  • We finally start on the block and beam floor on this extension we’re doing..
    The concrete beams and concrete blocks are a good alternative to a solid concrete over site floor.
    Having a block and beam floor or a suspended floor stops the risk from soil heave movement which is what you risk from a solid ground bearing slab.

    Hello, what is the black plastic film? Is it a waterproof film? What is its function? I look forward to your answer.

    Hi might be a silly question but dont you need dpm on top of the soil to prevent damp?

      The slab has membrane then polythene on it before the concrete goes in

    That looks like normal bricklayers mortar? Thought it should be at least 4:1?

    They haven't laid dpc below floor blocks where they go from beam to wall at perimeters of walls. This is a build regs requirement.

    I wonder when you put the DPC on then add a brick on top, how does the brick below the DPC connects to brick below and brick above? Surely the plastic does not stick on mortar?

      ...it cant go anywhere with that weight on it - probably doesn't really need to stick.

      Hi mate, the standard 152mm concrete beams weigh 35kg per metre, although they feel like they weigh a lot more than that !!

    Why the suspended floor?.Is there an issue with the soil?

    • @extendaspace-constructionc821
      @extendaspace-constructionc821  2 года назад

      It’s because it’s such a big area, it stops any soil heave coming up though the floor which would in turn crack it

      - In the beautiful British building, what is the benefit of leaving a distance between the ground and The blocks ??
      - Thank you, Mr
