Can we get a video devoted to Felix Mendelssohn?! Don't forget his songs without words "lost illusions"! Felix Mendelssohn was actually the most celebrated of his time, yes, but unfortunately Wagner and the Nazi's distorted his legacy due to him growing up as a Jew.
Lili Boulanger was an outstanding young composer. She is by far my favourite female composer. Her premature death in 1918 was a great loss for music. Her sister, Nadia, lived a long life, however, and was a accomplished teacher and conductor.
It's a shame she died so young, considering the amount of recognition she did get, which wasn't a lot but was sitll a substantial amount, she would've been one of the 'greats'
Incredible shades of music. Musical pictures of each of these beautiful women. Lily Boulanger. Feelings of sadness. Fanny Mendelssohn. Dance and song of her revealed talent and soul. Clara Schumann. A vision of drama and tragic moments throughout her life. Pauline Viardot. Joy and pride. Life turned out to be successful. I'm amazed.
I've noticed that already with your previous video about female composers, but I'm surprised this time again to see this many French names. I had no idea my country was home to so many talented women, I've only ever learnt about men and it's a shame. It's a thing to be curious and educate yourself, and look for other composers than the mainstream ones, including female ones. But it should be standard to teach about how women can and did compose as well, not only Clara Schumann. 😔 So many hidden gems that are waiting for people to discover and enjoy them.
I'm noticed that some people think it is alright to post comments that are discriminatory towards women. We can do much better than this here. The internet should be a safe place for women and minority groups to express themselves and to receive the recognition they deserve. If you don't like a piece or composer, that is completely understandable, but if you are going to put down women, and say they are less accomplished, or that they don't belong in classical music repertoire, then that is truly a shame. Of course, it is also understandable to acknowledge that it was much more difficult for women to pursue music and to receive a decent education in the past. What makes so many female composers exceptional, is that they defied this double standard and worked incredibly hard to become acknowledged.
The discrimination i see in the comments aren't malicious, just bad opinions. it's not about equality; I love several, several female composers music, but objectively, the more prolific males in music history are greater in terms of skill and impact. Not to say female composers were not good, but the reason they didn't get that recognition they deserve was because of the moral integrity at the time they were alive. That's when the discrimination was evident, not some youtube commenter saying "yeah, but they aren't as good as the men", it's just fact that male composers were more substantial and held greater technical ability. Noone is bashing the music because of the fact they are females, at least generally, it's because the men did it better, that simple. Once again, composers like Syzmanowska and most definitely Lili, are in my top 20 at least.
@@mariki06 thanks for clarifying. I have ASD, so sometimes I take what other people say too literally. When they said that x female composer is not as good as male composers, I thought they meant inherently, and not due to circumstances. Still I would like people to use clearer, less ambiguous language when they say that.
It is a shame, but it's also a shame that thousands of male composers also had their work ignored or forgotten about. We remember Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, etc, but these composers are exceptions. The overwhelmingly majority of music written throughout history is either lost or forgotten about.
You know when you get that feeling of overload euphoria, overload confidence, overload awe, overload amazement, and overload how-the-heck-did-I-not-know-about-this-earlier? That's what Clara Schumann's Praeludien gave me when I first heard this in this video, all wrapped up in a tight package with a nice bow. 😁😁😁😁😁
clara schumann was probably the greatest composer/pianist of all time (yes even better than chopin). happy to see a popular piano channel show her music
I'm not sure if i agree that she is necessarily better than Chopin, but I think she deserves at least as much, if not more recognition than her husband, Robert Schumann. I'm not sure whether you are saying if she is a better pianist or composer than Chopin. It’s all quite subjective who we think is better
The only interesting ones are Boulanger and Pejacevic, the rest are not particularly impressive, which is perhaps why they aren't considered great composers. Boulanger and Pejacevic on the other hand had the possibility of being a first rate but died too early.

@@happypiano4810 Well, that doesn't matter. A composer's music usually doesn't deteriorate due to death or illness, in fact I argue a lot of them wrote some of their greatest works during these times (e.g. Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Prokofiev etc.)
