracts involving Mr. Orlinski state clearly that he will be required to wear a wrestling singlet for the entirety of the production, not just during actual performances, but also during all rehearsals, and throughout the entire time he is in the city in which said performances occur, including, but not limited to, visits to any and all restaurants, drinking establishments, shopping venues, tourist attractions or any other activity or event where Mr. Orlinski will appear in public. I believe that it can be objectively stated by all rational observers that these are by far the best costumes in any opera ever produced at any time in the history of opera, as well as the entire history of any and all theatrical and/or musical performances, as well as in any other art form, since the birth of our species and dating back to the formation of this planet, and the entire history of our universe since the Big Bang.
I sincerely believe that it is in the interests of the greater good, that all future performance contracts involving Mr. Orlinski state clearly that he will be required to wear a wrestling singlet for the entirety of the production, not just during actual performances, but also during all rehearsals, and throughout the entire time he is in the city in which said performances occur, including, but not limited to, visits to any and all restaurants, drinking establishments, shopping venues, tourist attractions or any other activity or event where Mr. Orlinski will appear in public. And any appearance by Mr. Orlinski in any of heretofore mentioned locations without wearing said wrestling singlet, shall be considered a breach of contract and result in the criminal penalty whereby Mr. Orlinski will be required to wear a wrestling singlet for the rest of his life.
