A few days ago I talked about this with a friend while listening to the last (G)-IDLE's cb. I was so surprised to know that "a full album" could be just 8 songs. And some of them were sooo short. I love bridges! I want key changes! I need my dance breaks!
Hard agree. I feel like I blink and miss most of the song these days. I preferred it when songs would generally get to the 3:30 mark. Hopefully we see the trend move back to longer songs.
I’m very happy with Universals decision! I really hate how short the songs are It’s really upsetting I hope Kpop songs can start becoming longer again just like back in got 2000’s-2015 era of music😭 Thank you for your video on this The shorter thr song is, the shorter a song is, thr more likely your going to get tired of it faster😔
Yeah, I miss the times in which albums were like 30-40 min long and that was just normal length + songs like EXO 24/7 or BTS Butterfly that are 4 min long, BUT I feel like as long as we support longer albums & songs and speak out about this, it might just help us to get back to these 40 min albums & 4 min long songs! ^^
i don't think that the change would be as drastic as you say it, but i still agree with you. like let's not forget reels and youtube shorts, i don't think that universal cares much about it, so there's still a possibility to promote songs with dance challenges. i also think that songs will continue to be on the shorter side, just because music market is oversaturated and people need to get hooked in immediately for them to add a song to their playlist. that's why now a lot of songs start with a hook nowadays ("dash, i wanna dash, i wanna run it" in dash, for example). music market is forever changed bt short-form content and removal of music from tiktok won't change it much, i think, but there will be some sort of change like you mentioned, for sure
You're right about this! I linked some videos on this topic in the description that talk about the other reasons for songs getting shorter. And of course when you want to catch someones attention, it makes sense to put the chorus right in the beginning and repeat it as much as possible. But I kind of feel like Universal is going to take their music of off RUclips shorts as well, this is just the natural next step when they feel like they are not getting any money out of Tiktok, then why would they be happy with the same situation going on on RUclips shorts. But on the other hand I also have to mention that the change is actually less noticeable with already established groups from 3rd gen. NCT, Red Velvet, Shinee, Seventeen etc. they all continue to create longer music and albums (even though there also is a slight decrease in length, it feels less noticeable when you go from 4:30 to 3:50 in comparison to 3:20 to 2:30) and I feel like even if it is going to be great for the streaming numbers if the song is shorter, you will get tired of the song way quicker. Which also explains people talking about old NCT, Red Velvet, Shinee etc. songs till this day. They just didn't feel like they where solely cash grabs. So I just hope that these songs will get longer in the future, just like TV shows went from 30 min to now 1 hour episodes and how RUclips videos went from 10 min to 1 hour video essays. I guess I'm just manifesting with this video lol ^^
@@florastel oh, now i just fully agree with you ahahahah great video, it's nice to see you branching out to other video topics. excited to see what you will do next!
Thank you so much for posting this. This is an issue that really bothers me because I have loved Kpop songs since 2010 and to see it grow so short just angers me I guess. The short songs feel super incomplete to me and while I love some of them like Chuu’s Howl and (G) I-dle’s Super Lady, it just seems like a one and done thing. Like I love songs that take me on a journey and with these short songs it just interrupts the flow and leaves me wanting more of it. I was really disappointed with (G)I-dle’s comeback because of how short the album was and how short the songs were. I feel like each song had so much more potential if they were just fleshed out and added more to the track list. It all just doesn’t leave a good impression to me and doesn’t have a long shelf life in the end. Sorry for the rant, this is something that I just really want to talk to people about. No hate to Soyeon or the rest of the group as it isn’t their fault. I blame the apps and sites like TikTok for causing this to be a trend.
Yeah, I totally get you. Honestly some of the Albums I listen to the most are like 5-7 years old. With a 50-60 min Album I can just do something and let the music play in the background, unlike with these 15-20 min Albums... And with like 20 min Albums I really can't replay them to much, because they become old and overplayed very quickly. It's like reading a really good book and then they didn't want the book to be longer then 200 pages, so they just summaries the second half of the book on the last 2 pages... LIKE until now it was great, why not finish this greatness and give it time to breath??? I hope this is relatable lol ^^
@@florastel Oh yeah this is totally relatable and I agree. Some of my favorite songs come from like 2012 and 2013 and still hold up. But these short songs, like you had said, don't have that much replay-ability. Which is a shame because the artists put so much work into them and they should be recognized for that.

i agree 100%, I really enjoy it when a song changes up it's structure or adds some more instruments to the last chorus. Thanks for sharing! ^^

I really really hope so🤞
Like I almost wish it was a standard and a requirement to have music go past 3:00🥲
I completely agree. I really miss when Kpop made longer albums and songs.
