I wish someone would just make a visual map of bottlenecking comparing CPU, RAM, and GPU combinations for the three main use cases of high fps esports, "low" fps visual heavy games, and productivity work.
@@CyberneticArgumentCreator surely someone could make a database that generally matches components based on workload at least. I feel like so many people (myself included) make the mistake of balling out on the CPU and then getting a low-end GPU to fit the budget. Especially first-time builders.
are the differences between these three uses cases the reason why he suggested getting better faster ram for 1080p, and suggested staying at worse slower ram for 1440p? this was around @ 23:48 he suggested this and it confused me why he would say to get faster ram for a lower resolution 1080p. Seems to me like 1440p would be need better ram because it's higher resolution than 1080p.
@@paradigmshift7541 I'm not an expert but my understanding is that in general, your CPU is going to be doing more work when your frames are higher. That's because the GPU is supposedly not doing as much work and you're getting "bottlenecked" by the CPU. Of course this is super dependent on the use case. Typically the resolution is going to have the greatest impact on frame rate, hence why 1080p is going to be more CPU-bound than 1440p. If the CPU is the main constraint, faster ram will help out. My personal opinion however is that ram speed is mostly not a concern. 3200MHz ram is relatively cheap these days and it's more than enough to get you the performance you want.
your advice is 100% and helps people avoid making a huge mistake by wasting money on the wrong parts. Love your videos and advice Jason your a life saver !
Considering the current situation in the GPU market (especially outside the US) many people would probably be better off buying used. It may be worth suggesting both a new and a used GPU option in future builds if a used option is better than what is available new in the current market. It may also be worth suggesting used if they're in a country where a certain gpu that would be really good tends to be overpriced.
Great vid my man. I am currently parting out two pc's for a friend and my cousin which I'll be building very soon. Videos like these really help, even those that have years of experience can benefit from this.
this month i decided its time for an upgrade and im proud to say that my configuration was the exact same as you did in you video 8 months ago. ryzen 7 5800x3d , tuf 570x mobo, ripjaws 4x8gb , samsung 980 pro ssd and i added 2tb barracuda hdd for general storage ( allready have 3080ti , 1050W psu ) i get it on 3.1. cant wait for it to arrive
nice builds!! im just amazed how cheaper the things are in the USA, the Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X here in europe cost 230€, 20% more expensive, the 13600kf is 355€, so the same build here will be 400/500€ more expensive.. but im looking to upgrade my setup, currently i have as 9700k, asus z390 f gaming (the rest if fine) and i want a CPU+MB to par with my 3080. the problem is the CPU's are so expensive here, the 12700k is 455€ and i dont want to talk about the 13700k. love your videos, take care

I build PCs and I'm wondering why you haven't popped and propped all the great AMD CPUs available with faster and more efficient performance. I do both AMD and Intel depending on the customer's budget. Also, the AMD gpu s are a steal right now considering NVIDIA's reluctance to bring prices down. Stay away from the AM5 socket mobos and the 4000 series gpu s for now (build returns are at an all time high right now). Market prices are about to take fall in favor of the buyers in the market this year within the first to second quarter. Really enjoyed your video but think you can tone down the "excitement" aspect with a little less in arm, face and hand gestures (chuckles). Thanks for your hard work. It's appreciated. 23:51 I have a question about RAM for 1080p vs 1440p, maybe someone can help clarify I'm slightly confused on this. Why would a person need to buy better ram for 1080p gaming when it's harder to power 1440p gaming? If 1080p is lower resolution, why would a person need to buy BETTER ram than for 1440p gaming? As a test case, if I get 240fps at 1080p, wouldn't I need to get better ram to achieve the same 240fps at 1440p? Some clarification please this is really bothering my brain!!
I saw the Thermalright cooler lineup last year and fell in love with the price to performance. Prices have gone up some, but still I would absolutely use a Peerless Assassin, or any one of a half dozen other good coolers they have. Vetroo does pretty good too with price to performance, but Thermalright is my favorite underapriciated CPU Cooler maker.
The ASRock RX 6600 Challenger D 8GB review is one of my most viewed videos! I still have 2 units in my lab and they're really great value for money even today. (and 2023!)
I think its in their technology. GPU fans nowadays don't spin until the GPU goes 60 degrees celsius and above. The fans turn on for 2 seconds because that's when the pc boots up.
Most modern GPUs have a zero fan speed setting by default so if they don't need the fans they don't turn them on. Jump into a game and see if they spin.
I wouldn't touch DDR4-3600 on 12th gen Intel locked cpus because the memory controller often can't handle that speed since you can't add any extra voltage on locked cpus. To get around this your board's BIOS will sometimes drop to Gear 2 when you're trying to run 3600 MT/s speeds, which cuts the speed of the memory controller in half and slows you way down. Much better to buy DDR4-3200 which is officially supported so you can just turn on the XMP profile and forget it. Was a pain having to manually tune my DDR4-3600 to DDR4-3200 and set all the timings since my i5-12400F's memory controller could not handle the DDR4-3600 XMP profile of my RAM in Gear 1 without crashing when I stress tested it with 7-zip compressing and decompressing 4-8GB files.

Hi! Quick question on mobo sound cards. I have a Focusrite audio interface for music production. Am I correct in saying that the Focusrite acts as the sound card, bypassing my mobos sound card (assuming I have the driver and am outputting to the focusrite), meaning I don't need to worry about what the mobos quality is in that arena? My build: MSI Pro B550M-VC Ryzen 5600X Radeon 6600 (bonus: I saw you said 6600XT was a minimum for 2K gaming - is it a big difference between these two? I could return and upgrade. Playing star citizen, KSP, RTS's). Corsair 650W 32GB RAm Peerless Assassin Cooler
Nice save J. I was going to buy the Gigabyte Aorus pro AX motherboard to pair with the i5 12400. I didn't have a clue about the audio. Is the MSI MAG b660m mortar wifi the better alternative to the Gigabyte?
If you really want to light up your build, fans are the best option. You get highlights from RAM or GPU but the fans are where the nice glow comes from. I know white cases are in but a dark case with tinted glass makes the lighting sharp without bathing your desk in light. Most white cases don't have tinted glass. Of course this is all my opinion
Hi Jason! Would love to see some of these with used parts, I do think there’s some merit especially in the GPU space to budget for a used card (if you’re savvy enough and don’t mind dodging the potholes)! Thanks for the great videos, I feel like I learn something new all the time!
what would you say about a 7600x + future 7700xt or 6700xt? gpu pricing is really insane here like even if i drop from 7600x to 5600x which i dont think is sensible because all that money i save can only help me buy a 3070 ti instead of a 6700xt which is a much worse upgrade than 5600x to 7600x imo. what do you think?
2nd Build could save more if we discard the Windows 11 dvd. Windows 11 is technically free, you can buy a key for cheap and voila! Saving 90 bucks that could get you the K processor.
This. And Microsoft has even started that buying global individual keys is legal. I don't know if they want us to, of course but I don't care what publicly traded companies want.

Hello Jason, I bought a MoBo for my daughter with a sub-par audio codec (Gaming-X V2). Too late to return it. Could you make suggestions for an add-in sound card, equal to or better than the 1220s or newer equivalent that won't break the bank. She is a music connoisseur so I am sure she will notice if it's worse than her last board. Thanks
I'm looking to upgrade the 1660 ti I have paired with a i5 9600kf/z390 for only 1080p resolution. From the research I've done for the resolution a 3060 would be about 6% cpu bottleneck, a 2060 super would be a good match with about a 3% cpu bottleneck, or the best pairing I found was a gtx 1080 which had no bottleneck at all with both cpu/gpu utilizing 100% (theoretically). What do you think would be the better choice? I'm leaning toward the 3060 because it would still give me about 93% gpu utilization and I get a newer card, also my i5 is oc'd @5.17ghz.

I have time to wait some months before i buy anything if thats the best. this is my first build. watching tens of hours of video over the last couple years ha but never got as close to building as i am now. i am planning on buying used, and my budget is around 700 dollars, maybe 750 or more if really worth it. i have a 4k 60 hz monitor. i am not sure whether it supports 1440p resolution but that is my target. I am gaming, browsing the web only. I have the budget for a 4-5k system in the future but I just want to dip my feet and wait some years before ddr5 and pcie 5 advance. Any advice on which way you might go? your insight would be appreciated! i recently subscribed since i like the way you consolidate information and teach real world application with that information. btw what a great deal on that 6750 xt and psu, i cant find it anymore :( but good to know there are deals here and there
A truely great episode 💪😱🥳🎉🎊 Jason! Some amazing value and awesome fps from these optimised builds 😇🤤. I love these “boosted builds” episodes and can’t wait for them.

I wish someone would just make a visual map of bottlenecking comparing CPU, RAM, and GPU combinations for the three main use cases of high fps esports, "low" fps visual heavy games, and productivity work.
Every software task is different, there's no simple rule of thumb for it.
Thanks so much for the awesome feedback!
Really great content and awesome enthusiasm. I've been enjoying your channel and your delivery style. Thanks for not boring us like some channels.
Thank you for the awesome feedback! It really means a lot. Hope you keep enjoying the content!
I already built my first PC and these videos were really helpful. Even though I already got my PC, these videos are still interesting to watch.
Good suggestions! Thank you
It's pretty crazy in some countries for example I could buy 3 ps5's new for the price of a 4080 in Australia.
Great vid my man. I am currently parting out two pc's for a friend and my cousin which I'll be building very soon. Videos like these really help, even those that have years of experience can benefit from this.
what an incredible channel, extremely organized and enlightening!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the feedback (:
this month i decided its time for an upgrade and im proud to say that my configuration was the exact same as you did in you video 8 months ago. ryzen 7 5800x3d , tuf 570x mobo, ripjaws 4x8gb , samsung 980 pro ssd and i added 2tb barracuda hdd for general storage ( allready have 3080ti , 1050W psu )
i get it on 3.1. cant wait for it to arrive
nice builds!! im just amazed how cheaper the things are in the USA, the Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X here in europe cost 230€, 20% more expensive, the 13600kf is 355€, so the same build here will be 400/500€ more expensive.. but im looking to upgrade my setup, currently i have as 9700k, asus z390 f gaming (the rest if fine) and i want a CPU+MB to par with my 3080. the problem is the CPU's are so expensive here, the 12700k is 455€ and i dont want to talk about the 13700k. love your videos, take care
I love the cat pics in ur videos, they just add so much personality.
You remind me so much of my french teacher back in high school :p
So glad to hear it! We enjoy them (;
would you reccomend a 7900 xtx with a ryzen 7700x CPU? or would the CPU bottleneck the gpu
A 7700x would work on a 4090. So that could mean It would go as well with the 7900 xtx.
Amazing video, Jason! I have been dreaming of building my PC the past 6 months, spent around 200 hours researching and revising every component, scrapping my ready builds for 5 times already and going a completely different way XD. Now Im more or less certain with what build I want, already got a Lian Li o11 Dynamic Mini Snow version, love the case. But as for the other items, how could I send my setup to you so that You could review it? I would just hate to know that I made a mistake after so many hours of research.
Thanks for your videos! I have been watching you probably the most compared to other PC youtubers, you just make your videos super beginner-friendly and really thorough.
So glad you are enjoying the excited for your build! We don't take DMs or do private build checks (we get dozens of requests a day and it's too much for our two cat two person team to handle). But you are welcome to submit a build to our next Boost My Build video in January and I do recommend posting to PC Part Picker forums for more support
I like being nice to people so if you put your setup here I can quickly look at it and see if I notice anything.

Can you see any potential bottle necking with my set up? I am not a Gamer, I tend to have a lot of things open at the same time and wanted a modern Rig.
I upgraded my CPU to the i5 12400f, the question is now. What is the difference between the B660M and without M? Can someone explain pls
hey guys no idea where to ask this kinda question but would the i9-13900k, MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WIFI, G.Skill Trident Z5 DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR5-6400, CL32-39-39-102 work together?
Absolutely, yeah. I'd now worry about the GPU you want to buy or you already have it.

Hey Jason!! Loving these boosted builds, I’ve watched and learned from so many that I don’t even think mine could even offer good content anymore! Looking to start building my first PC all thanks to your incredible guides!
Also, just to point something out to everyone, the Gigabyte 6750 XT was on sale last month, and is now back to US$450. Real shame as I was looking to get it too, but Newegg charges a *lot* for shipping to Hawaii so I’ll have to stick with Amazon.
Fantastic! So glad we could help. And thanks for sharing! Frustrating that Newegg charges so much for shipping
This pure truth just grabbed me so I subbed real quick, don't know how I missed this wonderful channel, cheers and happy new years, so good to listen to an adult.

I love this "boost your build" series, it's fantastic! Thank you for doing this man! I'd love to get on on it at some point.
Hello Jason! I love your pc building video and critical analysis for us to choose best value for money. I really love your painstakingly reply all the comments, I would like to I’m building a pc with i5 13500 with Asus rog B660-f, will the motherboard fail to make the cpu work on boost frequency indefinitely, do I need to for B760? Will you please suggest 10:50
HAPPY YEARS EVE i love your videos jason
I'm doing cartwheels cuz ya got me so excited!
18:00 question about that Kingston NV2, I read on Tomshardware, reddit and more reviews that this is the worst ssd that you can get even tho it’s budget.. Is it safe to get that ssd?
23:51 I have a question about RAM for 1080p vs 1440p, maybe someone can help clarify I'm slightly confused on this. Why would a person need to buy better ram for 1080p gaming when it's harder to power 1440p gaming? If 1080p is lower resolution, why would a person need to buy BETTER ram than for 1440p gaming? As a test case, if I get 240fps at 1080p, wouldn't I need to get better ram to achieve the same 240fps at 1440p?
Some clarification please this is really bothering my brain!!
12:47 why add the windows key when you had an ad for a windows digital key in the beginning its 99$
The last build is in line what I am looking for. Many thanks.
(and 2023!)
On the second build, I don't understand why he's locked to Intel and nvidia if he's paying for it.
I’m building my first pc right now and the gpu fans don’t start until when I turn off the pc when the fans turn on for 2 seconds
How about pairing DDR4-3600 with Ryzen 5 5600? Does it cause the same problem?
@@emssi3109 I don't think so, I think Ryzen you can up the voltage to the memory controller if needed.
Which motherboard would you recommend for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D

Is a Ryzen 5 5500 and a rx 6800 a good combo?
No. You'd want to jump up to the 5600 or you could go down on the GPU.
question i recently did a pc upgrade. 8600cpu with a rtx3080
now we forgot to do ram but i still have my ddr4 2133mhz 16gb. half my friends say this and that
dont upgrade it. duplicate it buy another 2x8gb ddr4 2133mhz way better.
the other half say dont do that. buy new and better one 3000mhz same brand.
so whats better? i dont have any knowledge on my ram sadly and im getting so much conflicting stuff.

Isn't h610 enough for i3 12100f why should we looking for b660 ?
B660 is for upgrade paths. H610 is when you don't have upgrade path or staying on the lower end side.
@@rogued3mon414 low tier b660 like ds3h also have no future proofing, it can't even run 12400f on full potential. So I think sticking to h610 is enough

How are these prices so low? In Europe the RX 6750xt costs almost double.
I'm wondering is there a point that getting a $40 sounds card to compensate for a motherboard with poor on board audio makes sense?
My build:
MSI Pro B550M-VC
Ryzen 5600X
Radeon 6600 (bonus: I saw you said 6600XT was a minimum for 2K gaming - is it a big difference between these two? I could return and upgrade. Playing star citizen, KSP, RTS's).
Corsair 650W
32GB RAm
Peerless Assassin Cooler
ah ha! Just seeing this now and saw you found your answer in another video. Glad we could help! (:
Merry Christmas to you and yours specially to Mr. Bear!
Could you tell me if the 5700X would handle a rtx 4060 in the future?
Nice save J. I was going to buy the Gigabyte Aorus pro AX motherboard to pair with the i5 12400. I didn't have a clue about the audio.
Is the MSI MAG b660m mortar wifi the better alternative to the Gigabyte?
Yes, actually if you're going MATX size.

Yes! Good choice

Is there a problem using a micro atx motherboard in a micro atx case
Why add win 11 on a DVD when there's no optical drive and you can get it cheaper elsewhere?
Love your energy! And the cat pics!

The eSports department, being at a university, can get free/almost free Windows keys, I assume. If you remove that and swap to a 13400F, ASUS PRIME Z690-P, Silverstone essential 750W Gold, and a $55 Fractal Design Focus G, you can come in at $1450 with a Gigabyte GAMING OC 3070Ti. That's a pretty large performance boost overall as an option.

From what resolution should we consider 8 cores? It seems to me that the 5000 series are superb with only 6cores
Hey how much of a bottleneck am I gonna get if I run a 5700g and a rx 6600, msi b550 edge, single 16gb ram 3200mhz? Developing for unreal engine. Budged is not more than $580

Hi can I ask for advice? What should I upgrade?
My PC config is:
Motherboard: Asrock B450M Pro4F
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700
GPU: zotac GTX 980 Ti
RAM: Aegis 64GB DDR4-3000Mhz
got some little SSD and NVme drives
I build the PC some time age mainly for productivity use, so I needed much CPU cores and much RAM (for Zbrush and Video Editing)
I wonder If I can put an Ryzen 5900X or 5950X on this motherboard and how much would be bottlenecked by the 3000Mhz DDR4
a newer GPU would be nice too
I know some people are suspicious, but buying GPU’s off of ebay if you are careful and making sure you’re buying off of trusted sellers can get you some amazing deals. I managed to get an rx6700 xt for $260 after watching for a while and it’s been working amazingly!
I'm building a new PC and need a OS. If I use the website mentioned for a CD key how would that work with installing windows 11? I emailed the address on their website but It come back undeliverable.

Glad you like them!
I’ve got a 3070 and a new 5800x3d, I need to upgrade my gpu in order to achieve max performance with that cpu right? 1080p 240hz
Don't upgrade the GPU. 3070 is good for 1080p 240hz but depends on the game and the graphic settings.
