  • In this video I show how to use Mplus to run a basic linear regression. I also walk through the output file.

    Dear James,
Once again with some issues and questions...
My database was running fine until this video and I computed a couple of variables to do my regression analysis (since my scales have between 15 and 32 itens). After I computed the variables I wanted to use, the below error report came again:
    * ERROR
    Invalid symbol in data file:
    "-" at record #: 32, field #: 105
I went to my matrix of participants, line 32, variable 105 and the value is 2,00... Which means that nothing is wrong with that case. There is no invalid symbol there.
So, my question is: Is it possible to work with computed variables in MPlus?
    ?

I wonder if Mplus doesn't like comma notation. Try switching to decimal notation instead. So, instead of 2,00 it should be 2.00

@@Gaskination Solved! By the way, I keep getting Errors regarding variance of the variables.
If I enter with my regular variables it does not happen, but when I compute the composite variables (ex: Intrinsic Motivation) of even a composite variable made with other two composite.
      Can we fix this issue?

@@OPaixao13 What does the error say?

      @@Gaskination * ERROR

I went back and cleaned ALL my database from missing values and double checked all responses and variable properties and I solved the error reported above.
BBBUUUUTT now a new error came on:
      *** ERROR
One or more variables have a variance greater than the maximum allowed of 1000000.
Check your data and format statement or rescale the variable(s) using the DEFINE command.
      I quit! Ahahah

@@OPaixao13 DANG! Mplus can be very frustrating. Perhaps try to standardize the variables prior to entering them into Mplus. That should fix the variance issue.
