Sailing Finn Men Medal Race Full Replay from Weymouth and Portland at the London 2012 Olympic Games. -- 5 August 2012
Sailing was first contested as an Olympic sport at the 1900 Paris Games. Since then, the classes of boats allowed to compete have continually evolved to reflect advances in yacht design and technology. Equipment advances over the past 20 years have created a trend towards smaller and lighter craft, placing ever greater demands on both the athletic and technical capacities of the sailors.

I can't believe there aren't any comments on this amazing race! Ainslie really blew everyone away with this 4th consecutive Glod Medal and hats off to J.Lobert, French outsider who managed to bring home the bronze. It's a shame the fantastic sport doesn't garner more attention from the media and the spectators, those who have already raced will agree it's an extremely physical challenge.

People tell me that sailing is boring but I know they are dead wrong, it's fast paced, intense, and can actually be pretty dangerous what with the speed and amount of force exerted by the wind on the boats

Hi Gabrielle! lots of young guys start off in single handers like the Topper. The next big deal is to think carefully about what to do next. Rather than spending a lot of loot that you probably don't even have, this is the time to crew in an exciting 2person trapeze dinghy. You need a good club with a decent fleet of one design boats. Start off with a fairly stable older design like a Fireball, or 5-0-5, and learn how to be really competent at roll tacking, gybing and spinnaker handling. Then find a good and experienced helmsman to crew for. I promise you'll learn so much more that way!

@@EMY.sr. Hi, sailing uses a ten race series. Points are awarded by finish place in each of these races. Two of those races can be discarded. The top 10 boats then go into a double points medal race ( The medal race can not be discarded). The winner of the gold medal is the helm that comes out on top after the series is completed. Hope this helped.
