"Distant Early Warning," "Sure Know Something," "Starlight," "Wrathchild," "War Pigs"....nice selection of tunes!
I heard Doug Wimbish using them with Living Colour last month, they sounded amazing.
Trace Elliot is the brand for me. I've played all the big name amps, and still - none of them hit my ear with the tone I want out of my bass except TE. Their latest line up from Peavey seems great as always, but I think they should make a couple of in-between offerings (between ELF & 1200). Maybe a 300W / 600W in both head/ combo packages. But that's just me, an obsessed TE advocate for years...
NICE!! kicked it off with a lil KISS...Sure know something....sounds killer !! I have an ELF that I love!! Great to see Trace Elliot Again!
The ELF is so convenient, not the most powerful ever but can keep up for practice/jamming just fine through a decent cab
doesn't seem like trace elliot without that graphic eq but i'm just glad trace elliot is back every product i've used by them in the past has sounded fantastic.
You forgot the UV-light … this was iconic😉 but I totally agree with you 👍
Unfortunately... This has nothing to do with the original Mark Gooday Trace Elliot products back in the days. I was using them, AH-250UV head + 1048 + 1518 cabs, have also the TE Combo 1110, I really love their products, again, back in the days. So, this new products are just some PEAVEY stuff inside, the only thing related to Trace Elliot is the name written in green and nothing else, don't be fooled just by a name. The sound signature is also totally different than the one we had in the 90s. Trace Elliot was a very good company, when Mark Gooday left the company to creat Ashdown Engineering, I was also very disappointed by their production. Today I'm playing on stage with Mark Bass tube amps and 104HF/HR boxes + Glockenklang Blue Bird + Glokenklang Quattro 4x10" boxes.
Dang. That post-eq DI sounds straight up delicious.
The 2X12 has a Coax speaker and an angled baffle on the top. The logo can be rotated and the cabinets can be used vertically and horizontally. The best combination is using a 410 and and the 212, sounds incredible. You mention the EQ - what you didn't mention is the EQ is very different from most other bass amps. Trace has always used a Gyrator EQ Circuit - what is a gyrator EQ? "Originally designed to emulate the characteristics of an active inductor EQ (think Neve, API), the Gyrator EQ uses a rather clever combination of an amplifier, resistors and capacitors to accomplish incredibly smooth and musical frequency modifications." That is the SAME EQ circuit as was used when the amps had a "graphic" eq. 100% Trace and very different than other amplifiers. - and yes I work for Trace :) Thanks for the great review :) We love BASS and The BASS CHANNEL!
Thanks for the additional info for our viewers! We did mention that the EQ points themselves were new to us, at least =0)
That's what I've always loved about the Trace line of products... the engineering that went into all of their product design. They always seem to tailor the sound ( scientifically ) to the next level be it the amps or the cabs... I've just always seen the brand in their way. There are bass amps out there (and really good ones too), and there is TE...💚
Trace Elliot are the only solid state amps I've played that respond and sing like tube amps. The old series 5 and 6 ones though, not sure about these yet
Happy New Year Dave. I'm lovin' the Space Invaders shirt.
LOL thanks Norm - psssst it's Galaga!
It is a fact of physics that doubling an amplifier's power only increases perceived volume by 3dB; where a decibel is the smallest incremental increase in sound the human ear is able to discern. The only real advantage to 'more' power is greater headroom: you can produce a cleaner signal with lower 'unwanted' distortion. That's great in a full range audio system, but in general, people 'want' instrumental amplifiers to break up in a controlled fashion at volume!
trace elliott has been producing some fine products last couple of years. the brand hasn't been what it was before the peavey take-over though. they've lost a certain something. this new amp seems fine and vesatile, though what i can hear from the demo, to me it sounds like the thing i would expect from a TE amp is not quite there. still seems like a solid product though 😊
Finally an amp with a two-band compressor. The pre/post comp eq button is great too, as well as the footswitch. But I don't really understand why they've felt the need to put that many watts into this, given it's also rather heavy compared to modern standards. I think they should do lighter 300-800w versions of this too, to attract a broader audience.
what Fender PJ is being used in this video ? its not listed in the basses used . the seafoam green one
I’d love to hear your guys thoughts on Barefaced if you ever get your hands on one
Heyyo! I tried reaching out to them and they ignored me 🤷🏻♂️ sorry!
😢
Those cabs look really great and sound promising. Wow! But I do not see enough benefits to swap my ampeg 610 hlf for one.
Which do you think is more versatile cab, the trace elliot 2x12 or the darkglass 2x12?
I have the trace Elliot elf 200 watt
Had an Elf myself for awhile, it was fantastic for an uber-portable rig!
Was going to comment on the outSTANDING songs played in the demos but I'm a bit late to the party.
Only thing missing for me is a pre-gain clip light
Like #34th... Thanks for your video 😀👍
are there no UV LEDs in 2023/24? With this light the amp would probably achieve its previous successes
? So that cab is 8 ohm...does this mean you were getting run out of the room with (only) 600w rms? :) with 2 - 8 ohm cabs, that's when you'd get the full 1200w rms ouch. Talk about feeling confident lols. Thanx 4 the review
At 8 ohms it's still pumping put over 800W actually!
Good review but it would had been great, if other bass guitar playing styles were also included in their review. I came away thinking this setup was geared towards Rock guitar bass players. Just my thoughts folks.
I have a love/hate relationship with TE. Being in my 40's means I never had a chance to play the mythical 80's models which are legendary. Apparently. If you believe players who would now be in their 50's or 60's.
I've only played 2000's models and found they sound incredible soloed, and band mates enjoy the tone in the rehearsal room but live they sucked. The 2000's TE speakers ran out of headroom so fast it didn't matter how powerful the amp was. Frustrating for something so expensive.
My old CL or HA3500's + various ampeg boxes have never let me down. Loud, punchy and un-killable. The ELF is pointless for me at 200W so I hope this lives up to the review because I really LIKE the "TE sound" but as I say it's never given me the goods live.
wow very nice
I love bass
have a Happy New Year
God bless Trump God Bless America
I bought this amp 2 months ago and returned it. In my opinion it is a very digital amplifier without character... Instead I bought the Ashdown 1200 watts, a beast weighing 28kg, the brain behind Ashdown is the former genius of trace elliot... so instead of a green jacket it became a blue jacket.
a boss eq 200 and good to go.
Trace Elliot, IMO, has always been over priced since the 80's. They were good for their time but there were so many other brands that were better and cheaper. Ampeg, SWR, Eden, to name a few. My rig consists of Crown 4002 xti, Eden Navigator World Tour Preamp, Sennheiser Guitar Wireless, SWR Big Bertha and SWR Goliath Senior. My main bass is an Alembic Epic (4 string) and I have never ever heard a better bass sound.
why don't any of these bass amp reviews actually show what happens when you play be amp with a drummer? If you really want to sell me, the best thing to do would just be to set up a pair of stereo condenser mics on one end of the room and a band on the other side of the room. no close micing. Let's see if the amps can cut through the mix. anything can be made to sound good when close-miced or ran direct. But I need real-world applications.... (same with guitar amps)
Nice Sure Know Something bass line. Lol
