That was beautiful. As others have noted, there really is no "bad guy" in this film. Father was teaching Son necessary skills to survive. The Healer entity, in the father's view, posed a threat to that survival by depriving them of food, so he shot it.
Then, of course, there's the more obvious flipside of the story, in which the son wants to preserve life rather than hunt animals for food and other materials.
If only every hunter were so conscientious, taking only what's needed and showing respect and gratitude in the process.
I think this is basically a cycle of powers. When the entity dies it selects another to take its place. But it only does so to those who don’t value life. It forces them into a position where they Have to realize that life is important and that now it’s their job to protect it. I think the forms the entity takes on depict its past life in some way, giving insight to how it used to act.
It’s truly a beautiful story and fantastic animation. I absolutely love it. The art is amazing
My guess on the story is that the spirit is like a cycle, whenever a spirit gets killed, its killer becomes a spirit themselves and thus spend the rest of their lives healing the wounded (as a consequence of killing another and a way to "wash away" their "sins" I guess). Due to the spirits' unique appearance and perhaps other reasons (like confusion and fear), they hide in the woods and as time passes, they slowly learn about kindness and loneliness, until eventually, they are approached by friendly animals and humans and perhaps get killed.

The man was trying to teach the son how to hunt/kill but the child saw the beauty in life and didn't want to kill, the man seeing the child put down his bow took charge. The man scolded the child for thinking that the animal was anything else then for them to hunt and sent him to finish what he started. The child found the deer and an entity, the entity saw that the boy was no threat and allowed him the watch as he healed the deer. The boy was amazed at the entity's power and the beauty in it. The man seeing this strange entity shot and killed it relishing the hunt. The child was saddened at the entity's death and saw the life around him withering away, then and there he knew that they could not forsake life no matter what form. He tried to get the entity's mask to protect it to keep it safe, the man shoved the boy and his ideals away striking the boy in the process. The mask reacted to the strike and transferred its power into the man, changing him into a wolf, a hunter, a wild animal, the mask revealing what he had truly become. The boy was frightened by knew that life was to be guarded no matter what form. The Wolf saw what he had done and what he had become and humbly recognized his mistake, accepting this newfound form and power. The child pledging to help his and stay with him.
This is my interpretation ^ I donno I thought the short film made perfect sense I donno bout you guys but it's take a lot of work for these things and this is what I think the message is. No hate pls it's my opinion

The story is beautiful but the animation makes it even more beautiful. I’m in awe of it... so detailed yet soft (if that makes any sense, lol). I’m looking forward to seeing more from this team.

Makes perfect sense to me. Sometimes, the medium enhances the story, taking an already beautiful story into a real treasure.
He will don't have women never whole his life and his wife will be loved other men in the bed and he will don't have never fun with friends. Whole his life he will be has fun with animals. It's sad.

The father wanted food, but when he came across the spirit thing, he tried to kill it without even TRYING to find out if it's even edible

Nice! 👏 The Dad now has the power to heal! I actually thought the kid was going to put on the mask though. Also the father did not seem bad. He was just trying to teach his son. That kind of confused me. Though it was really nice.
Not bad...and then he shoots an alien nature spirit in the heart.
The thing is that the boy believed in nature and love, but the father listened to his predator and surviving instincts. That s the reason why he was a wolf, a hunter.

In my opinion, the father wasn't the bad guy. Judging by their attire and dedication they put in the long chace, it's evident that every hunt is precious to them. It may have been just the two of them then, but he likely has a mother and other tribes-people waiting. Being kind and thankful to nature has it's time and place - before and after the hunt. You can't afford to hesitate in such a delicate moment. If the antelope lives, your family dies, but if it dies, they live another day. It doesn't matter if it's you or a lion that does the hunting, such is the cycle of life. The boy hesitated and his father scolds him, not only because he failed providing for those who are waiting for him, but also because had that antelope had a different nature, it would have used its horns to attack the boy and he wouldn't have been able to stop it. The situation repeats itself again with the mysterious figure. When the father catches up to the boy, he sees a strange black creature looming over him, thus by instinct attacks it to defend his son. When the boy tries to take the mask, be refuses to give it to him, since it belonged to that dangerous mysterious being and there was no telling if it wouldn't be harmful. I think the last part where he refused to listen to his son is where his mistake truly was, the rest was him being a proper parent.
I agree with you we should continue the way we are, yes preserve nature and learn your limits, but also know to not starve yourself, lets say the tribes people stopped eating meat there would be more antelope which would lead to overpopulation and less grass for them and other herbivores to eat thus ruining the ecosystem. Nature is delicate.

I just loved the entity character. It’s so gorgeous and beautiful.
for some reason I love animations or videos that involve things with masks.
This is a beautiful short. I love the designs and the story!♥️
most of the time i like it when animation has more realism, but the more cartoon look really helps bring this animation to life.
I think the relationship between the two characters is brotherly.
The younger brother learning to hunt and older brother showing him how.
The older brother is more preoccupied with ending life; not so much for survival but for sport as well and you can get a feel for the latter when he shoots the spiritual being and snatches the mask out of his brother’s hand in proud arrogance.
The younger brother is more aware of his moral dilemma in killing. He hesitates to shoot the deer. He embraces the spiritual beings hand as he passes and he sees how life fades around him when he is gone.
The older brother doesn’t understand why his brother struggles with taking life until he is transformed into the wolf being. On one hand he is being punished for his lack of empathy and on the other when he touches his brother’s face he realizes the importance of life and therefore embraces the power to heal.
At least that’s what I got out of it. Pretty awesome short story. Gonna share this one with my kids. ☺️
it has a profound effect on me- the last moment where the child helped his brother understand his powers and see the beauty in life.

Lol, I understood the dad right up to the point where he shot the healer. I'd be cranky at my son too if I was hungry and had been chasing dinner all day long. But shooting the healer? Bro, you don't know if that's edible and more importantly YOU DON'T MESS WITH MAGIC. His confidence crossed the line into arrogance and that was his undoing.

One firm, one green
Both out for prey
Neither knowing what’d come
Two hunters find their prize
One too hesitant
The other thus piqued
For prey slipped out of sight
And injured, prey staggered for safety
Till masked stranger removed its frailty
Green hunter saw
With awe and fright
Masked stranger healed
But did not fight
And in fury and in hate
Firm hunter took his bait
His arrow struck masked healer
And nearby, nature mourned
But death went not in vain
And change was killer’s fate
From hunter to healer
Firm turned softer in hard learning
One word.....BEAUTIFUL

But why assume the form of a wolf when the previous had been (more or less) human? As well, the wolf did not get the star cloak. Is that creative licence, or the creator attempting to tell us something of the distinction between the two - the humanoid, and the wolf (predator/hunter)?
It is possibly a reflection on the persons personality?

There's no such thing as thinking too much about a story. Many of them can be enjoyed more by looking at them through different lenses.
I immediately thought of "predator" when he was given a mask. He probably has some deeper understanding and appreciation for life from this magical mask, but the wolf-ish shape is symbolic of his more predatorial instincts as a regular man. At least, I like to think so.
I love the colours in the grove where the guardian is. The music is lovely too, the violins are on point! 😊👍🏻

Animation and how they represented characters is marvelous. Look of the healing guy (the guy in mask) makes it seem more modern! I enjoyed
Great animation, with a great meaning: life must be protected. I really like how that entity was made. Everything about it was very well done, from the concept itself, through the glowing mask, to the starry robes. Kudos for the animators.
The fact that the first healer guy couldn’t heal himself confused me
its likely that either the arrow hit a vital part of the body or the spirits healing ability cant be used on itself or both

The dad seriously needed to 'think' before shooting. Unfortunately that's how it is with most hunters. However, I did love how he became one of the creatures of healing in the end. He wasn't cursed by the creature, instead he was made to live in its shoes. I've been getting into these short films and have seen a lot that I REALLY like. This is one of them. :)

the guy obviously shot the guardian in the heart which would mean he would die
Maybe the body was physical and only the mask was the real spirit as a body shoot be a carrier?
@@user-mf5qu9qt1c thats what I think, the mask itself is what gives them power with the wearers being its vessal and protector(though to be honest im not sure if the wearer we saw was the original entity or not) and if it that case then the body while likely immortal can still suffer mortal wounds and it seems the spirit cant heal itself or cant heal its own mortal wounds
