Because 90% of people here of going to see this movie have never seen a Godzilla film not starring Matthew Broderick before.

Gotta be fair, Mothra’s entrance wouldn’t be half as cool in the day. Godzilla and Ghidorah are fighting in the dark, cloudy storm and Mothra becomes this light in the darkness.
Yeah that was such an I’ll-founded criticism. Someone needs to criticize movie critics for a living, lol
Good point. Also Godzilla's and Gidora's rays wouldn't look as bad-ass during the day. The only kaiju scene that's memorable in Anno's "Shin Godzilla" happens at night too.
Mothra doesn’t need the lamp. She, IS the lamp!
@@o0bookwyrmknight0o i think thats why she goes to godzilla because he glows..... like lamp.... godlamp? Lampzilla?
Adrijana Radosevic the night time is to help blend the cgi, if it weren’t at night it would look like the fucking shrek movie during the monster fights

I understand James' complaint of fights in the rain/dark , but I find it justified in-universe as Ghidorah creates storms wherever he goes because of his wings. But i'm definitely expecting a daytime fight in Godzilla vs Kong.
Why not a daytime storm?
@@xxSKAGhosTxx a daytime storm would still be kinda dark

About Godzilla (2014), am I the only person on the planet who didn't hate the Mutos? I thought they were kinda cool and those creepy creaking noises they made 🤷🏻♂️
Dude, no. I like those creatures
Mutos were okay, but why was the movie about the mutos?
Mutos were cool, but it was called GODZILLA. People hated them because they were in the movie a lot more than the big G himself.
MUTO is one of the best monsters in the franchise but people never gave them a chance
It was cool to see a new monster, but Godzilla really didn’t get enough screen time.
Dude on the left really liked the colorful wings and they didn't. I think the luminescent wings were awesome
Me too, Mothra has always been colorful.
@Frizzurd I mean she is a space traveling Giant Moth. If she can weather the harshness of space, she can fight other monsters.
The only problem with the glow-wings is they're so bright they obscure what's happening in several moments. Like the opposite end of the specturm to Godzilla 14, a whiteout instead of a blackout.
Frizzurd it’s a shame she didn’t really use the energy beams that much, if at all
I still can’t believe we’re getting a remake of Godzilla vs King Kong next March even though as James said once back in the day, “It deserves a remake.”

@@callmebabbx1165 you recieved my msg so far off the scale of my realm of reason (for a lack of a better term) that i wont even respond back. Thats not what i meant dude.
The reason the fights are done at night and in dark environments is pretty simple. It's easier on CGI. Scenes in the day/light are a lot more difficult to make look realistic and hide flaws. Just look at the scenes in Pacific Rim 2.
Shin godzilla did daylight with 15m budget 🤣
And? Shin's night sequence looked better than its day sequenced for the exact reason I stated. Not to mention it's CGI and action sequences weren't remotely on the same level of complexity that King of the Monsters was. It had a 15 million dollar budget. And looked like a 15 million dollar movie.
@@geert574 ...are you implying the CGI in Shin Godzilla is comparable with King of the Monsters?

It seems in most of the other movies he's in, he's either weaker than Godzilla for some reason, or he's so overwhelmed by a rush of allied rival monsters he barely has a chance to do anything before they stomp on the guy. I like it best when he's depicted as the strongest monster, with Godzilla only persevering through sheer toughness, and by begrudgingly accepting the help of other monsters.
Not to mention, he wasn't mind controlled like he was in previous films.

With the Ghidorah fight you have remember he effects the weather that’s why it was always raining. After the fight and the the other Kaiju bow to Godzilla the weather clears up.
THIS read this comment!
*BUT* , they probably gave him that ability to cover up the CGI
Sigh...how hard is it to grasp that they made him have this storm ability so that they could hide the CGI. It was a cop out and it's an incredibly common movie trope. Don't excuse out of universe issues with in universe facts.
You know: It's possible to have a storm AND have good visibility and decently directed fight scenes (both monsters visible on screen, no shaking). Look at tornado videos, those are filmed during actual storms and you can see for miles, and it's still bright out. Just because Ghidorah causes storms doesn't mean he has to cause London fog in Hurricane Michael conditions around him 24/7.
@Kevin Deauseault
Well, should Superman not be allowed to fly in any of his films ever, just because the idea to have him fly, instead of just jumping really high, originally came from the cartoonists looking for ways to animate him more efficiently?
“The movie was just about scientists and government agents with monsters fighting in the background.” So basically a Godzilla movie?🤨
Exactly
that pronunciation of evangelion struck a nerve I never knew I had
“Ev anne jellin.” Made me shudder.
i know right
They’re not as hardcore as you are. Time to unsubscribe, I’d say
Darker lighting can help you skip over more finite details in GGI, therefore it can save time and money when you make these fight scenes at night. And while I agree that a fight scene in the day would be epic, I understand that they're probably trying to save money with these scenes that are basically entirely CGI. From the landscape, the vehicles, and obviously the monsters. That could probably get expensive, so costs have to cut.
Whereas the classic Japanese films used animatronics and men in suits, so it was much easier to kinda set up cheaper scenarios between the monsters.
"Not enough collateral damage"
Godzilla literally became like, THREE nuclear bombs and melted buildings like butter by just existing in the final fight...
Only had to sit through 2 hours of complete trash for a lame effect too, awesome.
I think what James was trying to say was not the fact that there wasn’t enough buildings destroyed, but the movie never focused on the buildings being destroyed, which is something I can agree with. Godzilla along with the other monsters are in Boston by the end of the film, but I can’t ever recall what famous Boston buildings or landmarks the monsters destroyed. It’s mostly because the movie doesn’t give enough spectacle of the destruction, but more spectacle of the monster action.
Bear McCreary's score for this movie is absolutely amazing. Probably my favorite score this year.
Me too!
I really admired the modern take on Godzilla’s theme song
The entire city of Boston gets wiped out.
Washington DC laid to waste.
Mexican city devastated by Rodan.
Reviewer: not enough destruction.
He does specify that there wasn't enough destruction On Camera. Does that stuff happen on camera? Haven't seen the movie
You don't see that many buildings falling. You mostly just see the aftermath. So I agree with them.
Don't forget other kaijus wrecking cities as well.
@@ressljs I mean Rodan't flight wipes out a city on screen, the final fight had buildings being crashed left and right by the monsters, honestly there was so much I thought I was gonna have a seizure. It's so weird I guess the nerd is those types of people that only in Japan can it be a actual Godzilla movie 😓
Who are you quoting?
So much rain in King of the Monsters, what is this, the 98 Godzilla movie?
Yeah I love Ghidorah’s storm powers.
I concur. They sound like bitchy chicks here. Wow. Too little Godzilla in 2014. Oh too much Godzilla in 2019. Oh too dark. Wow. Hello Toho films Gojira is mostly at night
From a guy that has seen 10-ish Godzilla movies, here's a triad of unpopular opinions:
-Shin Godzilla is phenomenal.
-This one is freakin' awesome.
-98' wasn't THAT bad, just an experiment gone wrong, but a watchable flick.
There, I said it.
The 2nd one isn't to unpopular amoung godzilla fane
I don't really know any legit fans who hate Shin.
KOTM is great fun.
'98 had a good monster design (no I wont call it Godzilla)... that's about it.
I will gladly watch the animated series spawned by 98’
98' Godzilla design is not cool but the movie is cool
Correct opinion, I kneel
It was said that Ghidorah makes stroms while he flies
So they fight with him in every case?
@@sonshinegamers from a story perspective yes. But from the perspective of filmmaking execution its just a reason to have fights take place in a dark storm again
I love the movie but it is getting old to have good fights or visual scenes take place in rain and darkness
@@MrVidman14 The reason they're set during the night is because it's easier to render the effects with that lighting. The one shot of Godzilla at the end of 2014 doesn't look that great because effects in general don't look great in open lighting.
Christopher Buckley lol transformers would disagree. They looked phenomenal in open bright desert lighting
@@christopherbuckley5929 and that is a valid defense
OMG lost it when dude said " Where you in My Girl 2?" Since he was actually in My Girl and his character died.
I'm just positive that Rodan was flying around in the day, attacked the Ghid in the day and then Godzilla attacked the Ghid in the day.
As someone who has seen all the Godzilla flicks, I will say I think Shin Godzilla is one of the if not the best - at least in my opinion.
Yes, the movie feels bloated, but the decision is very intentional. The premise is a social commentary on Japanese government, and how bloated the whole process of decision making is, and how it ends up making natural disasters worse (something that isn't too unfamiliar with recent history, something Shin represents).
The movie is definitely exciting, but I definitely can understand how it isn't for everyone.
Same thing with GMK, Godzilla Movies work best when they allude to social commentary and not just monsters fighting each other.
The C.I.A. Not really but ok
@@MukuonChannel how about son of godzilla?
Movoe lagh only made start shooting lser ll over its body over just because tried to comare over that other ried to follow borng rodiculous weird godzilla 2014 was
@@MukuonChannel I like the monster fighting stuff in between my brainy nuclear lizard social commentary. The shlock makes you appreciate the thoughtful projects more.
Not enough destruction?? What the hell movie did you watch? This was fantastic!
lmao right? I like how they avoided the Man of Steel complaint by saying how one of the towns had been evactuated.
Then you clearly didn't watch previous Godzilla's movies.
GODZILLA BODIES GHIDORAH THROUGH A FUCKIN BUILDING HOOOO
The destruction was there, but so much of what made godzilla movies fun to watch is them actually focusing on and showing the fights take place. Not cutting the camera to different views 100x a minute and having the battlegrounds themselves already destroyed. Like they said, everything appeared so artificial because of the overabundance of effects. It was honestly just really hard for me to appreciate what I was watching because they outright would never focus on any one thing during the fights
@@nrlatty22 but it needed more destruction. Sure the buildings are gone, but on screen destruction.
Liked that Steve Buscemi cameo in the beginning of the video.

You mean God?
Such bad teeth.
I thought he was in Dennis the Menace, Spy Hard and Bad Moon. 🤔
How the heck did this get 300+ likes?! XD

The Blue Oyster Cult original is so much better because of one thing. Buck Dharma.
Godzilla 2019 was fucking amazing. I can't wait to see it again. It is by far the best Godzilla movie to come out in many years.
Yup
I agree. Don’t get me wrong I love James and his buddies’ rental reviews, but it just seems to me as if they’re being way too nit picky for the sake of it. I get that the movie wasn’t perfect, but IMO it improved everything from Godzilla 2014 and expanded upon the monsterverse lore of Kong Skull Island but yet these guys still hated it.
Shin Godzilla was fucking miles better than King of the Monsters
@@PlanetShlorpian I know right this is the best time to be a godzilla fan
@@matthewhoobin5730 Shin Godzilla-political stuff and sentimental stuff about Godzilla
KOTM-Monster action all around and Ghidorah and Rodan's design is awesome
So...i prefer KOTM with some better cgi and chaotic monster action
I like to bring up how they kinda kept the spirit of Mothras twin fairies. It was more so an easter egg but it was good to see
So they acknowledge them in the movie? Haven't seen it yet but i'm really excited to do it soon
@@kaiviru i dont wanna spoil. Theyre not literal fairies, they keep the twin theme and have Mothra connected and have ties to asian culture. Like i said up above its more so an easter egg, youll know when you see it :)
Wow, I guess this is more of a difference between generations honestly.
I absolutely love that film, I loved Ghidorah’s Storm powers and the scenes with the monster fights. I didn’t care if it wasn’t during the night or day, I still enjoyed the monster fights. This is honestly such a bad-ass film and I love it to death, one of the best Godzilla films I’ve seen.
I have to insist: we need James badly to do a re-review of this movie.
Harsh it all you want. I freakin' loved this flick and will see it again this weekend!
Her we go, Petition to have Godzilla Vs. King Kong have fights during the day ;)
Seriously, someone actually start this. And also ask for more onscreen destruction of building and stuff during the fights too.
Isn't Godzilla ten times bigger than King Kong?
@Matthew Mcgee lmao right? Godzilla is a goddamn wrecking ball. They'll have to take his power away or make Kong look smarter in comparison and maybe use tools/weapons like he did on Skull Island. I just don't wanna see Godzilla lose :(
JAMES: "Not enough destruction"
MOVIE: Come on dude, we leveled the entire city of Boston one building at a time.
Later in the video:
"You see one building smashed, and then Boston is destroyed"
Did you guys even watch this movie? There is a minute straight of just trashing buildings.
There's literally only ONE shot in the entire movie of a kaiju smashing a building. ONE. Boston is leveled off screen. The movie had too many characters, a terrible plot, and a terrible mcguffin that they needed to focus on instead.
@@YouDumbZombie I've got bad opinions too, I think DK64 is the best N64 game.
@@SuperNobody64 Disagree if you want, enjoy it if you like but the movie was really bad.
@@YouDumbZombie What's your ideal Godzilla movie than?
@@SuperNobody64 GMK, Shin, Tokyo SOS, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs Mothra, Final Wars, Godzilla vs. Gigan etc. Something with solid kaiju action and plotlines that are fun.
I finally saw this movie today. I absolutely ADORED it
Me too! Fun as hell,
Saw it yesterday. Im 44 and grew up with the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s Godzillas. This had literally everything you could want from a Godzilla movie! When he was juiced up and flowing red, I almost jumped out of my seat! Thats how you do Godzilla! There should be a moment when you realize that he is about to completely unleash his real power and then there is no stopping him. They nailed it!!!
Me too
Literally 20 mins ago for me. It was goddam amazing. Was not expecting a Burning Godzilla. I avoided the reviews good and bad, was not disappointed.
The soundtrack, the subtle nods to the original movies. It was great. They even acknowledged that King Ghidorah came "from the stars." Which was my only concern, since the trailers alluded to all "Titans" being terrestrial.
Agreed! It was amazing. I'm kinda surprised that there are so many negative reviews for this
i thought this godzilla had the most monster fighting i've seen compared to most of the other godzilla movies. granted, the original japanese movies had side stories like people from the future, or aliens, or something and godzilla was almost objectively incidental, but i enjoyed the amount of fighting. what bothered me was how this was centered so much around this "alpha frequency"--that and the little girl with parental issues.
addendum: decent point about the nighttime thing. the redeeming feature about it was when Gidora went super saiyan after biting that electric.. power plant/transformer, whatever it was.
But here only cool human character was main female and that guy who sacreficed.
The movie wasn’t perfect but I loved it . Especially on the big screen it was so fun
The original Japanese movies weren't perfect either.
@@aussieman3021 Yes, but as fanboys tend to forget they were Japanese.

Id rather have James take on this movie alone
I agree. Those two twats are so loud!
I wish James would talk about films himself again.
There was quite a few scenes where Ghidorah just toppled over skyscrapers like the city was made out of Jengas, so not sure what the lack of destruction is all about.
@J. C. to be fair, you can never have enough destruction in a Godzilla movie, but I did enjoy seeing Ghidorah brush buildings aside like they were nothing.
The fight scenes was epic... Godzilla fans would love the fight everyone wanted more monsters action
Were*
they were alright lol, maybe if they didnt zoom in at 1000x
They were in the rain, in the dark, bad angles, zoomed in, shaky cam...yeah...they weren't really good tbh. I'll take GMK or Final Wars etc any day of the week over this.
Like it not in most every single Godzilla movie
@@Dr_Decaf When I was in my 20's, a popular song was "It's cool to know nothing."
Now, those idiots have kids, which have grown and are posting on social media.... and the parents picketed for lower school taxes.
James should just watch the movie again and then do a re-review by himself.
I agree. I am actually really surprised by his reaction to this. i thought he would love it for sure. It features multiple other famous monsters from the series and they spend most of their time fighting. it even uses the theme song which is something James i always banging on about. and his only complaint seems to be that there are no fights in the day, that is a nit pick at best not a movie breaking flaw. i feel like because his other two friends didn't really like it he is being influenced by their reviews
True
I agree. I like how James does reviews by himself better. He doesn't really talk a lot when he has his friends in the review.
As a godzilla fan I hated this film personally
@@Flindo911 not a real single godzilla fan would say ever that.
Go watch Matthews fakezilla and stfu
One of the many things I love about this movie is the heroic sacrifice of Dr. Serizawa and the touching scene of him reunited with Godzilla seconds before the nuclear bomb blows up.
Man as a life long Godzilla fan I loved this movie! So much Awesomeness!
Honestly, these “reviewers/critics” aren’t real fans. They “were” fans when they were kids, but they are letting nostalgia ruin this film for others. I own every single Godzilla film made by Toho, and the monster fights in this film beat the Toho stuff with out question. Many reviewers are letting their nostalgia cloud their judgement. This was an extremely fun movie, and it doesn’t deserve the negative response it’s getting from these so called “fans” of Godzilla. A real fan would appreciate what this movie did.
IKR? This was awesome. Everything I've been waiting for. And at least the human characters are better now than they were in 2014. OMG. They were so lifeless.
Have been a Godzilla fan from the originals thru current and thoroughly enjoyed this one, thought it hit all the marks for fan service and entertainment. Also love James and have nothing but respect for him as a fellow fan, but a bit surprised and disappointed that he seemed to glance over how much this movie offered to instead spend half the video dwelling on:
1. More Daylight Shots
2. Not enough building destruction
Dude, if those two minor points were enough to ruin the entire movie for you, I think we might have to stage an intervention. Hope you get a chance to watch again as you mentioned you should, and find better appreciation for the things that were done well!

He's not a true fan, and honestly that's how all critics on this movie are.
And she can throw A LOT of them.
I think James criticized it too much, and to quote James Rolfe “it’s a monster movie, it’s pop corn entertainment” “if you wanted something more, like the meaning of life, your not gonna get it”
thats dumb
I saw this with 2 of my friends, and as it went on we kept laughing harder and harder at how ridiculous it all was. I was dying at the stuff with the lady wanting to wipe out humanity; it did exactly what I wanted in my opinion.
@The Milk Man thats a terrible excuse. jaws was a better monster movie than this
@The Milk Man im not closed minded dipshit its just movies nowadays always use that dumbass excuse to hide their blatant flaws. and jaws still counts as a monster movie just like godzilla except its way better. this movie has no excuse.
@Nathan Lentine U cant say that about Gojira or Cloverfield. Those two had extremely serious themes, and they are two of the best kaiju movies ever made. U cant eat popcorn without your gut wrenching on those two.
Fun fact:
Bear McCreary did the music for this movie and the Angry Video Game Nerd Movie! Man, he's come a long way since that humble beginning.
THAT ONE A-HOLE sup E;R
THAT ONE A-HOLE and god of war
And God of War. Baldur's theme Deliverance was the most epic song in that entire soundtrack.
I had zero issues with visibility watching this. I was able to clearly see the monsters throughout the film. Worth noting Ghidorah creates storms wherever he goes. And there's plenty of structure destruction during the final battle in Boston.
Personally, I loved it.
James had no problem with the visibility, he said he just wanted to see the monsters in daylight for once. It's not criticism
