Jeff Lynne has one of the greatest singing voices in the modern period. Not to mention a genius songwriter. Even now in his 60's he still sounds perfect!
It's so awesome seeing his eyes, especially as he's talking. I absolutely love him and seeing his eyes as he talks just makes me fall head over heals for him all over again. It's like I began to suspect he was a robot or a fictional character, more of an archetype that a real person, even though I've actually met him in person. And he uses his eyes so expressively. You can just tell what a sincrre person he is if you ever had any doubts.
Sii. Que hombre tan simpatico, expresivo y relajado. Se ve tan cercano. Creo que lo sigue siendo actualmente, pero me encantaria poder ver sus ojos, sus gestos.
I love how the host asks him if the next album will be different than "Face The Music," with him and the audience having no idea how amazing "New World Record" and "Out Of The Blue" are going to be. They were in for a very pleasant surprise.
48 yrs later ...Strange Magic hasn't aged. This must have been just before the release of A New World Record...the first album I bought and played to death....❤
It's ok. I'm from the midlands too and everytime I go down south people say "I love your northern accent" so I'm a bit touchy about it! I love Jeff in this interview. He seems to be simultaneously, down to earth and a little bit eccentric!.xx
so rare when Jeff actually says much of anything when interviewed. also fun to think that as good and popular as Face the Music was that his best work was still ahead.
Of course all performers love America...It's got the largest numbers (of fans), and so a lot of money to be made there. When one makes it is the USA, one has really made it!
It's like going back in time. When he talks about the new album it's 'A New World's Record'. At the time he didn't know what we know now, that it was a great success!
I saw E.L.O live in Melbourne in 1977 when A new world record had just came out. I have to say I prefer the Roy Wood albums but there's no denying Jeff Lynne is a freakin genius. I would like to know how much they actually played live on stage. The music was extraordinarily complex.
This interview was actually early 1976. They mention that Face The Music has been out for awhile (it was released Oct 1975), they mentioned that Peter Frampton already had a number one album (his first No.1 LP Comes Alive! was released Jan. 1976 in Britain), and the question was asked if Strange Magic will be the next single (released Mar 1976). They talk about the next LP after Face The Music, and Jeff Lynne says it should be released "in September." A New World Record was released Oct 76.
I know this is an older clip, but I swear he's damn fine. He writes, he sings, he produces, he's funny, and I've never seen anyone else use this word in their comment, but he's sexy as hell, and it's not 1976 anymore. It's 2014 and he's still perfect.❤
I think you are absolutely right. It´s amazing that Jeff Lynne himself thought that Out of the Blue was his masterpiece of his career. It´s not a bad album and contains very good songs. But I think Jeff Lynne was fooled by his new success and it seen and watched in the Out of the Blue album and the pictures.
"Whispering Bob" creeps me out. Jeff seems very uncomfortable here, though very funny. Still I just love this video and watch it often. Thanks for posting it.
Jeff is a proud Brummie, he loves his background and Immortalised his childhood area in All Over the World, with the words " SHARD END MAN" he may live in the USA, but hes a Brummie
ha! When I bought the Out of the Blue album I would sit and stare at the poster & my eyes always gravitated towards his pic. I also stared at the lyrics. And the spaceship that came with. The one I accidently sat on & flattened. Never forgave myself for it.
Wow.. yes this is the first time I’ve ever seen his eyes! And he has such lovely eyes; he shouldn’t cover them up. Amazing to think what ELO would go on to do.. and now it’s fair to say they’re a lot bigger than Peter Frampton. No disrespect to him. ;)
Hate how fans call their favorite artists "legends" because they started their career in late 90s. Jeff Lynne is a true legend of music. Armchair Theatre and Long wave are timeless graceful perfections
That is definitely one of the more relaxed interviews I have seen or heard with Jeff. I have a radio transcription disc interview with Jim Ladd where he literally had to pry longer answers out of Jeff. I'd have thought he'd be more relaxed in a radio studio setting than on camera.
British announcer :::: and so here we have Jeff Lynne who is a local chap doing great in the States but sucking it up and struggling in the U.K.:::::: at least that's how I heard it....lol
This interview was recorded in the spring of 1976, the album that Jeff was working on was "A New World Record" which was released in the fall of 1976. ELO were still touring to promote the "Face the Music" album into the summer of 1976, I saw them play in July of that year at the Free Trade Hall, Peter Street in Manchester, UK. It was a very memorable gig, The Steve Gibbons Band were the support act. Former Move member Trevor Burton was the bass guitarist for T.S.G.B.
That was always my impression. With A New World Record he found the hit formula. There was no need for more exploration - and of course he became bored, which showed increasingly.
Ya había sacado obras maestras en álbumes como ELO 2, On the third day, Eldorado y Face the music pero ¡todavía no se conocía lo que se avecinaba!. Todas las joyas musicales que esperaban por salir en A new world record y Out of the blue :D
I wish he would have asked more questios about the "album" - that should have been New World Record - after Face The Music". I think NWR was their best album. Nice interview.
You can tell Jeff Lynn's talent when Roy Orbison,Springsteen,Bob Dylan,Tom Petty, and Jeff formed the Traveling Wilbury,s band and did venues with Roy they had Jeff arrange the songs they chose. not that they could, nt have, just they knew Jeff's abilities also.
I don´t think the eyes of Jeff Lynne look evil. I think he is a very intelligent looking without his famous sun glasses. Anyway Jeff Lynne is with Lennon and McCartney the most inportant and talented on pop- music composing. By the way Jeff is in a private life very shy person so it is understood all by this.
I agree. And disagree. I like the early albums, but its all in perspective because ELO went through six genres (in order from oldest album to Zoom) in my perspective: Psychadelic, Hard Rock, Orchestra, Disco, Electric, and then normal Rock n' Roll.
'No so succesful here in the UK, why do you think that is?'.. I can answer that; cos here in the UK we listen to SHIT and ignore good music. As true today as it was back then, with all UK 'music' now piped directly from Simon Cowells arse straight to Number 1. Astounding!
if you could if it was possible to improve the beatles it would only have been possible if jeff was a member he is one of the best song writers of all time i would not like to choose between him or lennon/macarthney pure genius and more importantly he comes across as a ordinary nice man the true mark of some one special
@trap0001 EXACTLY. I Know 30 bands that are brilliant and have been overlooked by the UK over the last 40 years for that reason. We have been dumbed down. N-Dubz anybody?
OMG! JEFF LYNNE HAS EYES!
Lovely ones too! 😘
And I thought he was born with sun glasses!🤣
Soooo BEAUTIFUL ❤️
Beautiful blues
Don't tell Ian Hunter or Graham Parker or even Whispering Bob
Love seeing Jeff without glasses;
We all do too!
He's adorable!
The most beautiful man there is anywhere. Can't believe he's 70. So adorable.
That he is......my Idol.....❤
He is actually 72.
He is just soooo GORGEOUS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
El es mi fantasia sexy y el mejor musico!
does Jeff still smoke?
Jeff Lynne has one of the greatest singing voices in the modern period. Not to mention a genius songwriter. Even now in his 60's he still sounds perfect!
dont forget genius producer as well. maybe the funniest guy in rock history to boot.
***** And he's a hottie as well as being a great producer and possessing a great singing voice. That's just my opinion.
Absolutely 100% agree!
LOVE this Man !❤
Brian Wilson > Frank Zappa > George Clinton> Paul McCartney > Jeff Lynne
Top five record producer-musicians of the classic rock/soul era
He’s just adorable,
Beautiful man❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
atractive man. He has 'something'
Love Jeff Lynne, one of my favourite musicians. He still sounds great today. Thanks for posting.
He still has a beautiful singing voice!
There is no debate or doubt- Jeff Lynne is a genius.
My lovely Jeff 👌❤
Jeff is a lovely gentleman!
Great interview, Jeff's songs were produced to perfection. Should be knighted for services to British music.. arise Sir jeff.
Sir Jeffrey Lynne.
Jeff Lynne is a genius in the music industry.
Wow his voice when he was younger
He has always had a beautiful voice!
Magic. just think, "A New World Record".. "Out Of The Blue".. "Discovery".. "Time" were still to come. What a Genius !!!
Gorgeous then,gorgeous now !
Jeff Lynne comes across as one of the most decent persons I've ever seen or heard from in Rock and Roll.
JohnQ1127 agree both in this early interview and recent ones
He is one of the most decent
God i wanna hug him
Love hearing his Brummie accent!
Jeff's speaking voice is as beautiful as his singing voice.
I love how the host asks him if the next album will be different than "Face The Music," with him and the audience having no idea how amazing "New World Record" and "Out Of The Blue" are going to be. They were in for a very pleasant surprise.
Gorgeous eyes !
I grew up listening to his top tunes. Great banging tunes and ahead of his times
Awesome interview...love Jeff's music for decades now..
So dang cute!!!
Cute and a wonderful humble man.
48 yrs later ...Strange Magic hasn't aged. This must have been just before the release of A New World Record...the first album I bought and played to death....❤
smoking in th studio during interviews! that was indeed another era! another time...the old happy days!!!
oh! my lovely Jeff!!
Just adorable!!
Ahhh the eyes, love them.
Beautiful blue!
I made that comment 14 years ago! 😯wow time flies and all that 😅
Oh yeah!!! Jeff Lynne, he was definitely a hottie!!! Love his music and love ELO! Makes me happy to listen to the old stuff!
@wayne goff ... Loosen up, Wayne baby! Jeff IS a hottie!
Im pretty sure hes kidding
That was my first thought too. I popped on this video and thought that this was the first time I had ever seen Jeff's eyes.
That would be David Arden, the notorious Don Arden's son, his manager at the time. Jeff was so cute here...loved him then, love him now.
See ya man!!
HE'S WEARING NO GLASSES!!! Can't believe my eyes!!!
BilisNegra he is very handsome!
@CallMeOgmios Mr. Blue Sky promo video....no glasses....it's 3 years after this video
Jeff has lovely eyes 👀 ❤️
@@ozarkmtnites two years actually.
beautiful blue eyes

I love Jeff in this interview. He seems to be simultaneously, down to earth and a little bit eccentric!.xx
What a top bloke. Best male vocalist ever in my humble opinion. He showed on the Zoom concert that he still has it. Awesome.
Jeff Lynne without his shades! A rare sight!
Love watching old footage like this, especially when u realise the material they discuss went on to be such classics!
so rare when Jeff actually says much of anything when interviewed. also fun to think that as good and popular as Face the Music was that his best work was still ahead.
had a big crush on him when I was a teenager, some of my gfs and me thought he was a fox
He still is, even in his 70's!
He is just dreamy❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
In love again, Jeff Lynne I adore you
Of course all performers love America...It's got the largest numbers (of fans), and so a lot of money to be made there. When one makes it is the USA, one has really made it!
It's like going back in time. When he talks about the new album it's 'A New World's Record'. At the time he didn't know what we know now, that it was a great success!
Yes..it was their breakthrough album after 3 albums didn't chart in the UK....started a run of 6 top ten albums, (2 number ones).
Love ELO,in love with Jeff Lynne ❤️
God I wished I was into ELO then as much as I have been since the early 90's. But I was only 9 at that time and not so aware of them.
This was right before he made one of their most successful albums ever.
I saw E.L.O live in Melbourne in 1977 when A new world record had just came out. I have to say I prefer the Roy Wood albums but there's no denying Jeff Lynne is a freakin genius. I would like to know how much they actually played live on stage. The music was extraordinarily complex.

They talk about the next LP after Face The Music, and Jeff Lynne says it should be released "in September." A New World Record was released Oct 76.
Jeff Lynne finally shows a human vice. First time I've ever seen him with a cigarette in his hand!!
I always fancied a cigarette after a "cigarette". Or a "Thingy" as Jeff calls them...
That hair. It never changes. It's the same 34 years later.
Jeff has always had great hair
Great to see such early footage ..jeff's young and quite confident, not seen that before !
We are all more confident when young. With age many people become more reserved.
I know this is an older clip, but I swear he's damn fine. He writes, he sings, he produces, he's funny, and I've never seen anyone else use this word in their comment, but he's sexy as hell, and it's not 1976 anymore. It's 2014 and he's still perfect.❤
It is strange to see Jeff without his shades. Good interview!
I think you are absolutely right.
It´s amazing that Jeff Lynne himself
thought that Out of the Blue was his
masterpiece of his career. It´s not a
bad album and contains very good songs.
But I think Jeff Lynne was fooled by his new success and it seen and watched

Cool Jeff! The best ever!
Jeff Lynne the BEST of the BEST ever!
"See ya man"... didn't know he could be that animated
I’d love to see an interview with Jeff Lynne and Robert Plant. Some of their vocal inflections and speech mannerisms sound similar.
Good ear! Robert Plant is from W. Bromwich, 7 miles from Birmingham
"Whispering Bob" creeps me out. Jeff seems very uncomfortable here, though very funny. Still I just love this video and watch it often. Thanks for posting it.
Living Legend a very talented guy from my home town of Birmingham ! - as his new album Alone in the Universe Rocks Too ! *******PdH
+Paul David Jeff's good for a bloomin' Limey!
The man is incredible, loved interview, and he has beautiful eyes, but love him with shades 😋😎
This is the first time I see him without glasses...
He's got lovely eyes, I don't know why he covers them up all the time.
Very beautiful blues!
Very good looking gent! I feel somewhat weird about that... he’s my dad’s age!😆🤷🏻♀️
Jeff Lynne resides in LA now, not Birmingham anymore. So he does love America (:
Jeff is a proud Brummie, he loves his background and Immortalised his childhood area in All Over the World, with the words " SHARD END MAN" he may live in the USA, but hes a Brummie
@@jamesbates5227 "Shard End... and"
ha! When I bought the Out of the Blue album I would sit and stare at the poster & my eyes always gravitated towards his pic. I also stared at the lyrics. And the spaceship that came with. The one I accidently sat on & flattened. Never forgave myself for it.
That "material" will end up being Mr Blue Sky among many others.
I confess, I love ELO - HEAR MY CONFESSION!
strange to see jeff so peppy, he's usually so well reserved. i guess they caught him early.
Thank you! From a huge Jeff Lynne fan.
Seems like a fairly humble guy..
He is and always was a humble guy
He seems shy - nothing at all wrong with that by the way. Very talented individual.
Wow.. yes this is the first time I’ve ever seen his eyes! And he has such lovely eyes; he shouldn’t cover them up. Amazing to think what ELO would go on to do.. and now it’s fair to say they’re a lot bigger than Peter Frampton. No disrespect to him. ;)

thank you very very much for posting this rare interview, these kind of things are impossible to get, thenk you again
An avid ELO fan from Uruguay
That is definitely one of the more relaxed interviews I have seen or heard with Jeff. I have a radio transcription disc interview with Jim Ladd where he literally had to pry longer answers out of Jeff. I'd have thought he'd be more relaxed in a radio studio setting than on camera.
What a treasure.
British announcer :::: and so here we have Jeff Lynne who is a local chap doing great in the States but sucking it up and struggling in the U.K.:::::: at least that's how I heard it....lol
The video seems timeless to me.
That album he's working on must have been out of the blue, one of their best IMO
This interview was recorded in the spring of 1976, the album that Jeff was working on was "A New World Record" which was released in the fall of 1976. "Hiya David!"
Was he drunk or something? lol!
And I love that other guy - best voice ever, I reckon ;)
So that's what Jeff Lynne's eyes look like! He's always wearing shades.
I wish he would have asked more questios about the "album" - that should have been New World Record - after Face The Music". I think NWR was their best album. Nice interview.
Wagner, Beethoven, Puccini, Verdi, Jeff Lynne...........................
idiot
Posts the same stupid Copy Paste rubbish on every other ELO video
@@cbennett196631 Every single time I see this, it pisses me of that he left the Beatles, Freddie Mecury and even ELO Bev Bevan out
Nice detective work! :D

He's talking about producing the next album, which would have been "A New World Record". How historic is this?
You can tell Jeff Lynn's talent when Roy Orbison,Springsteen,Bob Dylan,Tom Petty, and Jeff formed the Traveling Wilbury,s band and did venues with Roy they had Jeff arrange the songs they chose. not that they could, nt have, just they knew Jeff's abilities also.
Sorry, no Springsteen anywhere near the Wilbury's. He couldn't hold a candle to them anyway (IMO).
You mean Harrison...not Springsteen
i wonder whatever became of that record..of thats right, its one of my top 5 favourites!
America Rocks, and when we do,It's to Jeff and the Boys...
The 70s.. times were so simple back then. Even though I wasn't alive! haha!
Que lata que nunca Jeff Lynne vino a sudamerica😔 y ahora con la pandemia quizas cuando va poder retomar su gira??🤔🤷🏻♀️
