With an oven that old it probably doesn't have electronic ignition. It could be something as simple as the oven pilot has gone out. If the top burners use a pilot then the oven will also. Sometimes debris can cause the pilot orifice to get clogged and can require cleaning. Don't get rid of those old pilot ovens so much more reliable.
Duly noted. I did remove the inner base to get at that pilot light at one point. I tried to light it, while flinching, with one of those long matches. Still, nothing. I just remember trying to bake cookies one Christmas and, all of a sudden, it was no longer baking. I may look back there again to check for debris. I’ll say that I did make the mistake of leaving a Le Creuset cast iron pan in the boiler for a bit, which ruined the pan. I don’t recall whether it was one of their pans with a non-stick or enameled surface. But, the instructions said not to do that and I’d just forgotten it was in there as, I never use the broiler. I have a kenmore gas stove. I am using it with propane. My oven lights up and works. But the flame is too high and even if I lower the temperature knob it does not decrease the flame. How can I adjust the flame in the oven?

If you are referring to the surface spark igniter then the problem is in one of the switches located on the surface control valves with the power off you can ohm these out to see which is closed in the off position. Look up parts using your model number. If you are referring to the oven 99.9 percent of all ovens use a hot surface igniter which is ran in series with the gas valve. The igniter continues to be on anytime the oven temperature is calling for the gas valve to be on.
The gas is not being directed toward the igniter properly, possibly because of a clogged burner. Pull out the burner and inspect the slits for blockage near the igniter.

I would inspect the burner first to make sure the holes are not plugged up with rust. And clean the burner with a steel brush. There is also an orifice that sits right under the burner when removed check it as well. You will need a gas manometer to check gas pressure but check the burner and orifice first.
@@AlvinShepherd Thank you for the reply sir. I have checked both so suspect the igniter is not pulling enough amps to fully open the gas valve. I arrived at this because the broiler function works fine (has it's own igniter) on the unit. If regulator/pressure were an issue I would think both would show the same symptoms. Is this reasonable thinking?
It has a bad thermostat depending on your model the thermostat can be just a oven temperature control or it can be integrated into a control circuit board but there will be a temperature sensor inside the oven which goes to the control.

Any pointers I cant afford a repair man so Im stuck diy.. 😔
It's possible that the knob is turning while the oven temperature control shaft does not. If you are sure that the control shaft is in the off position you most likely have a bad oven temperature control. You could disconnect the wiring from the gas control valve located on the back of the oven. This would prevent the oven from working. Be sure to unplug the oven while removing any wiring from the controls or the valve and tape up the connectors with electrical tape to prevent a short. Hope this helps.
I got the same stove as in the video and everything works fine except that when I put it on 375 flames come all the way to the top of the bottom tray.....is that normal or is there too much gas being distributed?????
The gas valve is On or Off and controlled by a thermostat so unless something has rusted away on the burner to allow the gas to flow to one area I would say OK. But a good inspection of the burner for rust holes certainly would be a good idea.
hi. my oven need to be ignite using matches. but there is no flame comes out at the tiny hole (gas burner) .. only at the starting point where i put my match.. why there no flame around the gas burner??
If your oven uses a hot surface igniter to ignite the oven burner then it will not work because the gas valve gets its power through the igniter. The valve circuit is wired in series with the igniter.

Kimberly if your stove top burners have a flame it is a gas oven. There are electric ranges which only use electricity and there are some rare models which use a combination of both. Old stoves that had pilots only used gas and did not require any electricity. But they would emit gas fumes if placed into a small kitchen over time and had several pilots that burned continuously so they have been phased out.
In my case I see the igniter glowing red, but I don't hear gas coming out nor smell gas. So it must be some sort of valve issue. The stove on top all burn fine. What is the remedy for that type of situation?
Well they say if it glows and don't light it maybe not drawing enough amps the gas valve will not open unless the igniter draws like 4 amps.Repair man said it could still light but the oven will never get up to the proper temp you set it too..If the igniter is bad won't get oven temp high like should and if igniter is bad enough it won't open the gas valve. In your case need to check the amps at the igniter frist if you can if its low replace igniter as its bad.
Sounds like the igniter may have had a crack in it. They are very fragile like thin glass. Best way to tell is to ohm it out at the two wires coming off the new igniter the resistance should be between 50 and 150 ohms.

Shepherd's Home Repair thank u so much . I learnt a lot from ur video . I did know it was still using gas I thought it was fully electric
Shepherd's Home Repair I saw a picture it looks simular to the others
Just put a new oven igniter on a general electric gas stove it turned on then it turned off does anybody know why
Sounds like the igniter may have had a crack in it. They are very fragile like thin glass. Best way to tell is to ohm it out at the two wires coming off the new igniter the resistance should be between 50 and 150 ohms.
@@AlvinShepherd thank you I'll try that
my oven switch went out the replacement part looks like a needle attached to a wire! help
What is the make and model number of your oven?
You may have one like the one shown in this video ruclips.net/video/XUPxzkt3xug/видео.html
My oven won't turn off for some reason, the temperature selector Mark off but it still on . It runs for about 5 minutes on a 150f to 200f temperature then it goes off , takes 10 minutes and is back on running , help please!!!! Wife is getting crazy!
GE 24" MODEL # JGAS02SENSS
Sounds like a bad thermostat that's about the only thing that could do that.
Shepherd's Home Repair , thank you, yes it is the thermostat; I tock it off and tested, for some reason is letting the line open so the igniter keeps coming on . Just checked the price on Sears online and it's about $78 , but in the store they selling it at $136 plus $15 shipping , crazy!!!
what about a glowcoil that wont go out ever?
