My guess Acid Golem is on Overlay Regen is as simple as it’s a card that would greatly benefit from its effect as giving you an extra material gives you more time to use it as a beat stick without taking the damage penalty
I am also confused by the art of Overlay Regen. It's very rare for anime/manga lore to be seen alongside card game-exclusive lore. In this case, it's a crossover between the ZEXAL anime/manga and the Duel Terminal storyline. Acid Golem isn't just a random xyz monster. It's a Number monster. That fact should hold significance. Similarly, Daigusto Emeral and Lavalval Chain also hold significance because they represent alliances of different archetypes in the Duel Terminal storyline. But the simple answer is probably because they are some of the earliest xyz monsters. So Overlay Regen is more in line with self-referential cards that Yu-Gi-Oh! sometimes makes, kinda similar to the card Summon Gate where the art shows Norden, Shock Master, Plushfire, and Goyo Guardian in a prison. That card references the banlist and not any sort of card lore or anime lore. Similarly, Overlay Regen really just represents the dawn of xyz monsters in the game and not any sort of lore.

Interesting detail on silver sentinel is the inclusion of the telescopic sight on the rifle. The White Death didn't use one to avoid the glare revealing his position.
Wow…just…wow ok like, I know this sounds cheesy but you being able to uncover and expose all these obscure references in cards honestly makes me love this series so much. Yugioh has so much obscurity and interesting concept that not many people appreciate and this just makes me love it more. Especially that but about silver sentinel, I honestly wouldn’t have guessed it was based on a WW2 sniper if you hadn’t drawn the comparison. Keep up the amazing work and I hope you keep this series alive
Fun facts about simo häyhä: he almost never used a scope because he didn't want to give away his position with lense flare (Simo was one of the best scopeless snipers in the history of man). He also adopted ingenious strategies like packing snow in his sniper spots so that snow wouldn't fly up if he took a shot. Lastly he would put snow in his mouth to reduce steam from his breathing to make it harder foe counter snipers to find him. The effect of Silver sentinel is a pretty macabre reference to the fact that Simo took a grenade to the face and managed to survive. It specifically specials itself in the end phase so I think it's a dark reference to that event.
About simo his record is a little more impressive than that, during the winter war he killed officially 505 russian soldier using his rifle (some source claim hes at 542) and thats without counting the kills he did with his machike gun, plus the war lasted about 100 days and not 1 year. and unlike the card artwork he didnt use optics on his rifle only the iron sight.

Grandopolis is my absolute favourite match winners and one of my favourite cards of all time. I was only a hundred dollars short of buying a Becket graded one for about $300, but I unfortunately couldn't afford it so I picked up the playmat instead. I wish I had grabbed the card, it is absurdly, impossibly hard to find it now. I am trying to save up for the day I do buy it. It *will* be mine.
It might be interesting to go over the seldom used effects on popular cards. A whole section of this sort of thing could be filled with XYZ overlay shenanigans, Downerd Magician hasn't been used for combat purposes since Burning Abyss was relevant to the metagame, and no one used Boarbow's other effect even when Zoodiacs had all their monsters because of how ridiculously impractical it was to pull off. Utopic Future has a cool effect, but it's usually used to go into Utopic Draco Future without ever making use of said effect due to the risks involved.
Victory Dragon being a tournament breaking card is the whole reason all match winners are illegal. He was the first with the effect and the last to be “legal” in some capacity
Pretty sure Acid Gollum was designed to give to your opponent, it is what they did in the anime at least. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a lava gollum retrain
Except... Simo Hayha never fought in WWII, he fought in the Winter War between Finland & Russia *BEFORE* Finland joined the Axis powers. He was given the nickname by the Soviet Union because he terrified the heck out of them. 500 kills with a rifle (including at least one polykill) & circa 242 with a submachine gun, and surviving everything from counter-sniper teams sent out specifically to eliminate him, to *ARTILLERY BARRAGES*. Of note, is his tactic of essentially burying himself in the snow and keeping snow in his mouth to hide his breath, while only using the iron sights of the gun rather than any scopes to avoid the glare of sunlight on the lens giving him away. And one further note, is that his rifle wasn't a Remmington at all, but a Finnish-made copy of the Soviet's own Moisin Nagant rifle.
I have a Victory Dragon! It's one of the few cards that's made it from my box of scrap cards all the way to present day, and it even survived a house fire! It's a good-luck charm of mine
A other set cards that could fit in with the unique origin category are Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei & Protective Soul Ailin which were made in memory of some sad events.
So, I would try and discuss a few cards, like... *Video Game exclusive monsters*: Like, cards that were exclusive to video games. I know this is not your alley, considering you focus on the TCG/OCG, but over the years, they made cards for the video games just to fill that purpose. A unique example would be the custom monsters from Duel Monsters 2 (released as Dark Duel Stories and was the only one in the series to come to the States), with cards like Soul Scissors and Light Law Medium being two monsters that actually did make it into the real game. Another would be the monster Reshef the Dark Being, who was the titular antagonist of the 2004 game Reshef of Destruction. *Cards that reference characters*: The game doesn't do fanservice that much in an effort to keep things as generic as possible, and also because there's the concerns that the series as a whole caters to those who were fans of the Duel Monsters era, but you might want to talk about cards that feature anime or manga characters, like how there's nearly 2 dozen cards featuring the character Ai from VRAINS, or how certain characters like Orbital 7 and Lillybot from ZEXAL as well as Princess Cologne from the ZEXAL manga have become actual cards in the game.
I was able to guess what Silver Sentinel was based on because I had heard of Simo Hayha in Shuumatsu no Valkyrie, and you just so happened to use the art of Simo from that manga to explain it. Seems like a lot of people are learning about him and his accomplishments through that series, and he hasn't even had his fight yet.
Fellow Shuumatsu no Valkyrie reader here 🤚 and ngl the latest round fighter is a blast. And the character designs...damn those are coolest sht ive seen
Next time you make a video like this. Do one about yugioh cards that are references to other Konami video games. There's a ton of material for it ranging from Metal Gear Solid, Gradius, Parodius, Castlevania, Silent Hill, and etc.
Silver Sentinel also recently got a retrain. Sunlit Sentinel. The difference is Sunlit has a better stat line, is two levels higher, and can destroy more than one card; up to three if placed on a column with an extra monster zone. The only problem with it is it's a little bit slower, as it summons itself on the Standby Phase of the following turn after it was destroyed instead of the End Phase on the turn it was destroyed.
A random card I'd like to see featured at some point is Berserk Dragon. First, it's a garnet. It can only be summoned through its unsearchable spell, that also needs a specific condition. Also, it loses 500 atk each turn. However, decks nowadays are great at special summoning high level monsters. Meeting the requirement of the spell is easy now. Then you have a quick play spell that summons a 3.5k beater from the deck and can attack each monster. If you don't use it to sweep the board, it's still high level for Xyz plays. If you leave it in play, it's still a 3k body that's annoying to beat over, likely eating up a removal.
Leonardo’s Silver Skyship is also notable for being the only 2 tribute wind normal monster. Which makes it the only card that can uses Wind Effigy effect (it counts as 2 tributes for a wind normal monster) Technically there is a Simorgh card that can use it but it’s not a normal monster (it’s treated as a normal monster in the hand)
As a Finn, it is slightly annoying to see a BIG, OBVIOUS scope on a monster inspired by the Man who literally made his fame by doing those 500+ Sniper kills *without* a scope... and in a similar vein, the gleaming, silver rifle is also bothersome. as for why the rifle is bothersome? Simo chose to not use a newer, scoped rifle for a couple of practical reasons, but most important here being: 1: The lens would fog up in the winter air. 2: The scope could reflect the sun's rays and give away his position... y'know, much like how a silver rifle would give away his position.
A card that definitely should be on a future episode, Frog the Jam Reason: This card's English name caused ruling changes in the future. It's actual name is Slime Toad, but it came over as Frog the Jam, which became an issue when Frog Summoning became a thing. Now rulings have to note that "Frog the Jam doesn't count." Eventually I think it was reprinted to be Slime Toad in English, but jsut that there were rulings is pretty funny. As if it being summonable would've made a huge difference.
Why not do a top 10 on cards that saw competitive play for niche roles, like that time people ran Diamond Crab King to out Towers or when people ran Dragon Buster with Union carrier
Ah yes, Acid Golem Stall is still my favorite way to use Acid Golem. Pair it with cards like Mask of Restrict and play a normal Water Xyz deck with the Nash support its actually really annoying to deal with. Granted it requires you to run 3 Mask, run a Rank 4 engine for Bahamut and have Creature Swap, but still never beats burning enemies with 2k per turn. This deck of mine also runs IO, IW, TCOBO, and RD so yeah its really obnoxious. I was planning on running Fallen of Albaz so i can run Masquerade so i can burn more.
Not exactly real cards, but you could do a video on custom cards from Yu-Gi-Oh games, like Dark Duel Stories that let you merge card halves to create completely new cards or video game exclusive cards in general!
Conceding is not a frowned upon action and is even a shrewd tactic that smart players will utilize to conceal deck information, when they lose the die roll and they can't break the opponent's board, for an easier game 2 win.
The Match winner cards have some of the best artwork Konami has put out. Legendary Dragon of White, Legendary Magician of Dark, Victory Dragon and to name a few.
Think shonen jump sometimes included a yugioh card once in a while like twenty years ago and one time they included victory dragon. Only remembered this because that's how I got mine and an oblesisk the tormentor
Acid golem may of been inspired by fugo’s stand “purple haze” as both have a poison theme with them, they also hurt can hurt user and even though it has one fight (not counting feedback) all the other characters don’t bring there stands out when purple haze is fighting Don’t quote me on this just speculation
Black Ptera needs a mention, it's quite a unique card regarding being possibly exploitable but cannot be as Ultimate Offering is banned and Firewall Dragon had an errata
Was hoping that Silver Sentinel had a slightly more interesting factoid because I happen to have an Ultimate rare copy of it. but it's still a really cool card and I figured it was based on the White Death.
They could have potentially made Fusion and Ritual Match Winners without printing any extra cards. The Fusion would just have to use Polymerization and 3 materials of a certain Type. For the Ritual, there are a couple generic Ritual Spells based on Attribute as well as Advanced Ritual Art. I think they only printed the generic Ritual Spells for Dark and Earth, though.
here's a cool idea for a video, what about a discussion on the worst cards of a specific archetype, like the myriad of bad/unplayed blue-eyes support cards for example.
That would be a series of videos really. Pretty much every archetype, even the really broken ones, has at least 1 card that was never played because it is awful.
@@gatocochino5594 Not to mention those early archetypes like Ice Barriers or Roids where there just doesn't seem to be any defining strategy whatsoever.
What abouut a video on the BANDAI-only cards and the toei anime, things like the Hecate sisters, Aphrodite, Original zombie master and the iconic Blue eyes 3 body connection?( they couldn't be never reprinted again in the ocg-tcg) or what about the OCG-only normal cards that appeared in the anime aren't mported yet?(things like cyber commander, dark chimera, kraken) or the never imported to the tcg ever (magi magi magician girl, horakhy, true exodia and the infamous shuttleroid)
Bit of an odd suggestion, but how about cards that are good in the YuGiOh video games? Like how Gate Guardian is a powerful monster to overcome in Forbidden Memories, but in the TCG and OCG, it's nigh useless outside of UFOroid Fighter shenanigans.
I've bad memories of dealing with the High Meadow Mage in Forbidden Memories. Him, and the High Forest Mage with his Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth. Both guys would always have their field spell and ace monster in their opening hands. You needed to either have a couple Meteor Black Dragons or be able to make one to help in those match-ups.
The Moth lineup is also incredibly strong in early video games. This is because in those games, the moths upgraded turn after turn into their next strongest stage, so you could start with Cocoon of Evolution as a 2k wall, then yield a Great Moth on the next turn as a 2600 beater, then finish off with a 3500-ATK Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth. On the front of later video games, the Hundred-Eyes Dragon in Tag Force passively gains the effects of all Infernity monsters in the Graveyard and lets you tutor any card when destroyed. So with a fully-loaded Graveyard, you have a 3000-ATK beater with pretty good protection for the time, piercing damage, a once-per-turn draw, and a once-per-turn revival.
That is kind of stupid of Konami create match wining cards that you can't use in official duels and can only be used in unofficial matches or unofficial tournaments. Good video dude.
Honestly, the idea is just that they're given out as prize cards in tournaments. It wouldn't be a very nice thing to make those cards actually useful, because then you'd be creating a card that only twenty or so people in the world can use. This isn't the anime, after all.
@@Chaosic The difference is that those cards weren't created with the intention of being banned or errataed later on. Hell, even in the case of those cards, at least you can own them and play them in casual games.
I'd love to see a video about any information about the (possibly still around) duel kiosk machines where cards like Fabled monsters got their start. Or the fabled archetype if you could do that.
Hi mister logs, what about a list of cards that make you keep track of information that you would not normally ever care about? Something like inspector boarder making you count how many monster effects each player acrivates, nibiru having you count summons, ogdoabyss the ogdoadic overlord having you keep track of which monsters are special summoned from the graveyard, etc.
Here's an idea: in MTG there's a set of cards called the power nine, generally considered the nine most powerful cards ever printed. So my thought is: What's the power nine of Yu-Gi-Oh?
Pot of greed, Yata garasu, ojama lime, shapesnatch, Solemn Johnson, Dante from the Burning Abyss series, And the 3 Egyption God cards with egyptian text on it
Really, I don't think a Power Nine can exist in Yu-Gi-Oh, because the Power Nine in MTG have a very specific set of similarities. They were all released in the first set of the game, and most of them are functionally quite similar; six of them are based on giving free mana, and two of them are draw cards. Not to mention they've never been powercrept and have stayed broken to this day, and they've also never had any legal reprints, so their value is evident in their absurd aftermarket prices. The closest thing Yu-Gi-Oh has is probably a concept from the early days called the Seven Staples, which were seven cards that essentially any deck would run if the user could afford them: Raigeki, Dark Hole, Harpie's Feather Duster, Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, Change of Heart, and Imperial Order. And of those seven, only three remain banned. Meanwhile, some cards from the early days that were available at the same time as those cards have also been found to be overpowered, like Last Will, Delinquent Duo, or The Forceful Sentry.

Sasuke Samurai itself is based on Sasuke from Ganbare Goemon, a Konami game.
But there folklore itself maybe based on Kozuki Sasuke and Sarutobi Nisuke and subsequently other characters from Japanese history. I'm willing to stand corrected because I'm not expert on Japanese culture.
There are quite a lot of monsters with Golem in the name. However, I'd say there are only three that fit the description of being based on Lava Golem; that being Grinder Golem and Acid Golem. Also, arguably, Volcanic Queen, who isn't a Golem but functions like a mini-Lava Golem in most respects.

Would love to spread the word that the fiends of Dark World arent evil, they just look evil but according to the Master Guides their friendly to hang around with.
Yugioh GX disagrees.
I'unno, man, Ryko looks like he's having a very bad time in the dark world traps he shows up in, and he's a very good boy. Making the good boy upset can't be *good*.
@@fluffalpenguin If you look at the artwork of the new Dark World Quick Play Spell, you can see that Ryko is actually waging its tail and the atmosphere seems generally happy.
I feel like the actual only "mean" Dark World monster is Grapha, as seen on the artwork of Dimension Slice
@@Gwenth Bronn also. Come on, his title is "Mad King"! Do you think he'll be a chill dude?
Interesting detail on silver sentinel is the inclusion of the telescopic sight on the rifle. The White Death didn't use one to avoid the glare revealing his position.
Just looking to wind down after work. Talk about actually perfect timing on this upload. Love the vids, cheers!
I changed my mind again. THIS is my favorite thing you do!
Literally my favorite video series on all of YT
About simo his record is a little more impressive than that, during the winter war he killed officially 505 russian soldier using his rifle (some source claim hes at 542) and thats without counting the kills he did with his machike gun, plus the war lasted about 100 days and not 1 year. and unlike the card artwork he didnt use optics on his rifle only the iron sight.
Given how Konami is willing to censur cards, can someone tell me why print specifically this?
@@JonaGDP because there is nothing gore on the image nor religious
@@tritojean7549 I mean... they censor Barrel Dragon just for having guns, same with Don Saloog for showing guns and... being honest, I don't think that painting it like with Barrel Dragon really solve anything.
I guess... Konami is just weird.
@@JonaGDP yeah but those cards are old like they were there when 4kids was still a thing while sentinel went out in english 1.5 month after 4kids died so that may be the cause
Ahh just heading to sleep . so satisfying
Same
The tidbit about Water/Rock monsters is neat, we have three cards all used in the same deck and then the monstrosity that is Acid Golem
Very nice. I like these types of vids along side the top 10s. It's a nice change of pace.
Please cover more of the lesser known cards like the tournament prizes and the shonen jump promo cards, super interesting and it’s hard to find a comprehensive list of all of them in one place!
It literally isn’t hard at all. You just search “list of Yugioh prize cards”
3:39 I appreciate this card in Tag Force Special for it being the highest scale with no restrictions which is also searchable with Summoner's Art
If theduellogs made a video on the top 10 monsters with 10 letter names i'd watch it no question
Not sure
Thank you for explaining that silver sentinel combo,I was confused about it .
This is my favorite series you make
I have a Victory Dragon!
Thanks for being in my corner. Had a bad day today
Yeah, no problem man.
Which makes it the only card that can uses Wind Effigy effect (it counts as 2 tributes for a wind normal monster)
Technically there is a Simorgh card that can use it but it’s not a normal monster (it’s treated as a normal monster in the hand)
Simo chose to not use a newer, scoped rifle for a couple of practical reasons, but most important here being:
1: The lens would fog up in the winter air.
2: The scope could reflect the sun's rays and give away his position... y'know, much like how a silver rifle would give away his position.
A card that definitely should be on a future episode, Frog the Jam
Reason: This card's English name caused ruling changes in the future. It's actual name is Slime Toad, but it came over as Frog the Jam, which became an issue when Frog Summoning became a thing. Now rulings have to note that "Frog the Jam doesn't count."
Eventually I think it was reprinted to be Slime Toad in English, but jsut that there were rulings is pretty funny. As if it being summonable would've made a huge difference.
"...any 'Frog' monster, except *horrific static noise*"
something really struck inside me, and immediately fell in love with Leonardo's ship
What do you mean "guess"? Acid Golem is used in Overlay Regeneration because its ment to keep Acid Golem attacking for one more turn
Wanna play the game. Pay all your taxes
Not exactly real cards, but you could do a video on custom cards from Yu-Gi-Oh games, like Dark Duel Stories that let you merge card halves to create completely new cards or video game exclusive cards in general!
random question but how did you get such a high quality picture of acid golem?
Great vid, thank you
7:28 actually toy magician was used by Yugi muto in Yugioh-R
Conceding is not a frowned upon action and is even a shrewd tactic that smart players will utilize to conceal deck information, when they lose the die roll and they can't break the opponent's board, for an easier game 2 win.
The Match winner cards have some of the best artwork Konami has put out. Legendary Dragon of White, Legendary Magician of Dark, Victory Dragon and to name a few.
Imma have to find it, i have a victory dragon, i think Victory Dragon was a Shonen Jump promo
Think shonen jump sometimes included a yugioh card once in a while like twenty years ago and one time they included victory dragon. Only remembered this because that's how I got mine and an oblesisk the tormentor
3:36 - What about Sakyo, Swordmaster of the Far East?
Acid golem may of been inspired by fugo’s stand “purple haze” as both have a poison theme with them, they also hurt can hurt user and even though it has one fight (not counting feedback) all the other characters don’t bring there stands out when purple haze is fighting
Don’t quote me on this just speculation
now this is a jojo ref
Black Ptera needs a mention, it's quite a unique card regarding being possibly exploitable but cannot be as Ultimate Offering is banned and Firewall Dragon had an errata
Even more interesting than the top 10
Night assailant is the COOLEST card in existence next to that prophecy destroyer card.
Or Blackwings. I don't even think Konami knows just how many shitty pack filler Blackwings have been printed.
Or number monsters or HERO or DM or odd-eyes/ performapal/perfomage
That would be a series of videos really. Pretty much every archetype, even the really broken ones, has at least 1 card that was never played because it is awful.
@@gatocochino5594 Not to mention those early archetypes like Ice Barriers or Roids where there just doesn't seem to be any defining strategy whatsoever.
What abouut a video on the BANDAI-only cards and the toei anime, things like the Hecate sisters, Aphrodite, Original zombie master and the iconic Blue eyes 3 body connection?( they couldn't be never reprinted again in the ocg-tcg)
or what about the OCG-only normal cards that appeared in the anime aren't mported yet?(things like cyber commander, dark chimera, kraken)
or the never imported to the tcg ever (magi magi magician girl, horakhy, true exodia and the infamous shuttleroid)
Acid golem always reminded me of Purple Haze from JoJo part 5. Wonder if there was some inspiration for that.
8:54 500 confirmed sniper kills in 100 days
Gate Guardian you have to get lucky to beat, you need Mountain and a Ultimate Meteor Dragon with Sun arcana iirc
Damn that's creative
so when are you playing acid golem turbo in md
jidden gem of the seafront-my favorite new card from POOT
Love this, please, more videos like this.
@@misterbadguy7325 that isn't much different from Konami creating overpowered cards only for them to be on the ban list or nerf their effects.

Damn, that acid golem just reminds me of rescue rabbit saga.
Konami probably feared that the Finnish would come after them if they censored Silver Sentinel.
In other words, they feared they'd be...
😎
...Finnished?
Kuzunoha, the Onmyojin is similar to the Twin Kings 4:10
Hi mister logs, what about a list of cards that make you keep track of information that you would not normally ever care about? Something like inspector boarder making you count how many monster effects each player acrivates, nibiru having you count summons, ogdoabyss the ogdoadic overlord having you keep track of which monsters are special summoned from the graveyard, etc.
It would be nice if they put the match winners in duel links since they have cool art and would just be vanillas in that game.
Here's an idea: in MTG there's a set of cards called the power nine, generally considered the nine most powerful cards ever printed. So my thought is: What's the power nine of Yu-Gi-Oh?
It call the ban list
Pot of greed, Yata garasu, ojama lime, shapesnatch, Solemn Johnson, Dante from the Burning Abyss series, And the 3 Egyption God cards with egyptian text on it
@@patriotnguyen2721 yata garasu? U mean Yowie? Also id say solemn mike is better than johnson imo
Monsters based on real living people.
Therese are two I know of
. Saske Samurai = Yasuke the black Samurai (although technically he was a retainer)
. Alister invoker/Crowley of Magistus = Alister Crowley.
Ancient warriors archetype based on the Chinese 3 kingdoms character
D/d/d monster basedon mythical and historical figures (Joan of Arc, Genghis Khan, Einstein, Tesla, Alexandeer,...)
Sasuke is actually the name of Sarutobi Sasuke, a famous ninja from Japanese folklore. Because of him, it's kind of a cliche for ninjas or characters of that ilk to be named "Sasuke", with the most famous example being the Naruto character.
Is anyone keeping a tally on how many time Hiru has explained match winner cards in his videos?
Alright that makes sense. I always found these cards really dumb and unnecessary but didn't think of them in competitive context.
Match winner cards! Should do a serves on it
Am I the only one who finds it weird there's no more Golems? It could be a good series of monsters with high stats and huge downsides
Can you do a history of flip effect cards?
Are of fools on acid golem could be solid, negate his bad effect and he's a 4k beat stick
Seriously, Konami need to change the rule of quitting anytime you want. The only time you can quit is anytime on your turn or at the start or end of your opponent’s turn.
yeah i don't think it will make a big difference
Tyr likely doesnt have that big of a price tag. thats just a listing thats been there for a long time. close to 100k for sure though
Top 10 cards that should be ritual monsters but aren’t, like gearfried the sword master, how is release restraint not a ritual spell?
Anime BS , Joey/Jonuci used those cards only once during Orichalkos arc in his duel vs Rex Raptor
I am so unbelievably jealous of Tyler

Please do Top 10 best link monsters or Top 10 non-Number XYZ monsters or Top fusion monsters that can only be brought out by polymerization or a fusion method !
Yeah acid golem is somewhat terrible because of the no special summoning effect but it's decent too actually gaining life points by ddd oracle king d arc if you bring that card first
I’d love the story of Gagagigo.
Would you take a look and decipher what was Qliphort Monolith says in its normal flavour text? Or its just no-meaning and konami employee smashing their keyboard for the text?
