Huge fan of Eley hose reels. We have 3 of them on our rural home. Going to add another on our shop building. Flawless operation for all of them. One is over 10 years old. All we do to winterize them is disconnect from hose bib, pull out hose to maximum length and then wind it up to empty any water from within the hose. Perfect.
I’ve had my Eley reel and hose for almost 2 years in the Texas sun and it’s still in practically new condition. I’ve gone through several others (many of them not cheap) and none have been completely leak free this far into owning them. The price was tough to swallow but SO worth it. HIGHLY recommend the hose too. I’d swear it was larger than 5/8 because I feel like I have better pressure than another hose I’ve used. Maybe less bottle necks in the fittings, or more rigid hose that doesn’t collapse when rolled in the reel? Either way, also worth the price. Having the Flexzilla “compress” on the reel to fit more isn’t a plus for me, just restricts the pressure coming out.
The Eley holds 100' 3/4" hose full of water (*with the extra capacity insert). For going different angles, they have hose guides that go into the ground. I bought two of them, but the grass grew over them and they are now lost. ;)
Have you had any issues with Galvanic Corrosion between the Flexzilla anodized aluminum ends and the brass/copper swivel on the Eley hose reel? Or even with the Eley quick connects?
I think you can change the tension on the flexzilla hose reel. I thought when I read the directions there was something in there to change the tension.
Giraffe Tools has 5/8" retractable hose. Pretty sure it is 90 feet. I have had a few of them for a year now and seem to be holding up well. Don't seem to have that winding in problem you do
you get a motor and you weld the shaft to the hose reel axel, there’s your auto reel for ANY length hose. i used a step motor and it auto reels very slow , that’s how i water my lawn, as it very very slowly reels in i’m watering the lawn guess how long it lasted , about 5 times, i forgot about an auto shut off once it’s completely reeled in, i broke the hose reel and the motor there is a resistance thingy in your hose reel, you gotta open it up and adjust it and reduce the resistance checker thingy but it’s setup thst wsy because you should not have water in your hose when it’s all coiled up, it’s additional weight and load on the part that holds up your retractor that’s attached to whatever , side of your house
Not about this video but do you happen to know anything about pre germinating Bermuda grass seed. I’m on day 4 and have been changing the water every 12 hours. Do you know about how much longer I should continue the process.
Is there a reason why you have the rain Shute or whatever you want to call it backwards underneath the gutter beside the manual hose reel? - the_grass_ninja
Bummer about the Flexzilla reel. I'm a big fan of Flexzilla stuff. I've been holding off for these companies to get it together and start making automatic reels for 5/8 hose with 100 ft or more. Great review Jordan 👍🏼
You do get what you pay for. Buy once cry once. I was tired of the Home Depot crap shit. Never had a problem with my Eley hose reel. Yes does it take some manpower to reel it up? Man up. Works as it should and never leaked.
I love my Giraffe 5/8" automatic hose reel but it is only 90' long. I also have a 1/2" Giraffe that is 130' but I prefer the 5/8'. It winds super easy. You can't beat the Eley manual reels though.
@@joestewart8966 So far so good. Both are still doing well. The grey covering is faded but the hose still releases, locks, and winds with no issues on both. I did have to replace one of the nozzles but that's pretty much expected.
@@redtwin1968 that is great to hear, I’ve seen some reviews talking bad about the giraffe products. Another question, can you install quick connects or a spray nozzle from another brand? Or is it all proprietary like the hose link hose reel?
My Giraffe 90ft 5/8“ reel after 5 months in the sun looks terrible, after checking with them I was offered a $30 "refund" and told not to place it in direct sunlight...
First Aussie 😁. I’ve got (2) 25 metre hiflow Hoselink hose reels with patented non burst hose connections for years now . Have never let me down . 🤠
Glad to see you back in this type of content. Don’t forget the let’s make the yard fun again

Eley is the best for sure!
These hose ain’t loyal

Where my hose at?
Love my Eley! Had it for a few years and absolutely no issues.

😂
I forgot about the hose guides! I need to get one
I just got one this spring. Incredible quality. Worth all those pennies.
i just got the 82ft hoselink, super happy with it so far. great video.
There is a tension adjustment in the maintenance part of the manual!

garden bed is flourishing
Love the flexzilla. One of the best things I ever bought.
One day I'll save up and get a automatic hose reel. I'm still rocking the "cheap" plastic home depot specials.
I have been weary of some of the cheap plastic on the more expensive ones too 😔
Congratulations on your spot in the USA Today.
What’s that now? 😳
It’s an article/video of your course designs for little tools birthday parties.
Is there a hose reel that works with 3/4 inch hoses? The Eley Reel looks really beffy though.
Can we get a review of the toro eflex? Went back through the channel and I didn’t find one.
Do you have to unreel the entire reel so you don’t lose flow?

Sun faded yet mine lasted less than 5 months
Thanks for the informative review

So, why not just turn the water off and drain the water out of the hose?
Can I paint this? Just Rustoleum Spray Paint?

hey, I've seen some reviews saying that giraffe doesn't hold up, how has the reel held up over the last 9 months?

@@joestewart8966 It's the standard hose connection. There is nothing proprietary about it.
If you keep the sprayer open as it automatically winds, does it push the water out and reel in better?
Maybe if it is turned off and the water is draining out but not if it is on and water is still running through it
How's your Flexzilla hose holding up?
Let’s go!
Which pre emergent do you use in your Bermuda?! I’m stuck lol
I used prodiamine up until this year. Golf course guy gave me a tip on one called specticle flo but beware… it’s expensive
@@TheLawnTools thanks! I’ll look into it!
You should consider a modern irrigation system and be done with it.

Not in direct sunlight …. That would be a bit tough
Let’s talk about longevity…
Hoselink
Just a heads up they have a "Garden Hose Guide" that solves your multi directional problem for $31. #accountantapproved.
Koven said that too! I forgot about those!! Need to get one 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 thanks Jayme!
Striperman is a manual guy and the Eley looks like a nice work out.💪👍💚🦸
