@@dehere111 hi Rick, hope you are doing great. I have great memories from those years. I hope I could go back in time and relive those days. My dad didn't have a car. My father had a horse named Slack Rack when I was a kind and he could not figure out the start to save his life.(After one of his wins, they had to get him okayed out of the gate before they could run him again.) He'd win from a mile back and, man, it was so exciting to watch him run even in those cheap races. I spent half of my childhood at the track and a good portion of my adulthood there and I've never seen anything like this race. 15 back at the half? She was probably more than 15 back a third of the way through the stretch.

Very good Joseph Weil. I remember having my best Breeders Cup day ever at Monmouth when Midnight Lute did just that at 12-1 I believe. Not only did I hit the win, exacta and pick3 but I told my boss that I liked him and he had me put down a thousand for him. I got quite the bonus at Christmas so I'll never forget that call. She was born in 2005, and so far her record stands at 8-2-2-1 Sadly she was injured Nov of last year and they had to van her off the track . . . and I haven't heard anything about her since, hope she's ok.
How fast was that last pole? Looks like she turned it up a couple gears there. VERY nice stretch run......at 2 furlongs left I never would have thought she'd be able to catch the leaders. Then that last furlong she just burst out of a cannon through traffic and quickly swallowed up the leaders. Impressive.
Ive bet on horses since 1988, and ive NEVER seen a horse come from that far back that late in a race. She must have been 10 lengths in back of the second to last horse at the top of the stretch. Yeah, the front end was dying, but you just don't see closes from that far back with that little of time left in a race. Incredible, and I wish I had 50 across on it. :(
Lol. No Ive never heard of that horse. Zenyatta came from way back, yes, but not as far back that late in the race as this horse was. Ive seen tens of thousands of races in my lifetime and ive never seen a race like this.
+LightningJanitorial rewatch her only loss in the BC Classic. She was 31 lengths behind the leaders. She came back like a freight train just to lose by a nose.
10 lengths is nothing try 41 lengths. That's how far back Silky Sullivan was in the 1958 Santa Anita and made up the whole 41 lengths to win by 1 length.
Silky Sullivan closed like crazy, as did many a horse, and probably from farther back than this horse. What youre not understanding is that this horse was that far back with so little of the race left. Silky Sullivan closed from way back in the 58 Santa Anita derby, sure, but at the top of the stretch hes only 4 lengths off the lead. The anomaly about THIS race is how far this horse was from the lead when it made its move. It simply doesnt happen.

I had to go back and watch it again because she came out of nowhere and I missed the beginning of the explosion. There's turn of foot and there's what she did. Wow.
The rest of the field was backpedaling. That allowed her to run her magic in the final quarter, having reserved her energy for that late push. She got lucky with the pace. Not to say that she didn't deserve the "W", but, sometimes in order to win, you need everything to go in your favor. This is one of those situations where it went in her favor.

Argeniniean , the first 10 year old to win a graded stakes in America!!!!

Echo of Silky Sullivan! I'm surprised to only seen about a half dozen references to him. I remember as a kid watching a race on TV with my Dad. Silky Sullivan was so far back that they had a separate camera on him so you could watch him in a separate little window in the corner of the screen!
Zenyatta won all of her 19 consecutive wins in the same fashion...She just missed going 20 for 20 in her bid to win the Breeders Cup as she was so far off the pace it was to much for her to overcome...

If you remember Brian's Time, a little stretch running horse who normally trailed the field afer leaving the gate, this filly's performance comes up like that. The interesting thing is the final quarter in 21.4. Seems like she just galloped early on and didn't blow out until after the turn. That the kind of "freight train" runs that have people tearing up their tickets before they see the end. Nice filly!
For all I know, they could very well have used a 'buzzer.' But unless I am mistaken, I believe this was a maiden race, Donnaguska's first start, these kinds of things do happen more occasionally in races with young horses, most being first time starters, you can have an idea how a horse will run, but it's really impossible to predict she would have a huge kick like that. She could have even been spooked by an outside stimuli accidentally into going faster, into an almost 'flight mode.'
Hello Christine, I didn't know if Joe called you or not. DonnaGuska will be running tomorrow at Turfway in the 10 race she #8 I think the race is around 5:00 est. The race she's in will be with horses that have run multiple times. Hopefully she'll do good. I don't know if we'll make it or not I'll let you know if Billy and I will get to make it. donna
Hello Fifikusz, Donna is taking some time off. She hurt her foot on her last race. She's still green and we want to take a lot of care with her. Not only for the injury, but because we really care about her as we do all of our horses. THANK YOU for asking about her that really means a lot. Take care and I'll talk to ya soon. your friend, donna g. hays
buystocks, DonnaGuska has had 6 starts 2 Wins 2 Seconds 0 thirds and 2 off the board. We have her intered for a race on May 9th for the 9th race. I'm not sure if she's drawn in yet or not. Talk to Ya soon. Thanks, donna hays
ancestralblue, I'm not sure about the rest of the pedigree, I will ask Billy though. Yes, it was her very first race. We couldn't get over how well she did. The dealings I've had with a maiden horse they normally wouldn't pass one horse, much less the whole field. Thank you, donna
The pace was very fast….she was far back enough that she rounded the final turn by herself and just slingshotted off it….like Secretariat did on the first turn in the 1973 Preakness stakes….then he came right up the inside, saving a lot of ground. Perfectly timed.
Check out Calidoscopio's Brooklyn Hcp this past June, or some of Silky Sullivan's early races in '57/'58 where he'd come 25/40+ lengths off the lead and go by them as if they were walking...
OK, here's the scoop. At 2:20 Donna is dead last. At 2:22 her jock starts to whip her. Notice she is on the LEFT lead and hasn't changed for the home stretch. At 2:27 the jock gives her a couple more swipes. At 2:30 the jock pulls hard on the right rein, forcing her to finally switch to the right FRESH lead. THEN she has the kick to the wire. Racehorses are trained to switch leads to the new fresh lead for extra kick down the home stretch. She looks reluctant to switch, finally does, and zoom!
hey! i can argue and dont know if theres any video here at youtube at the moment but theres a horse name ''el equilibrio'' in my crountry puerto rico that he use to run 30 something lenght behind and he always find hes way home!
i agree with You on the two yearr olds. i like waiting 'till their four. That's when i would have the quarter horses trained. (i used to show cutting horses.) i don't know if Billy and Joe have Donna nominated for the Breeders Cup or not. i'm always the last to know any thing. LOL Have a good evening and stay warm. i know it's cold here, how about where You're from? donna
Jmarttt, i'm donna, the owner (with my husband billy) of donnaguska. We entered her in a stakes race, but she didn't draw in. That the kind of "freight train" runs that have people tearing up their tickets before they see the end.
Nice filly!
OMG I was not expecting that. Amazing.
Hello Christine,
I didn't know if Joe called you or not.

Never seen a close like this on dirt, turf I have but never dirt. Wow!
Be interesting to know.
Is the next race at Hawthorne as well?
I hope it's posted here. I don't have an OTB channel hookup.
Hello Fifikusz,
Donna is taking some time off. She hurt her foot on her last race. She's still green and we want to take a lot of care with her. Not only for the injury, but because we really care about her as we do all of our horses. THANK YOU for asking about her that really means a lot. Take care and I'll talk to ya soon.
your friend,
donna g. hays
LMAO wow that was great! Thanks for posting this video
buystocks,
Donnaguska will be running again on April 20th in the 6th race at Indiana Downs.
Thanks for your inquire.
donna
Nameofthepen,
Thank you for your reply also.
I think he was wraped up in the leader and the second horse. :)
donna
buystocks,
DonnaGuska has had 6 starts
2 Wins 2 Seconds 0 thirds and 2 off the board.
We have her intered for a race on May 9th for the 9th race. I'm not sure if she's drawn in yet or not.
Talk to Ya soon.
Thanks,
donna hays
ancestralblue,
I'm not sure about the rest of the pedigree, I will ask Billy though.
Yes, it was her very first race. We couldn't get over how well she did.
The dealings I've had with a maiden horse they normally wouldn't pass one horse, much less the whole field.
Thank you,
donna
The pace was very fast….she was far back enough that she rounded the final turn by herself and just slingshotted off it….like Secretariat did on the first turn in the 1973 Preakness stakes….then he came right up the inside, saving a lot of ground. Perfectly timed.
My dear, this was a 6 furlong race, a sprint, of COURSE the pace was fast!!. This is asinine to compare this to what Secretariat may have done.
She looks reluctant to switch, finally does, and zoom!
shammiedog yes
The horse looked like a linebacker/defensive back on a delayed blitz!!!
ancestralblue,
I didn't know if you knew or not but donnaguska will be in this Monday,
Thought you might want to know.
donna
I’m curious what her MPH was in the final drive in relation to the other horses, as well as compared to great horses in great victories.
@Alecramsay1227
Good to know they finally changed that. Thanks for the info. Do you know if the Standardbreds followed suit?
hey! i can argue and dont know if theres any video here at youtube at the moment but theres a horse name ''el equilibrio'' in my crountry puerto rico that he use to run 30 something lenght behind and he always find hes way home!
great run
i agree with You on the two yearr olds. i like waiting 'till their four. That's when i would have the quarter horses trained. (i used to show cutting horses.)
i don't know if Billy and Joe have Donna nominated for the Breeders Cup or not. i'm always the last to know any thing. LOL
Have a good evening and stay warm. i know it's cold here, how about where You're from?
donna
fifikusz,
