My two cents: Metallica's classic song is enjoying a revival on par with Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill." Personally, I hope some of this success carries over to you channel. While I don't have the time these days to write extended analyses, your work remains as sublime as ever and people need to hear it. Your treatment of "Puppets" is textbook you: Everything punches with clear and balanced vigor, including Cliff's bass. The drums pound like an octopus boxer, the guitars surge like an angry stampede, and I can tune into instruments individually AND appreciate them together. Marvelous.
Mono audio is soo much better tho because you get more bass in your headphones if you have Spotify there's a mono audio function in settings to make your music sound more cooler
The thing I love the most about these remixes is that we are able to hear all instruments clearly, ESPECIALLY the bass. As a bassist, I always had a hard time figuring out songs by ear because the original mix is way too low on the bass
Yeah, that's a problem I've had with other "remixes" by other youtubers, it's like there's an overcorrection on the lack of bass, so their solution is to just make the bass louder, and the thing is about finding a way to properly balance things, adjust frequencies to give each instrument their proper place in the mix. Ahdy is the only person I hear that vastly improves the mix. His versions are the ones I want to hear. I wish Metallica would magically just hand him all their raw tracks and let him have carte blanche, but Metallica hasn't seemed to be interested in making improvements. They'll release a big fancy box set on major anniversaries, with some additional stuff, but no care or attention brought to the recordings themselves.
to be fair, Metallica did a good job on this album with the bass, it's pretty clear what Cliff is playing on every song. though on other albums the bass has turned into a meme lmao
I like how you make the bass sound "different" than the guitar, i don't know how to explain it well but somehow you make it sound distinct, separating it and making it sound clearer while at the same time having the guitar loud too, not ruining the drums either, it's great
I don’t know how to explain this, but this mix made the song have the same feeling as the first time I heard it. It just feels so fresh and unknown again. Outstanding
Oh boy I get to be here before Mr. Two Cents! Anyways, keep on keeping on my man. You're a master of mastering and every remaster of a song you've ever done feels like the superior version of iconic songs I've loves for years. That's masterclass talent.
Ok, this is my favourite song of all time and waking up this morning to your mix was like Christmas coming early. Thank you for giving these songs new life and the respect they deserve. I still can’t get over how good it sounds.
I think Leper Messiah is the one song from Master of Puppets that was never in Guitar Hero (or Rock Band) so it wouldn't be as in depth as this remix bc there's no publically available stems
Yeah, we really need those Leper Messiah stems to get out, somehow. If anyone knows how to make that happen it would be a great contribution to the legacy. Rick Beato seems to be able to magically produce stems.
I'm noticing that there's a better balance in each instrument; almost like hearing details or parts that were originally buried in the mix are now more up front. Very nice job!
When you're honing your craft and you make something objectively better than your last effort... You put it out there. This is the best version yet and I appreciate the finely tuned and notched EQ happening here. If I were in the same position I would forever want to post the latest and best remix/remaster I could. Already a good track, but you managed to clean it up even more and really bring out a few subtle lost elements (small echoes here and there, twangy bass, concise notes). Brings me back to singing this to my class in the seventh grade. Great job man! Making Metallica feel fresh and new as when I first found them all those years ago.

Holy shit an actually good remix. This actually sounds so good. My only complaint is that the bass could be turned down just a pinch (I'll probably get shot for saying that). See to me, as a bassist, metal is built on levels 1. Lead 2. Rhythm 3. Bass Drums lay the temp and each of the levels are used to boost the ladder. Bass boosts rhythm, rhythm boosts lead. Me personally I find that if bass guitar is too loud in the mix, it distracts from the main focus, which is the riffs. Either way, this is still a badass remix and it does justice to Metallica
@@doktorhund6926 I don't mean start with lead. What I mean is that when the solo is playing, THAT should be your main focus. My listening is basically just what your attention should be on while listening to a song.
Thanks for this (and for your other Metallica remasters). To be honest, I dont play the originals anymore...I only play your versions. Cheers from Italy.
Me too. Especially with the AJFA mixes. I keep waiting for the final 3 installments (frayed ends of sanity, eye of the beholder and to live is to die) so I can finally have a properly mixed version of the entire album. (Hint, hint)
I just upgraded my studio monitors this weekend and WOW the difference this has is incredible. To explain some background. I own a Mesa Boogie Mark III Blue Stripe wich is kinda closely related to the 2C+ Metallica used on this album. I have tried matching it time after time but you cant really get there 100%. However this remix and remaster really separates the bass from the guitar wich is really helpful for me. The bass actually makes a up a huge part of the guitar tone of the original mix. The problem you run into when matching this guitar tone in my experience is not being not tight enough but rather being too tight. The 2C+ has a really unique treble character wich is not as aggressive as one might think. When I dial the amp in to flemmings notes I get there but not with a nicely balanced treble side. The tone also has way lower gain than most people would think. A lot of the perceived gain comes from the layering of the guitar tracks and hard attack as well as power amp distortion instead of typical pre amp distortion. This makes this tone particularly hard to dial in. Then there is the pull deep function of the master volume wich also adds depth. This as well makes the metallica tone from Master of Puppets onward really unique and hard to emulate. This in my opinion as someone who as said is currently playing around with this tone A LOT is the definitive listening experience to MOP because of the said separation wich allows you to focus the guitar tone better. It would be really interesting to have an insight into how the panning was done here over the track. Like most of Ahdys work the drums also sound more dynamic and especially in this example are used to aid with the very percussive guitar playing in crucial spots. The bass essentially does the same thing but in another range. All of this adds up to an incredibly tight piece of music that creates a drive forwards wich is constantly re-enforced by bass and drums. A genius arrangement by Lars, James and Cliff if you think about it. Overall while not being my favorite track by the band this remix and remaster made me fall in love with the song once again. Thank you for that Ahdy
I know especially nowadays it's extremely overplayed but I think this still might be their masterpiece. It's extremely melodic and most importantly like all great songs it's as narratively rich as a film, where you can understand and imagine exactly what's going on to the character they're talking about in the lyrics by just listening to the music. Like when you actually put into context that this tells a story of a man fucking ravaged by drugs, the bridge part of the song is really sad, no matter the number of shitty covers you saw of it on RUclips. It's not my favorite one of the band, but it's definitely their Magnum Opus.
I would love to hear this remaster with the S&M orchestral track tacked on! I love the added weight and improved balance of this! Great to actually hear Cliff, and have the bass drums provide more punch. Hearing the countermelodies from the orchestration would certainly elevate this. And you can find the isolated orchestra track!
the guitar sounds so much more strong in this. it really feels like a punch in the face in that downpicking intro part where james plays his little solo thing, then the other instruments come in.
Amazing work man. The separation between the kick drums and the bass is outstanding. But is it just me or the snare sounds like a constant two stroke sound? Like two snares were being hit with a slight separation of milliseconds. Or like there's a really short slapback delay on it, sounds almost like a clap at moments. I find it kinda distracting, but who cares. This is fantastic.
