11:23 The Lone Ranger rides again! One of the most famous tv themes ever, thanks to Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868), in his "William Tell Overture", 1829, last of his 39 operas. Finale: "The March of the Swiss Soldiers" (4th, final movement). It alludes to the final act, which recounts the Swiss soldiers' victorious battle to liberate their homeland from Austrian repression. Although there are no horses or cavalry charges in the opera, this segment is often used in popular media to denote galloping horses, a race, or a hero riding to the rescue. Its most famous use in that respect is as the theme music for The Lone Ranger; that usage has become so famous that the term "intellectual" has been defined as "a man who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger." The almost as well-known 3rd movement, "Ranz des vaches" has the pastoral after-the-storm two minutes, often used in animated cartoons to signify daybreak or bucolic beauty, most notably in Walt Disney's The Old Mill and Marv Newland's Bambi Meets Godzilla, which uses the tune as its main musical score before Godzilla stomps on Bambi. ruclips.net/video/xoBE69wdSkQ/видео.html 2nd movement "Storm" (at 3:12), 3rd movement "Ranz des vaches" (at 6:10), 4th movement "The March of the Swiss Soldiers" (at 8:45). The whole Overture is only 12 minutes long!
It shouldn't be a ranking, though. II felt like I did know the first ones and last ones better than many in the middle....The idea of a Top 10 or 15 of best classics is actually realistic because those everyone knows, whether other ones would deserve a place or not, but there are in my opinion, too many famous music pieces at the bottom (I shouldn't take it too seriously, but somehow I'm not happy with the ranking....)

This is a list of 100 most famous classical music pieces, not 100 best pieces. Chopin's pieces are maby good, but most of them are not well known among non musicians. However, his Funeral March is No. 36 in this list.
Jewela Chopin is my favorite composer but I have to admit his pieces might only be popular among pianists because he wrote almost exclusively for it, if he has written many orchestral works they would be on top of everything because he is such a genius, BUT, i expected some of his most famous pieces like his first Waltz, Minute Waltz, Second Nocturne and a bunch of others
I agree. I also got to know many classical music from them. When I hear pieces like "The Barber of Seville", images of Bugs and Elmer would come to mind.

Its most famous use in that respect is as the theme music for The Lone Ranger; that usage has become so famous that the term "intellectual" has been defined as "a man who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger." The almost as well-known 3rd movement, "Ranz des vaches" has the pastoral after-the-storm two minutes, often used in animated cartoons to signify daybreak or bucolic beauty, most notably in Walt Disney's The Old Mill and Marv Newland's Bambi Meets Godzilla, which uses the tune as its main musical score before Godzilla stomps on Bambi.
ruclips.net/video/xoBE69wdSkQ/видео.html
2nd movement "Storm" (at 3:12), 3rd movement "Ranz des vaches" (at 6:10), 4th movement "The March of the Swiss Soldiers" (at 8:45). The whole Overture is only 12 minutes long!

Dmitri Potter Shostakovich looks like Harry Potter
wouldn't it be the other way around?
hence the nickname. or did u really think he was actually named Dmitri POTTER Shostakovich?
@Bruh moment Lol if he's a kid with Harry Potter and modern music as his only religion, I wouldn't be overly surprised

kind of disappointing that CHOPIN IS BASICALLY NONEXISTENT on this list...
This is a list of 100 most famous classical music pieces, not 100 best pieces. Chopin's pieces are maby good, but most of them are not well known among non musicians. However, his Funeral March is No. 36 in this list.
It will happen one day.
What about Nocturne Op. 9 No 2.

I agree. I also got to know many classical music from them. When I hear pieces like "The Barber of Seville", images of Bugs and Elmer would come to mind.
And Tom and Jerry
The sounds of Disney.
How nostalgic!
Don't forget Ren and Stimpy also!
