met bev and he was such a humble man..a great career and one of the best drummers ever imo .that band those magnificent 7 were the best band around especially live
I always loved the sound of Bev's solid drumbeat and continuity and that's initially what drew me to the Move, and later, ELO. One Summer Dream is a favourite of mine, and the drumming at the start of Mr Blue Sky is superb, along with the ending of Across the Border. The 18 minutes or so of Concerto for a Rainy Day is the most magnificent music I have ever heard, and Bev's drumming was a huge part of that ELO sound. Bev is to me, the best drummer of all the bands I've ever heard. Out of the Blue is the finest double album ever. That is just magnificent music. Bev drew me to ELO, and Jeff Lynne, and my life was made a whole lot better for knowing their music. They, together, were the bedrock of my life, and at 66 now, I'm loving them still. I listen to ELO almost every day. They lift me, like nothing else. Rest in peace, Richard. Best wishes and good health to you, Jeff. And Bev, thanks a million and best wishes and good health to you as well. Alastair, from Glasgow.
Thanks. Great interview and he seems like a genuinely great guy. I agree with him on depression, to not sweat the small things and realize there's always someone worse off.
For me personally, The Move were absolutely the tops. As an young American kid I was mesmerized by The Move. The Move, Small Faces and The Who. Nothing like them. I know Trevor and Roy put the Move down as just a Pop Top-40 group but I fail to see them realize the impact they had on the youth of the day and still today. We still love and appreciate their talent as a band and their music. Yes, musically they must go forward but never forget your roots. I'm 75 years old and for me The Move still are one of the greatest groups ever. I hope the former members realize this. Bev seems to know. Come on Roy and Trevor get humble!
The Move were my second favourite band after the Beatles, and their rise coincided with a particularly happy and carefree period of my life, so became in my mind indelibly associated with that. A bit surprised to hear that Roy is apparently dismissing them the way you say. He's never struck me as the type to take himself and his music too seriously (witness his antics with Wizzard). I enjoyed all the Move's work, but that first line-up before Ace's departure was really something special. A pity I was just too young to see them live. I did see the foursome (post-Ace) early in '69 but they had a bit of an off-night and tbh it was rather a let-down. However, this was shortly before Trev left, which may have had something to do with it. The final phase, with Jeff collaborating, also had the potential to do something really special. Unfortunate that it couldn't continue. My understanding is that Roy couldn't stand the thought of having to have any further dealings with Don Arden, for which he can hardly be blamed.
I think Jeff had fun with the title. It's Discovery- (with the dash at the end). Just take the last 4 letters and the dash and move them to the front... Very-disco
I don’t know the names of too many drummers. Of course, Ringo, Phil Collins, Don Henley… Now, those guys generally had bigger parts because they either sang lead most of the time or at least some of the time. Bev Bevan is the only drummer who I recognize instantly no matter who he played with.
One of the most underrated drummers in rock, imo. I always dug ELO before Discovery. After New World Record I lost interest. I still listen to the early stuff.
What a guy! Love that he said 'Eagles' and not 'The Eagles' - real pro. Shame he was a Tory tho... :( And how amusing is it that Jeff still plays his drums the 'Bev Bevan' way!
Weird line of questioning...perhaps they were generic questions asked of every guest...the tory thing always leaves me a bit cold but I love ELO for their music not their politics...I wouldn't buy a Jeremy Corbyn album
Bev Bevan in 1981 thinks the new ave music coming out was bullshit. 😂😂😂😂😂 Abd those new wave musicians he thinks are crappy became household names and look down on the indie rock generation.

Yup, yup!
He really looked a lot more presentable with straight(er) hair, imvho. I know, who gives a bloody care, just a casual observation.

About bloody time this resurfaced
Brilliant interview and what a top bloke too 👏😃👍
I live in America, can I ask what a BLOKE means?
@@sarahloughlin3724 Bloke is British for a guy, usually a good guy who is cool and likable.
Bev yes definitely a very very nice man and TOP ACE DRUMMER be very very tight to beat BEV BEVAN CHEERS BEV GOD BLESS U AND JEFF AND RICHARD
Thank you so much for posting 🥰 Bev may be a rock god, but he's also a decent, humble and down to earth guy xxx
We wont forget you, Messer Bevan
I had this interview on a VHS tape in the early 1980s. There were a few ELO bits and pieces on that tape.
Thanks. Great interview and he seems like a genuinely great guy. I agree with him on depression, to not sweat the small things and realize there's always someone worse off.
Bev is so charming and talented.
So great that artists have their foots solid on firm Earth. Why be a jackass if you do not have too.
I like how they looped the intro @ 0:01

I worked with Carl Wayne. What a lovely, genuine guy he was, like Bev is, and what a great rock voice he had. Rest in peace, Carl. 🎶🎶
My parents were in elementary school during The Move days. They married late ELO days.
Bev always had a good head on his shoulders!
THANKS!!!...
such a legend and an amazing power house drummer
Bev is such a fantastic drummer and human
Good interview. Some bizarrely personal and dark questions. But decent all the same.
I love this!
Love that the outro is the song Bev refused to play on.
Yeah, you'd have thought that the researchers would have done a better job there. A bit of an insult to put up a Jeff Lynne loop.
I never considered Discovery as disco and I love disco and Discovery!
Ditto!
I think Jeff had fun with the title. It's Discovery- (with the dash at the end). Just take the last 4 letters and the dash and move them to the front... Very-disco
Disco very
thanks Tony. have it but this is better in queality !!!!!
A real Gentleman!
Enjoyed this, Thanks ! Top bloke is BB

❤
Funny he mention Rolling Stones at the end like they were really old. They are still active 43 years later!

So Jeff Lynne was playing football, that must have been a fun with him : )
Time has proven that Bev was corrrect!
Music started to get rubbish in the 80s,worse in the 90s and unlistenable since the start of the millenium!
One of the most underrated drummers in rock, imo. I always dug ELO before Discovery. After New World Record I lost interest. I still listen to the early stuff.
A New World Record was probably their peak. But you didn't enjoy Out of the Blue? Another masterpiece to me-
4meters height Bev, that was so shocked me
Amazing video. Is there a live recording of “it’s over” by ELO
“The numbers”. Jimmy Page also uses this term
What a guy! Love that he said 'Eagles' and not 'The Eagles' - real pro. Shame he was a Tory tho... :( And how amusing is it that Jeff still plays his drums the 'Bev Bevan' way!
Jesus Christ and His Holy Word is the truth to life..
.wise men still seek Him !!! Bless you Bev Bevan !
12:40 - you play a lot of what? :)
Soccer, squash and tennis.
Was thinking how humble and candid his answers were till he had to throw support behind Margaret Thatcher!
“I want to make it absolutely clear that no one in ELO is gay!” Bev Bevan, Story Of ELO book 1980.
Sweet guy and I was getting to like him until he said he was a staunch Tory. Who knows, he may have seen sense in the years since then.
Weird line of questioning...perhaps they were generic questions asked of every guest...the tory thing always leaves me a bit cold but I love ELO for their music not their politics...I wouldn't buy a Jeremy Corbyn album
Margaret Thatcher was a Great leader and along with Ronald Reagan helped defeat communism in East Germany and Europe! 😊
Bev Bevan in 1981 thinks the new ave music coming out was bullshit.
😂😂😂😂😂
Abd those new wave musicians he thinks are crappy became household names and look down on the indie rock generation.
Ironic as the next ELO album was heavily influenced by the new wave/synth pop vogue of the early Eighties
Not what he said.
