I never saw this clip before, but with the way George was screwing around, I knew he was going to lose his space. You can't leave a space like that open in New York for that long
My dad used to do this too. Obsessively look for parking spots where he didn't have to pay. Until my mother eventually pointed out to him that he has been paying for parking his entire life. In time. All the lost hours he spent looking for parking when he could have spent that time doing what he came to those spots to do. He's never been obsessed since.
There is always a balance, but this is a mistake many, many folks make. They make all these ridiculous endeavors to save money, never stopping to consider how much of their precious time is being lost because of it.
Yep. I was imagining myself being the driver of the car that took the spot. I imagined talking to myself about what the car in front was doing, and giving them enough time, until it became obvious they didn't want the space, so I took it.
I love the moment of the truce when the ice cream truck had to go in and out. And when Jerry asks little Matthew about the closure of his father's store- something Matthew knows nothing about.
Did you know the ice cream truck driver is actually Michael Costanza, the real life friend of Jerry whose last name was used for George. He only did one cameo and that was it!
This happened when I was a kid living in Chicago. Me and my mom were walking into our apartment and two guys were in a spot just like this. They weren’t even arguing, but had decided to spend the entire night out there for that one spot. Sure enough they were there the next morning
This is why free parking in the city centers shouldn't exists. When something valuable is given free, people feel entitled to it and will over consume it. For example, my family had 2 cars and 1 dedicated spot in the apartment. The one driven more often gets the spot, the one that sits idle more is parked on the street. That way we don't have to find parking all the time, but that also means that we are sequestering that space from everybody else. I see it all the time, cars that barely move are parked on the street for days. Basically free storage at government expense.
George got half his car in the spot so he obviously wasn't 3 cars out when mike got to the spot. It's George's spot. When Mike was close he would have seen George reversing in.

However, Mike is also right that George wasted too much time 3 spaces out talking when he should have just backed in like Elaine told him to and not waste time talking. I mean, if there is a car that far out and not moving after a certain amount of time, then most would think your not going to park and are just doing something else.

That depends on the cost of parking compared to the amount of time parked and the amount of time to find a spot to park.
