This is the smoothest, quietest, most vibration free and best performing Speed Queen I’ve ever seen from the 1950s through the 1070s. Congratulations on an incredible restoration with brilliant results.
Absolutely EXCELLENT washing action! I love how it uses WATER so that everything moves around freely and stays under the water! Todays HE washers DO NOT USE NEARLY ANY WATER and DO NOT CLEAN AT ALL!!! THIS SQ IS EXCELLENT!!!!!+
These are the bee’s knees. I notice the dryer is electric, which is rare for me to see in this era. My family only bought SQ’s ever since the 50’s. They lasted decades before in home repair kinda fell by the way side for them as most didn’t either know anything about them or parts just weren’t as plentiful and it just wasn’t as cost effective to keep them going anymore. So sad, but I enjoy seeing the survivors restored and loved today! 👍👍
An absolutely gorgeous set! I've always loved the old-school machines, whether it be Westinghouse, Frigidaire, Speed Queen, Maytag, you name it. Id love to someday have even half the collection that you have! Amazing video!
Another great restoration and video. Plus, another memory for me. My parents had a 1965 Speed Queen, not as fancy as this, but the wash cycle was the same. Thanks for posting! Your filming is awesome.
There is something about the wash action of Speed Queens. Especially with the aluminum agitator. It's literally like the clothes are almost dancing in the tub. Lots of action going on. Just goes to show a simple three-bladed straight vain can tow the line.
What a beautiful pair! You did an amazing job with the restoration. These machines are really wonderful to see working and functioning as they did back in the day. You just can’t beat these vintage workhorse units! By the way, if I was there, I would go nuts seeing all your beautiful machines! 😅
If speed queen would make the TC5 tubs sit still you would have the same wash action in them as you have in this one, but no somebody's always trying to fix something that's not broke, wish I had one of these machines
This Speed Queen set is to die for! It is just like brand new! My Speed Queen TC5/DC5 set reminds me of this SQ laundry pair from the late 1960s! It is very aggressive as well!
I would buy these in a heartbeat. I dont understand why Speed Queen wont stick to this type of wash action with this agitator . This new HE era of washing is not effective for getting clothes clean. I want my washer to beat the hell out of my clothes so when i walk by people will know damn he smell good. Yea because my clothes are clean, lol. Thank you for posting these wonderful restored machines.
Clothes today are not made or constructed well and this machine would most likely rip many modern fabrics to shreds. But these machines are beautiful to watch in action. I could watch this wash action all day!
They still do, they make the TC5/DC5 set which is almost exactly like this in terms of wash and operation! People who complain that agitators are rough have yoga pants and Nike apparel and fake clothing. Us who have cotton clothing need proper washers!
I grew up with era of SQ. I currently own a TR set and that’s a different wash system and personally it’s the detergent that’s letting us down. I use Bubble Bandit with my 2018 TR-5 series and not one disappointment is to be had with it and it’s 5 years old now and doing fine. The machine that raised all the hell on RUclips was not working correctly. Agitation is no where near that pathetic with the agitub machines.
That is how the old Maytag machines worked too before Whirlpool took over. The Maytag agitator would pull the clothes down. Now you have HE high efficiency, and the clothes are rubbed against another in hardly any water. The clothes do not get clean in the new modern machines. When I was growing up a neighbor had Speed Queens from the 1960's. The Speed Queen repair man was always at her house fixing the timers. My mother, and another neighbor were glad at the time that they had Maytags. Back then Maytag had the lonely repairman. Now Maytag is owned by Whirlpool.
I like Maytag, but I would prefer the Speed Queen like this as they used to be in the laundromat, boy could they clean! I have a Whirlpool/ Maytag that does ok , but is noisy.
Your folks machine was from the Raytheon era of ownership after MaGraw Edison sold Speed Queen in 1980. The sale was due to regulation changes in efficiency. The basic premise of the Raytheon era SQ’s is still used in the Alliance Laundry Systems built machines with modifications over the decades since 1980. This particular SQ platform was a laundromat workhorse for decades well after 1980.
I've Never seen a washing machine that didn't have holes around the inner spin basket so how is the washer supposed to spin the water out of your clothes without any holes?
Thanks, Tommy. This set was on CL and posted over on AW for well over a week before I reached out to the seller. I was surprised they got so little attention.
I had a Speed Queen wringer washer that was mint condition and I paid $5.00 for it at an auction because nobody wanted it. I have kicked myself ever since of letting it go.
With regards to that spin pulley caption at 12:31, how many rpm's did it originally spin? And what was making all that "belching" during the deep rinse between the overflow rinses?
Original RPM was rated at 625 RPM. The noise you're hearing is cavitation from the pump running without enough water to force the remaining water from the housing.
Gorgeous machines. Too bad things aren't made like that anymore.
yeah I like vintage washers
Maybe the best agitation I have ever seen in a Speed Queen top load machine and that dryer looks BOSS.
Amazing! I don't think I have ever heard a SQ solid tub run so smoothly. Nice restoration work!
Indeed it is a solid tub design, I'm assuming that water is drained by centrifugal force over the top of the drum?
@@kalanikaau1 yes
That has a similar wash action to a Wringer washer! This may be the best wash action i've ever seen on a automatic washer.
This is the smoothest, quietest, most vibration free and best performing Speed Queen I’ve ever seen from the 1950s through the 1070s. Congratulations on an incredible restoration with brilliant results.
Ah yes. I remember my old speed queen from 1070. Regret getting rid of it.

That solid stainless steel tub is so pretty. You’ve done it again!
You have a Great collection of washers and dryers! Love these machines! That washer means business
What a stunning washer. Congratulations on your meticulous restoration. Amazing washing action and such a gorgeous design.

Yjays a classic restoration , looks & sound like new - When did Speed Queen tubs change from solid to basket with holes ?
That was the most amazing spin cycle I've ever seen. I mean 10 seconds and nearly at full speed 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
Absolutely gorgeous!!! Nothing beats these.
Awesome wash action
I have never seen a washer that runs the motor during fill. Very unique!
This is nice. But i will always be most fond of the Sears 1967 Kenmore wash n dryer Combination with Rotospray wash.
It's got a nice deep smooth solid quality sound to it....
I love those overflow tubs!
I wish they’d bring em back.
When I was a child these are what was in the Landry mat.

I noticed the wash action is very similar to a Wringer Washer.

I agree 100%. HE is stupid!
@@DylBuilder1very true, the only big difference is these machines had the overflow rinse which use a ton of water but was the best way to rinse
There are no holes in the tub so... how does the washer drain the water from the tub?
Gorgeous machines! 🤩🤩🤩
Speed Queen, the only brand that makes them like they used to.
Beautiful machine.
57 years old, Washers sold today last a couple years and They call it progress.
No nonsense. Let get right into the spin. I mean it.
Attention: Speed Queen sells the TC5/DC5 set. This is the closest thing to this 1960s SQ laundry pair.
Great set for the most part! Only 1 or 2 at the same quality or better.
The notch in modern speed queens is nearly identical in the lid.
Beautiful set !
It sure pulls those clothes down and gets them clean. Very nice restoration.

Awesome agitation
Well you can't say there wasn't good circulation.
OMG! It actually is washing the clothes and not gently sliding them around! What will they think of next!😮
The only drawback to the overflow rinse is if you use fabric softener, it would rinse it out, or make it weak.

It goes over the top

This is very powerful.
That's curious...I recall Speed Queen's of this era doing an overflow rinse at the end of the wash portion....
Yes I don’t understand the need for that, would be fine in the rinse cycle only
@@Joemil271It was the 1960's...whole different time. In the 1960's there were no regulations and no restrictions. Amd no pussies.
@@Joemil271 I see it as since it doesn’t have a spray rinse this helps with the rinsing.
Does it have a fluid drive
Hello Ben, Absolute beauties. Thank you for the video.
How do come about all these wonderful vintage machines? I would love to know your secret.

Interesting lint filter
Do they have a price?
PS Fridgeidaire is on my list too.
Love the turnover
Awesome
sweet sweet sweet
I bought a speed queen wringer lint filter, I would like to return it, but I'm not sure who it belongs to.
I am trying to post a picture of the filter, but it is not letting me.
Ont en avait une du même principe que ça mais c'était Une miss Canada
