I have a family of 6 (4 children) and I have been shopping at bjs monthly for over a decade; I tried Costco one time and did not like it one bit. To each their own but they have great deals when you shop with their coupons and have a large family. 😀
Oh dear ... I have some diffetent opinions ... Respectfully - The BIG bottle of oil is necessary if you are deep frying. One big box of diapers for each stage, prior to that stage is an absolute savings. Buy the BJ brand however. Leftover diapers can be given to a friend. I gifted a box of newborn diapers (along with new gifts, don't worry) I had leftover to my cousin. Pretty much your choices for 'never buys' are personal, and must vary for each individual family need or situation. For example, I bought the big double bottle of Extra Virgin Olive oil, but we use it for almost everything, and in two months time it is time to rebuy. Much cheaper by volume at BJs. But, thay might not work for soneone else. Plus ... BJs has coupons too, add that to the manufacturer coupons for extra savings. Good video though.
AGREE! even better I find if you split boxes of diapers with a friend and then trade the ones with leftovers it goes even further. You can get a good 5 Uses out of them, just so neither party has fed the kid any leftover that is too acidic or too much of a watery consistency, like soup or pasta sauce, or certain dishes of Indian Chinese Thai or Eastern European Cuisines. The stool from any Leftovers that are qvery rich spicy or bright colored can ruin the inner lining, and frankly, is a faux paw amongst the diaper sharing/swapping community and shouldn’t be offered when trading or sharing with your swap buddy anyway!
Hey Matt, love your show but, I’m in Connecticut and I exclusively shop at BJ's even though I have a Costco membership too. The reason we shop BJ's is because in the two stores we have available to us, there are NEVER any lines at the checkout like they’re are at Costco. I’m not a “line” person. Secondly my preference to BJ's over Costco is packaging size. BJ's tends to have smaller product sizes, still larger or even the same size as local grocery stores, than the massive sizes at Costco. My wife loves the Costco wine, if not for that we would probably drop the Costco membership. Watching this BJ's video is the first time I did not agree with you about what not to buy at BJ's.
Laundry products are worth it even for the average family. Buy products twice a year instead of every 2 weeks. Canned goods are good if you can split them with neighbors.
We shop on average twice a month, and fill car up after shopping. Convenient for our family with their brands of things our ADULT family uses daily(coffee,1/2&1/2,eggs,t.p.,paper towels, etc.) I recommend using their digital coupons AND paper coupons to combine savings.
Thank you so much for the tips! I’d love to see more BJs content. I shop there a lot since there is one in my neighborhood and another one near my job.
Diapers at bjs have been a godsend. Comes out so much cheaper and from birth until now one box has lasted me each stage until they leveled out at size 5. I buy one box a month and saves me a ton compared to small packages at the store even with coupons. Bjs always has great deals on diapers usually 5$ off or more and you can get manufacturers coupons too
Aldi’s: Gluten Free items are the CHEAPEST and GOOD quality for the prices. I personally don’t recommend the fresh items except for the kiwis, cucumbers and lemons. The other fruit is okay but definitely check them before you buy and make sure you’ll eat them within 4 or less days after the purchase. Would not recommend the meat there but the milk and eggs and dairy products are all good. (These are just my personal opinions from grocery shopping there for years)

I disagree with canned goods because you can use manufactures coupons at BJS and you used to be able to use multiple coupons on one purchase so if you had two coupons for .25 off two cans and you have a 6 pack you could use both coupons on your purchase. We like Miracle whip which is much cheaper at BJ'S than at a grocery store also we use a lot of ketchup so buying the ketchup only packs is saving us Id agree on the mix packs we usually have to ditch the mustard! You certainly have to pick and choose the products you buy at both warehouse and gorcers. Like to see a review on Lidles which will be opening up in our area soon.
You zeroed in so intently on what NOT TO BUY AT B.J.'S....your comments are true about ALL WHOLESALE CLUBS...not just B.J.'s.....the expiration dates and breakdowns in bleachers would be in every big box stores
This did seem weird to me also. It seems odd to say 'BJs' and not, "Don't buy cooking oil in bulk at a big box retailer". Does the oil at Costco have a longer expiration date? Are the condiment containers at Sam's Club smaller and cheaper?
Many families that go to warehouses have a lot of members...we have 8 people so some of this doesnt apply to us. I think it should be titled: what not to buy if you’re an average size family. 👍🏼😊
Interesting. I didn't know that bleach degraded after opening. Thanks! I'm a bjs employee. Another thing I never buy here is eggs. Not only are packages very large, but I can always find a better deal at a local grocery store. Bread is fine. They ate sold in 2 packs, so one loaf goes in the freezer. I've found some very good deals on canned goods. I don't buy those huge jugs of oil. Bjs is great for olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil. I agree with another employee about the produce. I also skip most of the pain relief/medication/supplement aisle. Most of that is cheaper elsewhere. TVs are usually the lowest price at BJs; especially on Black Friday.
As a current employee, I'll add produce. Coworker was the one to tell me they aren't great about the quality or proper storage. Also, the fresh salsa. Almost, if not every container I've seen is already going bad on the shelf. I think quality complaints are more valid than quantity and location complaints since everyone's situation is different.
All Do respect, Hogwash! I work for this company and i can tell you that the majority meaning except one can product this person mentioned ive yet seen at my store. The products sell sell sell. Agreat club to shop.
Most of the products you said, are the whole point of going to BJs. You should of just said if you only have a 2-4 person home Walmart will be good enough for your family needs.
TRASH BAGS: Berkley Jensen never buy. Price from 13 now is 19+ dollars, draw string now breaks and bag easily torn!!!! Buy GLAD or other named product.
AGREE! even better I find if you split boxes of diapers with a friend and then trade the ones with leftovers it goes even further. You can get a good 5 Uses out of them, just so neither party has fed the kid any leftover that is too acidic or too much of a watery consistency, like soup or pasta sauce, or certain dishes of Indian Chinese Thai or Eastern European Cuisines. I really like your videos on what to buy, but I think you missed the mark on the laundry, oil and can goods. I regularly watch local prices and the past savings in these items (compared to everyday prices) is bigger than membership cost. Note: if you do a best deal-their water softener salt is dollars cheaper than anyone else in my area.
Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to explain the parts of the video you didn’t like. I will keep that in mind and try to do better next video!
BJs sucks. The staff is often rude, the prices are higher than at Costco, and the food is often subpar. I used BJ for about 10 years, but after many negative experiences with management, line staff, bad food, etc, I switched to Costco. Totally different world. Costco staff are polite and professional. The locations have better prices on most items. The lines are also shorter than the lines at BJs.
It seems as if these are opinions based off your specific situation. People with large families, businesses, and others all buy these products because they have a use for them. I work for BJs and the biggest part in why people leave their membership is based on how they can’t use their products fast enough. So I think the title should reflect the audience your targeting because large groups of people love these items
Their meat department is usually very good. We buy their steaks and pork chops regularly. Just bought their beef tips and got 3 meals out of it. The bakery is good. Ive taken many of their pastries platters into work! *I feed a family of 3.
For like , making.meth ? Like on breaking bad? That’s awesome! Thank you. Where do you get the red phosphorus tho? (And you better be talkin bout.crystall.meth and NOT making explosives for like tearing down statues or blasting mt rushmore or something, but I’ll take you at your word!) thx happy 4th
I just recently joined their club. I'm also a member of the other two biggies, Cco and Sms. I've been pretty satisfied with most things I've bought there. But I gotta tell ya, their whole bean Colombian isn't all that. Bitter and stale was my reaction. IMHO Sms clubs whole bean coffee is superior in taste... ☕️☕️☕️☕️
As an employee I suggest you don’t buy any of the produce considering when Bad produce Is encountered an employee will take that in the back and take out the bad stuff which means they’re handling your fruits and vegetables with there be a hands
I just commented on your sams vs Costco video and said I only had a bjs 😂 I am new to your channel, so I just searched your channel and bjs and found this video. I am considering renewing my bjs membership, so this video is very helpful!! Thank you for sharing this. I usually get most of my household products such as laundry detergent, dish soap, etc, for very cheap using extra care bucks and coupons at CVS. I haven’t shopped cvs in months, but I am excited to get back to my coupons and deal shopping. Glad I found your channel! Have a great day!
I was doing so well until you got to the condiments! LOL But, in all fairness, my fiancée and I do go through an insane amount of BBQ sauce (we love chicken wings!), so I don’t feel too badly about it. :)
Idk why I just really don't like BJs. I love the prepared foods at Costco, they are a life saver. At BJs they taste horrible, and are often bad. I don't care for BJs brand compared to Kirkland. Sam's has some good deals, and their food is pretty good, but between Sam's and Costco I never have a need to go or find savings at BJs.
I don't know about 2 years ago but I took pictures of the 20 items i buy the most. I took pictures of pricing at bj's and local grocery stores. bj's beats them all.
@Eric Blake Man! You don’t know what you’re missin that’s for sure! Much Better than HJ’s But also better than the effort associated with going all the way , in my opinion. I ALWAYS buy the Arnold bread 2 for $5 at BJs. Regular price is $4.69 for one at grocery store. And then get a tank of gas. I'm good

Hey Matt, the recent videos about the stores have been amazing. Have saved my parents some money. Thank you.
Did we forget that wholesale places like BJS was ordinal intended for restaurants, hotels and other LARGE business's..
We shop on average twice a month, and fill car up after shopping.

Some of the can goods at BJs are good deals. Like buying 12 cans ravioli for nine dollars. Sorry there is no way your getting that cheaper at Walmart.
Great info, thanks! Could you please tell us what to buy at Aldi and Trader Joe’s? ❤️
