Lemmo plays the most beautiful, musical, inspiring demos here in YT land in my opinion. Highly underrated player.
Agreed. His technique and range of styles is mind blowing.
That ending got me on loop mode
He developed a great style with hard work its a unique sound.
How is he underrated ffs
Oh man. What a guitar and what a bit of playing. Definitely up there with one of the best ever demos. Killer!
i’m not the biggest fan of gretsch guitars, but lemmo makes anything and everything sound amazing. not to mention how that finish has held up over time, looks nearly brand new. definitely a special piece
honestly don’t know what’s more inspiring, those demo plays or that gorgeous guitar, wonderful stuff
I'm a tele man through and through but I think I just fell hard for this absolutely beautiful hunk of wood, the tone of this beauty is just devastatingly awesome.
No offence and even though a lot of my guitar heros/faves played teles I despise them immensely.
Even my fave Solar Guitars have a T and i know it’s gonna be stellar especially with Solar’s take on it ?
Naa.
Not for me.
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
The first bit shows how you don't need twang to make a Gretsch sound great. Nice playing as always Lemmo.
For an almost 70 year old *white* guitar, that thing looks incredible.
Quite possibly the best guitar of the day ever.
Totally agree!!
Great guitar but greater guitarist.
Total respect to this amazing musician.
What a beauty and I’m talking about the guitar! But Lemmo plays it beautifully!
Something about this demo is special. Stands out. Subtle. Artful.
That guitar is magical. Excellent musicianship too.
The White Penguin: Sacred bird of prey!
:-)
Seriously, a Dream Guitar.
Michael you sure can play those strings man. And Jen captures it all. Thanks so much ❤️
Absolutely an amazing guitar, and who better than Lemo to explore the tone possibilities....you the Man Micheal✌️
What was that second tune he played? This guys playing is SO inspiring
You bring class to even the Gretch! Mikey can play, huh? Yes sirry
Look at mikey showing off that right hand with his finger picking and playing with a pick at the same time , nice work Michael. Hey someone call Brian, he may be interested in that Gretsch. 🤘🏼
Great!!! Old as me and in better shape.
Always steered clear of Gretches,,,,,maybe it was the gal on the cover of 'The Popular Chet Atkins'. I was like 5 in '62.
Annette i loved,,,,this gal scared me away.
ha, i never had the chops but Lemmo does.
Rock on!
Its hard to say I'd want this setup over a new car, but still would be a close choice!
Loved Michael’s playing! Made that Gretch sound like a million bucks! Thanks Lemmo! For the sweet and tasteful playing! The camera work was excellent great zooms and close ups thanks Jenn! You guys are the best!
It’s been a while since I’ve closed my eyes, listening. I usually try to see the licks….wow.
I believe that White Penguin is stereo. The bridge pickup has no polepieces on the bass side, and the neck pickup has no polepieces on the treble side. With a stereo cord and two amplifiers, and the output selector (the switch on the cutaway) in the correct position, you’ll have the bass strings coming through one amp and the treble strings coming through the other. I’ll bet Chet Atkins suggested that! What the other position(s) on the switch do I don’t know-obviously one is mono, because that’s the way Michael’s playing it. Sounds great! And stereo Penguins are even rarer than mono ones.
Fine sounding Gretsch with such lovely understated guitar for a Sunday morning when I should be in church! So glad Norm is looking so well and strong! Thank God we old guys keep-a-going ...
I’m not gonna lie I own one of the replicas but Michael put me in a trance I was doing stuff but had to sit watch and listen. I was mad when the video was over! We need to keep this in the shoo for him to play more
Jesus Lemmo, you are a freakin virtuoso...always amazing, there aren't many guys out here who can play such a wide range of genres with such skill and soul.
Wow, the hybrid picking section around 6:00 onward is next level.
Wonderful to hear such a beautiful guitar, played so beautifully! Thank you!
this player is unbelievably good
Awesome playing my friend. Beautiful tones displayed. Very inspiring. Thanks
Beautiful playing Michael!! Nice guitar too!🎉😊
Beauty Demo, sound and playing. Well done!
The essence of cool...would look great next to my white falcon!!!!
Great guitar great demo Lemmo, ! Thank you Norm and Jen !
WOOOOOOW. What a sound.... Great playing Michael... Fantastic Amp. Clear but warm and complex.
Wow guys that’s beautiful. What a survivor!!
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
This dude is my favorite living guitar player. Absolute monster.
Beautiful Mike. Tears of joy
Wow! Talk about a holy grail guitar. Stupid rare too. It’s so cool to see these type of guitars turn up out of the blue.
Great demo of that incredibly cool and beautiful guitar.
Gorgeous guitar and gorgeous playing
sooooo mellow sounding. shout out to that hybrid picking on the last cut
It has a very unique sound
This is an incredible guitar -- Norm is so understated. There are fewer than 50 white penguins, even fewer with a Bigsby. This is probably a $200k+ guitar!
Nicely done❤
oh wow!!! it's Amazing!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Michael!
That tone! Good lordie!
Rare and beautiful one..cool demo👍
what a amazing guitar thanks Norm
Beautiful GreTsch...incredible playing!
That's a really great guitar.
Great Playing Michael!!!
An inspirational performance by Lemmo. An interesting guitar. Kind of on the heavier side but nicely contrasted by that ebony fretboard and pickups
Is there a modern reissue or equivalent given I can’t afford this beauty.
Nice playing Mr Lemmo.
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
They do still make them and they are unfeasibly beautiful
@@timdunn2344 thx man
Cheers
Yes, its called the gretsch vintage select 58 penguin, built exactly like the old one
@@JohnnyFriendly thx.
Nice combination especially by one so gifted on the guitar.
I think this is the first White pinguin they’ve ever done
Dude lemmo crushing extra today
Some of the best plating bro. Beautiful
Wonderful playing my man
I shudder to think what it's price will be!
Back in '73, I found one of these in a pawn shop for $350. However; I was a poor college student and couldn't even manage $3.50........
How many holy grails does Norm have ? Sheesh !
Randy Bachman had a huge collection of Gretch guitars. Nice sound
Wonderful guitar & wonderful playing..bravo !
Amazing as always, Lemmo!
Beautiful playing.
Nice melodies man ;)
what a warm sound i think thats a 200 k guitar
I say more than that
usually see the penguines from 80 to 150k@@Eric-nn9xf
Great songs, Lemmo.
nice sounding axe, smoooth as yer like.
thank you its a fab axe.
Beautiful guitar, but Rockabilly Mike is fast becoming one of my favourite players

So bad you don't mike the amp with such beatiful guitars and Lemmo playing..
On ya Rockabilly Mike🎸🎸
Gretsch guitars are freakin cool. Definitely don't get the recognition they deserve. Lemmo kicked ass on this one
i love lemmo repping philly all the time so much
would really like to hear mike push that amp to the edge of breakup with the danish Pete pedal... Good job lemmo.
Rockabilly Mike, The King of Bling
White Penguin, only seen em in books.
Wow 😱
I hear less than 50 were made. Which makes them rarer than original Gibson les Paul Bursts. David Gilmour had an original white penguin.
This is a Project-O-Sonic stereo version. That's why the pole pieces are only on half of each pickup and there is a selector switch where there is usually a master volume pot. The two other selectors are both three-way tone selectors ("mud switches"), one for each pickup. These guitars have more tonal flexibility when run in stereo, but you can get a clear trebly tone in mono with both tone selectors in the middle position.
Isn’t one of those switches the pickup selector?
@@jfinester No. As mentioned, the paired switches are three-way tone controls, one for each pickup. The other switch routes the signal in three ways: both pickups through one amp; both pickups through two amps; "bass" (neck) pickup through one amp and "treble" (bridge) pickup through a second amp for true stereo. The two pickups function like one big split pickup; there is no selecting between them in the usual manner. You can dial down one or the other with the volume pots, or modify the volume and tone of each at their respective amps.
Thanks. Cool review......
This one sounds dark. I wonder if the tone switch has been messed with…in the middle position there shouldn’t be any treble rolloff.
Still, a super rare guitar!
You know yt compresses the sound don’t you?
I think they recorded the Amp with bad mic-position/angle. So we can't hear the true treble of the guitar here on YT.
@@mattmorris2867 Yes, I do. I’m comparing what I’m hearing from this guitar to loads of other demos from Norm’s YT channel and also from my own experience playing & listening to Gretsch guitars with Filter’trons.
@@davidkieltyka9Theres so many variables that you really need to hear it in person. As with any guitar.
Lovely playing ! What exact Rivera amp is this ? Sounds so good even at low volume !
Beautiful playing! What’s that tuning and first song you played.
Awsome thats what happens whit practice.
SENOR LEMMO what a great guitarista! Very KEWEL GITTAR as well!!!
I agree with them I love the simple playing
awesome👍👋
Wow 👌
Been loving hearing that last piece lemmo played. A tab anywhere?
Wish I had the talent in Lemmo's pinky,
wow
The star of the show here is actually the player. The Penguin is still cool, though.
More Michael on the Penguin, unless that's Mr. Setzer calling on Norm's courtesy line.
Lemmo at his best.
That is a weird bridge, how do you set intonation on that??
