  • Only a month ago Logan Bowden was celebrating the resurgence of pinball; his Portland, Ore., company, QuarterWorld, which features scores of classic pinball and arcade games, was a success - until the coronavirus pandemic made pinball parlors a no-go. But QuarterWorld turned harrowing financial news into an opportunity, by offering shut-in Portlanders eager to play the chance to rent its games for their very own home. Luke Burbank reports.

I grew up in the last house that was shown having a delivery and, in 1968, my dad bought me a Gottlieb Olympics pinball machine from Dunis distributing company in Portland. When I grew up and moved into my own home, I took my pinball machine with me where it now enjoys a warm spot in my enclosed sunporch next to my more recent acquisition, a Gottlieb 4-player Bowling Queen. I am 65 years old and have been playing pinball ever since I can remember. It is certainly a healthy way to pass the time during lockdown! How wonderful that the current owners of my childhood home have Carried on the tradition!

Well done Logan & Quarterworld wizards! NIc here from Roanoke Pinball Museum... someone suggested we should also do pinball rentals, but we don't have the number of employees you do and liability was a concern. Decided to shutter our doors instead & fix all of our project games waiting in the queue. Which is kind of a blessing... as you know it takes time to make them perfect! I just hope America will be ready to bounce back into action once we open our doors again and find a cure for this thing. All the best from out east!

What a creative idea to rent pinball machines to folks during the pandemic. I love it when people think outside the box during a crisis. Logan Bowden is a true Pinball Wizard.

I wish the government considered this "working from home" and let this business continue deliveries. American ingenuity at work. This idea was saving three more jobs. They were being so responsible and cautious too.

What's the best song ever about pinball? Nope It's not the Who. It's The Pinball Song by Slobberbone. From Denton, TX. You should check em out.

Thanks for sharing this story with all of us. When I saw the Ms. Pac Man machine it really touched my heart. Wow! I use to have a mini Home verison of Ms Pac Man. I played for hours on end. All I needed was 4 c batteries and played for days.

Great Idea!! For those of us that HAVE to enter homes, (Im a electrician) the people I see could really use this. The fact that I'm a pinball nut probably colors my opinion.
