This movie is a classic and will never get old or boring to watch, despite some CGI may be a bit outdated it’s still an entertaining movie one Of Brendan’s best
Such a great film. Feels like a spiritual successor to the Indiana Jones movies and old pulp action stories. Brendan Frasier is a treasure of an actor.
And it spawned an animated series, which I find did a better job with Alex O'Connell than Mummy Returns and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Not that I hate Returns, but it did repeat a lot of the first movie while also adding in a lot not needed, like Evie being a reincarnated Nefytiri, so we could have a cat fight with Anck-Sunamun. But it's an okay follow-up, unlike Dragon Emperor.
Honestly, the CGI isn't even that terrible. They really poured money and their souls into this movie and it shows. Plus it's not over the top. Maybe it's my inner child going back to the first time I watched this movie and me just being so amazed because I've never seen anything in a movie like that before. I still get the creeps when he is a rotten walking corpse.
People underestimate how good cgi was as an effect, it looked phenomenal in even early movies because of stylization, giving us a hightened version rather than replacement of reality!
Beni: "O'Connell! Hey, O'Connell! It looks to me like I've got all the horses!" Rick: "Hey, Beni! Looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the river!" Contender for the best taunting scene in a long time.
I loved this film and miss Brendan Frasier and his films. Sad what happened to him and what caused him to stop appearing so much. He is still a good actor and I am glad to see he still has it
for the last 20 years, this movie remains an A+ instant classic for me. its terrifying, its action packed, its funny, its got great characters, great actors and it doesnt compromise itself for a specific audience.
Seeing this pop up in my subscriptions made my day! This is one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween; just a super fun action adventure full of homages to the classic Boris Karloff original. Great review, Decker!

Before Stephen Sommers was picked to direct the film, Wes Craven, John Landis, John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Clive Barker, George Romero, Mick Garris, and Joe Dante were considered for the project back in the early 90's. Sommers a huge fan of the original film, was picked after his last movie, DEEP RISING bombed at the box office in 1998. In fact, the Joe Dante remake of "The Mummy" as written by John Sayles, had it set in modern times and as a tragic love story with Daniel Day-Lewis (The Crucible) as the Mummy.
Aw yes, one of the classic cases of the remake that works. And i am bias towards this frachise because i LOVE studying ancient egypt as a hobby. Also Brendan Frasier is the best underrated actor in the business, glad he's FINALLY getting the recognition he deserves

Honestly,Jonathan is my favorite character in this whole series. And the Mummy legitimately is the Indiana Jones for the generation of kids who grew up in the early 2000s.
I've been told that I used to watch this on tape when I was like 4 or something. We got the Mummy on tape from KFC when they used to do that here in Australia and I spent most of my time rewinding and playing the tape at like 4 years ago, the only time I cried about this movie was when I accidentally ruined the tape by watching it so many times. That's why this movie is a gem to me.
Huh, wasn't expecting this. It's ironic the last two Conventions I was at I got to meet Brendan Fraser and Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay), both pretty nice guys. Also this movie rocks and more in line with what the Dark Universe could/should have been.
Dude, thank god you got this review out so fast! Topical and timely, I was just trying to figure out whether I want to head to the theater to see this right now
Ah The Mummy, it's a great movie and the acting is exactly as it should be for this type of movie. Slightly hammy and full of glorious chewing of the scenery. Great stuff and great review Decker my dude Keep up the good work
What should have happened in Mummy 3 is that Eve gets her Egyptian royal status back and is now princess of her mansion in London. That’s what fans wanted to see.
This is one of those movies where it's not a true masterpiece, it's still very entertaining and fun. Highly recommended this and The Mummy Returns, it's good
A real blast from the past this one is. Such a fun adventure flick. The CGI did not age to well, true, but the film as a whole still is a great watch. and as always, great review Decker
I do miss the editor and behind the scene notes at the end of your videos, but I understand why you took them out. I just liked reading the little things about your processes making the review or just other little things you wanted to mention.
We need these types of movies back which, as an upcoming screenwriter, I hope that i can make one day. Many adventure movies nowadays always end up having sense of cynicism and always play it seriously, this movie does the absolute opposite and has aged wonderfully
This was my first introduction to the horror genre when I was about 8 or 9, thanks to my mom. I remember Imhotep's death at the end scaring the shit out of me, but I loved this movie and over two decades later I still love it.
Fun fact. At 22:20, it took nearly two seconds for the light to reflect off of all the mirrors. Which means the total travel length from the first mirror to the last was roughly 400,000 miles.
Omg I've been waiting for this review for sooo long I absolutely adore this movie it's my favourite movie of all time loved watching it when I was growing up
In fairness about the cat thing, Ardeth did mention that while Imhotep was in the transitional stage of regenerating himself he was vulnerable to cats. Once he was pretty much fully regenerated they didn't effect him anymore.
14:12 " ... end user agremrnt...death will come on swift wings to whoever opens this chest...Decker on his tablet...ehhh, whatever, whatever, accept..."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I got such a good laugh from that! Thank you Decker!
To me the Mummy 1 and 2 were kind of "The son of Indiana Jones" - the same kind of over-the top action adventure with a hint of the supernatural, set back in the "olden days". As you say, not perfect, but pretty damned good. :) Part 3 - so-so.
This is a fun review of an imperfect film that still manages to entertain twenty two years plus after its release on the big screen. I dig the action set pieces as well as the physical/spoken comedy of which may have been inspired by Army of darkness in its tone, both of which can be considered to be in the horror light category. This isn’t a bad thing and helped the films post theatrical popularity a great deal imho.

Just finished the Pathfinder adventure Mummy's Mask, basically a strong nod of an adventure to this movie. So much so that I played Rick as a character, Gunslinger with a small dip into Bard with the Archaeologist archetype. It was great.
But then again, video game-based movies are 99% pretty bad. Only Tomb Raider was successful enough to have a sequel, the rest are painfully mediocre to bad. Mostly mediocre. Thing is, it's extremely hard to condense 50+ hours of plots in a game for 120 minutes of screentime.
