I’m so proud of you for standing up to your parents and up for yourself and the other girls. I am a 40 year old mother. I had a very difficult time as a teenager and was in a similar facility when I was a young teen. The place was called children’s home of Detroit. I was permanently traumatized from my experience there over 20 years ago. When I had my own children, 4 girls and then a boy, my oldest put me through the ringer. She was into all kinds of trouble and I came to a point where I felt I couldn’t handle her anymore. My mother had begun to convince me that I needed to place her somewhere like I had been when I was a teen. I personally spoke with your parents in 2013. I was told it was a faith based horse ranch and they would be able to reach my daughter and rehabilitate her. She was 14 at the time. I almost sent her there....like literally my mom and I were making the plans to drive to Missouri and bring her there. A few days before hand I prayed on it and was flooded with memories and emotions about my time in placements as a teen. I remembered the horrific experiences I had with starvation, push up punishments, as well as being spied on while I bathed and unrealistic expectations on obedience. ( like touching both walls in a wide hallway that my arms were not long enough to reach or walking up fake stairs) and then being punished with 200 pushups for the inability to comply. All those feelings rushed back to me and I decided I could not and would not give up on my daughter and that no matter what I had to endure I couldn’t take the chance of sending her somewhere and her feeling like I had given up on her and also taking the chance that she could be emotionally or physically abused. Not to mention the fact that she could come out worse than when she went in like what happened to me. I am so relieved that I didn’t send my daughter. I am also so very sorry for what all you girls went through. I do truly understand and can empathize. You can’t understand what it’s like until you are in that kind of situation. And to all the parents of wayward teens out there. I know it can be really hard at times! Just don’t give up on your kids and don’t put them in a place you’re not certain of or at all unless it’s absolutely necessary. My daughter and I got through those rough teenage years and we are so close now because of it! She is 21 and mama herself now. And Please remember that Time heals. I will be thinking of you all and praying for the permanent closure of that awful place.

I came from a traumatic childhood that had nothing to do with these “schools,” but I can relate to the trauma and I just want to see justice done for these people. I can’t believe this is still going on right now. The ones who defend the schools are like the golden child in a narcissistic family who, whenever another family member points out the toxicity of their family/childhood, jumps to defend it, talk about how great their childhood was because they followed the rules, and that all the abuse you got was deserved. There’s so much I want to say but I can tell that you have a pure heart and that your experiences have caused you to gain empathy rather than become like your parents. ❤️

I just found out about this. You are so brave and amazing for speaking out. My brother was sent to a place for troubled teens (my parents tried everything, they were naive and regret it to this day like 20 years later). It was in Mexico called Casa By The Sea. He wasn’t allowed to call/write until he was at a certain level and they kept bumping him down levels. After 15 months, we went there to save him under the guise of a visit but we took him. I will never forget that day. Found out many horrible things, many that he wouldn’t and still won’t talk about. The place was shut down by authorities not long after. I could go on forever. The no calling/writing should be a HUGE trigger for anybody trying to find a place to help their troubled kid. Avoid these places at all cost. Do your research. I commend you for what you are doing, I really do. I wish my brother had somebody like you to save him from what he went through. Thank you.

I just saw Illuminaughti's little documentary / video article on Circle Of Hope; I believe you, I hope you never lose the strength to keep exposing this abusive place that utterly bastardises what Christianity is supposed to be about.
I wish I knew how to submit a picture to a comment. I previously commented about a similar home I was in called Children’s home of Detroit. They have since closed but the testimonies are very similar to those for the ranch. Places like these need to be closed PERMANENTLY. They serve no purpose for our young people. As a society we need to be bring families back together. Removing a child from a family shouldn’t be an option unless there has been a crime committed. And even then the children should be in state regulated juvenile facilities if their crimes are that severe. Maybe us parents need to work on our parenting skills if we feel like our kids have gotten out of hand. It’s not always the teens faults and they are not the only ones that need to change! Mending my daughter and mines relationship was something that WE had to do as a family. I had to make changes too!!

Im general they believe that it will straighten out their teen who is misbehaving/"being rebellious" or having other issues such as suicide attempts in their eyes. Parents in the U.S. can sign over custody to "transporters" who will show up in the middle of the night and take the child forcefully from their bed to these places, and to the facilities themselves on a whim. This is not legal in Europe from my understanding.
StegaSquirtle i don’t think it is legal in europe. in the uk, any job involving children, whether that is sports coaches through to schools to childminders, have such strict laws and are checked on so frequently. they are not allowed their job (even volunteers) until they go through such a strict procedure. that is why i have never heard of teachers abusing, sleeping etc with their pupils in the uk.
