I'm very late to the table. Bought my first Leica at Olden Camera in NYC in the 1970's, and my new M10 in 2020. Two wonderful Q&A sessions, and I learned a lot. Saw one yesterday, and the other today. I too have questions. My home is in Miami, although I am now still in India. I plan to visit the store when I get back. .......one thing nobody asked - for decades I've been using M cameras, and sometimes I wonder if my hands are in the best position to control it. Thanks very much - I've got a lot more watching to do.
Talking about a sophisticated piece of technology (I’m a Leicaphile and love my M typ262 by the way) and it takes how long to get the live chat going........????
Martin, because we're streaming in full 4K30, there is a significant lag due to RUclips processing. So, part of what you were seeing was waiting for the RUclips part of it. The other reason for holding off on the start of the discussion is that we wanted to make sure everyone that wanted to tune in was able to get online have their streams buffered and running. Just in the first five minutes, an additional 200 people logged in to watch.
You started to discuss how to select the right diopter. And you said ask your optometrist for the lens correction needed at a distance of six feet. But you did not finish the thought when the dog walked in. It was fun to see the dog. But you didn’t finish. So my question is, after my optometrist tells me what lens correction I need at a distance of six feet - then what? I could do as Josh suggested and buy all the diopters and return the ones I don’t need, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary monkey motion if you would finish the thought. What do I do with the information from my optometrist in order to get the best diopter the first time? Please . . . .
@@james-p Hi a simple answer that I don't want to complicate. In the past I've herd the diopter in the M cameras is already -0.5 , is that the case that I need to take 0.5 off, or is that covered by the 6Ft element you mentioned. Thanks
Is the Summilux-M 75mm (German) inherently more valuable (better) lens than the Canadian versions, or is it just more valuable because the market says it is (because it's the German version and not Canadian version)?
Wearing glasses: since you both wear glasses, how do you see the entire frame for any lens wider than 50mm? I’ve almost abandoned using my M10 because now that I wear glasses, I can’t see the entire frame when using a 35mm lens. That’s why I love the Q2 - but I’d like to love the M10 again and wear glasses at the same time.
I too wear glasses. But over time I’ve become used to guessing fairly closely, where the frame lines are with a 35 and 28. Not perfect, but I do manage to get what I need within the final photo frame edges.
David here. I'm able to see the 35mm frame lines with my glasses. I guess I've just gotten used to it, as I've never been able to shoot without glasses for my entire adult life. Also, I do use the Visoflex quite a lot when shooting with the M10, which allows me to use much wider lenses, like my 18 and 24mm.
Hi my name is Orlando Morales and I recently purchased a new M10-P since no owner’s manual was included in the box I have some questions. 1st. Is the electronic level included with this model and if so, where can I find it? 2nd. I need to use from time to time a PC type flash connection for studio work, how can I get this type of connection with the M10-P? Thank you very much
Orlando Morales You can order the manual by registrating your camera at the Leica distributor in your country and ask for the manual too, how the Electronics leveling works you will find in the manual. Succes with your M10P! It's a real gem. One of a kind.
Orlando Morales The manual can be also be downloaded from the Leica website. Although a U.K.link, it should redirect you to your region .. uk.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/Leica-M10-P/Downloads
I believe you can add the Leica M SCA Adapter (plate with cord and cold shoe) to the Leica Handgrip M to gain a PC flash sync connection. I would call Leica to be sure that works with the M10 as it did with the M (240).
Please does anybody knows if a digital Leica M camera offers digital focus magnification or focus peaking on the screen or on the electronic viewfinder like most mirrorless cameras?
please include hyperfocal dinstance information to include 'in focus' for a 5x7 print viewed from 12 inch (normal viewing distance... ie a 10x14 at 24 inches, etc.
Thanks for the feedback. This was our first live episode, and we were a little too concerned with time limits. After filming a dozen of these now, we are more comfortable running longer and providing more detailed answers. If you take a look at our more recent videos, you should see this.
It is stupid to put the tripod socket in the camera body instead of the bottom plate. Now it is impossible to have a camera plate permanently attached. Leica needs to go back to the solid brass base plates like they used on the M8/M9 when they will release the M11.
Really, neither solution is great. We've used the M8, M8.2 and M9 which had threaded bottom plates, then the M240 and M10 which have the socket in the camera base, and both have compromises. The M8 and M9 plates would flex under pressure, which meant the camera wasn't fully locked down on the tripod. The body method on the M240 and M10 are much more secure, but cause an annoyance when needing to access the battery or SD card. The easiest, and best solution is to use a Really Right Stuff replacement plate with L-bracket. This is what we use and can't recommend them highly enough. Best of both worlds, and a vertical mount without rotating the head.
RedDotForum I have Arca Swiss MonoballFix camera plates (the 55 Hasselblad type) on my M8 and M9-P and have no issues at all. It works great and adds overall more stability to the bodies also for handheld shooting.

You guys are just awesome, great tips. Thanks a bunch for sharing so enthusiastically. Keep on trucking.
Thank you! Will do!
Very much enjoyed this! And my “new” (very lightly used) M10.
Hi, Enzo!
After you cut through the noise there is some valuable info here.
Diopter discussion was very helpful.
Great information, I enjoyed watching, tell more about the history of Leica & Leica Q2
For Macro photography on M10, how does ELPRO 52 and Macro-adapter-M compare? In terms of versatility, image quality, optical performance, etc.?

Your optometrist will tell you. If he says "+1.5" then get a +1.5 diopter.
