You and I Have You are favorites. Love Karen's duet with herself on I Have You.

I read an interview with RC where he dumped on their rendition of Kind of Hush, saying it was recorded perfectly in its original release and that he was almost regretful of covering it. I had only known of their version and loved it, not knowing as a kid it was a remake. And so I far prefer their version over Herman’s.

Me too! Love Herman's Hermits but Carpenters hit a home run with their version.
It will always be in my top 10 favorites by them.I love the faster version they do in concert even more!

Love Love Love IT! Thank you for pulling back the curtain so we can better understand how their magic was captured and created. I’m not sure what you mean by the term “phasing” I know what a studio phaser is..

Sandy should have been released as a single.

I can't believe how close "I Can't Stay Mad at You" is to "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do." That would be a lawsuit today,..I wish Karen and Richard would have completed their vision to blend those two songs together. I always wondered if Toni Tennille singing "Sedaka is back.." at the end of "Love Will Keep Us Together" inspired Karen to sing "DeShannon is back.." at the end of "Boat to Sail." I also wished Karen and Richard would have done their own backup vocals on "I Need to Be in Love." I always felt the The O.K. Chorale made their material sound stuffy...

I agree with you regarding the OK chorale, it forced their sound into elevator music (which I have way too much admiration and respect for their talents to be put in that category).

Great video. I’m not Richard Carpenter but I identify as him at this moment so…I’m glad you enjoyed my album Kind of Hush. I’m humbled.

I like Richard's analysis of the title track, "A Kind of Hush". The double-tracking of lead vocal right through the song, to me, robbed the song of the intimacy we could hear in the earlier hit version by Herman's Hermits. The best popular voice in the business really needed to be heard with all the natural expression and timbre, as far as possible - and definitely in verses. If this did not work for this song, maybe the song was not an ideal choice.

I have read that Linda Ronstadt’s Cry like a Rainstorm was the first made on purpose contemporary album but I would say Hush is.
I never understand how “You” was passed over as a single. I may have remixed it with a little less phase with some electric piano to sweeten the cake, like they did with other singles.

I wonder if Richard kept the work leads for each song?

Regarding the song Hush, since Richard removed the synth, is there also a version with Karen’s doubled lead removed?
