Really appreciate these videos! I doin this transom mod on my 370. The smile on your face is the exact feeling I have when I'm on my Whaly! It was 33 degrees in Virginia last week and I still had to get out.....loved it!
@@Deep_Down_Productions I will keep you updated but it will look something like yours, currently steering the Outboard is very difficult due to the engine sitting way to low!! Not sure why whaly designed the transom so short
Hi mate, really enjoyed this vid. I am an engineer, and will be doing this mod to my boat soon. Quick question, do you know if the transom is solid plastic? Or foam filled?
@@AJSchwey Hi AJ, I had them made from stainless steel tubing with welded nuts at each end. Then used a threaded eye bolt each end to secure it to the hull and to tie off the rope. Easy cheap build that I highly recommend for your Whaly!
I have the same boat powered with a Honda BF20 w/20 inch shaft. Boat and motor are new. I’m having problems getting it onto plane , the motor seems to lack power. Recently at the Ocracoke Inlet, NC I could only manage 5-6 mph with my wife and 2 dogs onboard. Today I picked the boat up from the dealership where I bought the motor. They changed out the spark plugs and recommended that I raise the engine much like you did to yours to improve performance. Would a 15 inch shaft work/improve performance instead of a 20 inch assuming the hydrofoil is level with the keel on the 370? Thank you for the video.
Hi Ronald, 15 inch would be to short I would think, only lifted my transom 1-1.5 inches. If you lost 5 inches guessing you will have bigger issues. I’m NO expert on this issue. What I did worked fantastic and getting magic results. Another video is coming soon just work commitments have slowed me up.
Hello. The valves were out of adjustment. I ultimately sold the Honda 20 and replaced it with a Tohatsu 25. I’ve had no issues with the new motor. Thanks.
Hee i have the same transom mod on my whaly 370 and the same engine now i have the quastion what size prop you run on it i have the problem now wit 1 or 2 People in the boat it Come in plane but it takes long time and whit 3-4 People the boat never Come in the plane Happy to if you react thnx
I have The 435 and the same 25 hp Yamaha. I always thought that the motor sat too low in the water and I got a lot of spray at the back of the transom that seemed to indicate this. I should look into the same modification. How has it worked for you?
@@Deep_Down_Productions Great job! Looks like a blast for our Seattle area. Question: Do you have a measurement from the center of the prop to the transom height they give you? I am a greenhorn I admit…If it had a 9.9 hp or it was a Mercury or something then how do you determine the ideal position? By trial and error? Thanks.
May I ask what shaft length your motor has? My Suzuki DF25 (20” long shaft) sits way high and the anticavitation plate is 9” below the waterline. The top of the transom is 7” above the waterline. With electric start and electric lift it weighs in at 162 lbs…which might just be too heavy? Moved gas tank and battery forward and sit midship with a tiller extension but it just doesn’t want to plane but I haven’t given it full throttle yet. No matter how I trim, it just rises the bow and water almost comes in over the transom. Or do I just need to ‘floor it’ ?
Hi Gerhard, I also have a 20"long shaft outboard. My Yamaha F25 is manual trim/lift so a wee bit lighter than your Suzuki. I have only once had an issue with water coming over the transom and that was when I was on the plane and then stopped all of a sudden and the following wave came over and swamped the boat. Life lesson not to do that again ahaha. I seem to have the complete opposite to you being bow heavy at full power which is a pain as water sprays over the top and get everyone on board wet. Since modifying the transom height the outboard is sitting correctly in the water, fuel economy and boat movability has improved but I still can't have full throttle without getting wet. I say 'floor it' and see what happens bet you'll have a monster smile on your face!
Cheers Mate! Great videos! Planning on getting a 370 myself and have been watching the tube for ideas and your setup is great! Notice that you have the steel rail in the back where the ropes usually extend to. Are those custom mods?
Yeah I made those with stainless steel tube and welded in two nuts, used a stainless eye bolt to fix it into place. Great addition and super handy for everything from dive flag, handle or a tie down point.

I'm in VA as well White Stone VA.
@@Chris-dp3rp cool. But an hour away from Williamsburg. You have the 370 model?
Meant to say "Bout" an hour . Gotta love autocorrect
Можно ли такую купить в Россию? И какая цена?
Does this mean you need to engineer your own metal plate to properly aim the propeller?
Great review, I'm looking to raise my Transom as well
Right on! I promise you it will make a huge difference in handling and performance! Love to see what you end up doing.

Hello, I live in an area where the water is very rough all year round, would you recommend this boat? thanks greetings.
Would a short shaft outboard not be a better option?

I would of went the merc 25hp they are a 3cyl , cool boat i haven't seen 1 here in Aus
Hi, I have a 370 in light grey, it’s great. Where did the railing with the rings come from on the rear gunwale come from?
Many thanks!

it looks like it handles the waves much better than the inflatables, they want to flip over with only one person in the boat

hello , i know its an old question posted but did you ever figure out why you were only getting 5 or 6 mph on a brand new motor?

If the transom height on the Whaly website is listed at 20”, why doesn’t a 20 inch Yamaha shaft match up? Why is the cavitation plate so low?
One of those life question every Whaly owner asks Don........

What size is the boat 455.

Are you using a 20" or 15" shaft outboard?
20"
These boats are so old and they still haven't fixed issue of proper fitting of outboards! Says that company doesn't care
