I believe it was my inktense collection that started me on my artistic journey ( bought with 50th bday money as an investment in myself) & collection of different mediums, what i liked about them also was the ability to use them on material also.
I love the colors and patterns you use; very helpful to hear what different product strengths are. Thanks for being my company for the morning mug of tea 🌞.
Hello Natasha, thank you very much for the surprising video, I was very happy about it! The colours you have chosen are beautiful. I got the Albrecht Dürer watercolour brush markers for Christmas. I love them. I also have Derwent Inktense pencils, but they are not quite permanent. They do smudge a bit when I go over them with water. That's a shame. But bark is my favourite for dark browns. Unfortunately, I didn't store my Pitt Pens horizontally and they dried out a little bit. I will have to buy new ones. They are simply irreplaceable for mixed media works. I loved your sketches in your Sketchbook:). Thank you very much for sharing. Take care, and have a lovely weekend. Gabi:)
Yes the Inktense are water proof once they are dry and as long as all of the pigment has been activated. Great video Natasha ❤ I love a good chatty swatchy video 😊
How great to have a surprise gift of a video! And a mini art haul too It's inspiring to hear how you chose colours and materials, and how you will use them in your amazing artworks. The second goache/watercolour palette looks great too.The very first artist quality pencils I purchased were the Derwent inktense pencils and they are still my favourite today, they are perfect for mixed media because they are waterproof when dry so are great for layering over.If you store the dual ended markers horizontally it should even up the colour at both ends over time. I may order the three drawer chest from Jackson's,be a great addition to my small studio space and I love that you have allocated it specifically for your mixed media supplies,so you have them all to hand in one place when you want to use them.as a mixed media artist myself I'm always inspired by your perspective and insights into mixed media.(Matt) P.s hope you and Dominic are both continuing to get better each day. the coloursoft pencils are great to use over watercolours or watercolour markers
Hi Matt! I've always stored the watercolour markers flat but I've had this problem from the very beginning where they're different colours at either end. I still love them anyway! The little three drawer chest has been a great addition to my storage. Kind of tempted to get a second one too! It makes finding the right colour so much easier. :) We're getting better, thank you! Much, much better than we were, but still a bit more tired than usual. Bloomin' virus!!
@@NatashaNewtonArt Glad to haer you and Dominic are gettig better, just pace yourselves as you rcover, set a pace that works for you both as you continue to get better. I love that in this video we got to see how you create your trees and the textures on them and that we also got a glimpse into your sketchbooks as well to see how you work with mixed media. So stunning sketches a liitle reminiscent of Hockney.I did order a second three drawer unit from jacksons as well as I know I will fill the first one I ordered and they are the perfect size for my studio space..Take care both of you have a great weekend as well.(matt)
Your mixed media videos always inspire me! I love my inktense pencils, they're so versatile. They're waterproof when dry so long as they have been fully activated - if there's any dry pigment remaining on the page, that will, of course, be activated when you add more water (I may have been a bit heavy-handed when I first started using them and learnt this the hard way!). The coloursoft set i have is my favourite for smooth gradient colour blends - they seem to just melt into each other with just a couple of light layers.
Loving the surprise video, thanks for your summation of your new products. I found it very interesting to watch how you apply all the different textures. Your bird painting is great, thank you for sharing.
Natasha, thank you for this spontaneous sharing. I’m enjoying your energy and apparent pleasure combining these materials tools media and colors. You’ve become so in much more robustly well in yourself . I’m inspired coming to the t good step after these years. A la Marquez, ‘Art in the time of Covid’ . Stay well.
Beautiful artwork Natasha, so gorgeous!❤ You mentioned that the dual tipped brush pens vary between the colours of the thick and thin ends. This could be to do with how they've been stored. They need to be stored flat so that the paint can reach both ends. I know you store yours flat because you have those lovely new storage drawers but perhaps in the shop or warehouse they were stored upright? Hopefully they'll even out with time. Loved your swatching of your new pens, I'm tempted to get some more pens!🥰xx
Your videos are so enjoyable Natasha. The funny thing is, I have some of those supplies already and would not have realized that they could be used in the way you have done. thank you again, and welcome back! Im going to try the tree now
The inktense bark pencil is my favorite. I use it to layout (very lightly) my sketch/painting. I’ll often then use it to make an underpainting that I go over with gouache or casein paint once it is dry. I loved seeing you demonstrate your process. It’s so helpful to watch how other artists approach their work. Your sketchbook examples are lovely, but I especially like the small ones! Now, I’m going to have to try some of these pens, especially the Pitt pens. I only have a few Tombows that I play with.
What an inspiring video! These awesome Pit Artist pens with a thick brush tip 😍 I haven’t known them yet. Thank you so much for sharing! To the layering problem after Neocolor 2: If I use Necolor 2 as the last layer and I want to still change a bit but I’m not able to go over again, then I use a bit of water on the last Neocolor 2 layer so I can lift up some color then. And after drying you can go over again 😊 I hope this was understandable..
Thank you for sharing your play-time with us! Also, i own the Inktense Bark pen and i LOVE it so very much! It was my main pen whilst doing small water-colors of the coast of Cornwall last fall. It's such a beautiful and versatile pen. i hope it brings you heaps of joy!
Your videos are such a treat for the eyes😍 The demonstration on how you choose colors and build up layers was very helpful and inspiring. And you sketchbooks - you could sell some of the artwork with instructions on how to recreate it or push it in a different direction. I would by that package! Thanks for sharing😘
Hi Natasha, this was a brilliant video, Thankyou for sharing how you layer it has inspired me to do more with different art materials. I love your layering work. Stunning sketchbook work, you are an amazing artist who really inspires me. Sending you lots of love xxx 🥰
I do find it interesting to see the different materials and how they work together and layer. It’s odd, I love seeing texture in other people’s work but when it comes to my own I get all annoyed if everything doesn’t look smooth. 😅 Huh, I think I somehow missed the sketchbook time video from December. I will have to watch it soon. I really like the spread you did with the birds and tree branches.
beautiful, beautiful birds! ❤and I loved seeing that beautiful tree emerge before my eyes. I was shocked to hear that you don't ususally "wash" out the Caran D'ache 2's they are so lovely and pigmented as a watercolor. But I see now that its very dense the way you use them , I will have to try that,
Gorgeous color choices I adore a muted pallette, its funny how the windsor & newton and albrecht durer are opposite with their color intensity on each nib side. Ik windsor & newton use pigments as apposed to ink so maybe that's why? And how easily it saturates the different nib sizes perhaps. I love the look of mixed media and it does look so fun, I just get so detail oriented with whatever medium I'm using initially that by the time I stop to use something else I don't want to cover up my hard work 😅 the techniques of mixing on top of color to change it slightly, or add texture is really cool, I love that you still see the layers underneath, even with more opaque mediums it's more accented. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums along with some markers because of that, ofc with markers and pencils it can be more opaque/blended the more you build, and I do so many layers I worry about that, but I would love to try using them this way. I desperately want those albrecht drurers too, I've been eyeing them for so long now this just gives me that much more incentive to snag them up 😂
I loved this. I don't do mixed media but you make me want to. You're my favorite MM artist and videos like this are inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing.
This was so enjoyable to watch. I have the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer markers but not the dual marker Pitt artist pens. Will have to get some. I also have the Neo IIs. Love them. And the Faber Castell water soluble pencils.Thank you.
I’d love to see you use AD Watercolour Markers with water more, they blend out beautifully. I find it harder to get the W&N ones to move it’s super fussy on the paper. Thanks for the inspiration I might need to get my Neocolors and Pitt pens out :) I sold my Inktense I just didn’t enjoy them, I’m in the minority I know lol.
Thank you, I do try to make an effort with them! As for the Neocolors, I have a few broken ones in there (I'm heavy handed!) and some are a bit grubby/used & loved. ;)
One thing with the water colour markers and the Faber Castle markers, I apply them to a pallet paper and then use my brush to pick up the color and apply them to my canvas/paper. It’s especially good when I need just a bit of a colour.
Hi Natashia, I enjoyed this video. I've been struggling to get back into my art, I haven't been in my studio for months...this has helped me. Thanks so much 😊

They don't really smell at all to me (I can't use alcohol markers because I'm really sensitive to the smell!). I'm not sure they're what you would call environmentally friendly - you may be able to recycle the plastic packaging perhaps?
I think you are going to enjoy schminckes new watercolor/gouache hybrid called „Horadam naturals“ which is purely vegan btw and contain just natural pigments with a range of rather bold but also muted colors. They also released liquid earth tubes comparable to the liquid charcoal tubes with three nice chalk and umbra colors. I am from Germany, they released these new products at a fair in Frankfurt. Only the liquid earth tubes can be purchased already (at least at German webshops)
Ooh, I've just seen your comment and I actually ordered these from Jackson's the other day! Only four colours to try them, but I'm just waiting for them to arrive! I wanted the small set of the liquid earth tubes too, but they were out of stock at the moment. Excited to try them!
Before i even watcg tge full video, I feel like you made that video personally for me, haha. 😂 I just bought a bunch of markers on sale in cass art to mix them with the pitt artist pens that i had and i also have carandache neocolor that i never use.
I would imagine the colour is different on each end due to being stored upright causing the pigment to settle towards one end of the marker, making it darker and the other end lighter. Maybe store the ice blue marker the other way for a while and see if it evens it out any.
Yay❤🎉 I need to join your patreon. You're colors are my fav colors 💙🎨 and right...what's up with the different color markers?! What are they like? 😂 this happened to me several times. My recent purchase was a set of metallic markers from Ohuhu( I believe not lightfast.) I bought a set for fun/practice. They're not bad, but ends are a different color than other ends. Marker set each supposed to be same color. I don't understand lol🤔
This seems to be a thing with markers as it happens across the different brands! The ones I purchased aren't refillable (I don't think so anyway?). You'd be very welcome over on Patreon! :)
Absolutely adore your videos! They are a breath of fresh air, ever so inspiring and packed with interesting content! Really appreciate all the openness and your willingness to share. Plus of course: your work is truly beautiful!
Can someone explain how it's possible that the derwent intense can be wetted but then dry waterproof? Like the chemistry of it.... I don't understand. As far as I'm concerned, it's witchcraft.
Surprise video! 🎉
Yay! It's been a long day already (and it's not even 3pm...) so that's just the pick-me-up I need with my cuppa :)

The pitt pens blend out wonderfully as long as you do it before they dry. Then you can layer because they don’t budge once dry. I love them!!
Again, teaching us new skills using our pencils. Thank you so much. I have these supplies in a box and have not known what to do with them.
Thanks for addressing what you can do with the White Faber Castel Pitt Pens!! - I have not figured out how to use mine in any way that shows up!

so inspired to add some markers to my arsenal! how does the paper in that sketchbook hold up to the markers? any bleed or ghosting?
It seems really good for water-based markers! I don't have any alcohol markers, so can't comment on those. :)

What is your favourite eraser for coloured pencils?
Choosing Keeping stock a coloured pencil eraser I like to use, and I also like Koh-I-Noor's Magic eraser!
Lovely...lovely. look how loose and speedy you are 😂 👏
Yeah, look at me being all fast and everything! ;)
Can someone explain how it's possible that the derwent intense can be wetted but then dry waterproof? Like the chemistry of it.... I don't understand. As far as I'm concerned, it's witchcraft.
I agree! How is it possible?!
Hi! First! Bye!
Might be a good idea to stay a while! ;)

I’m pretty sure inktense pencils are not lightfast. Just so you’re not disappointed later.
Some are, some are less so - this one is a lightfast one! I checked before I bought it. :)
@@NatashaNewtonArt oh, ok, good.
