I’m a semi professional musician singer, drummer) retired business manager and was immediately captivated by her voice, heart, and skills, both vocal and piano! Her Dad’s written response and comments are here and are electrifying in his little story of her. She moved me like only one or two idol contestants ever have and I have been watching it seventeen years!

Abi has a beautiful gift, and you can tell she comes from a humble upbringing. I pray she doesn't lose any of that as so many artists have tried to please the music industry instead of being truthful to herself. She was made to share her gift of music.

I don't know a lot about music but this was such a genuinely beautiful performance. I have heard the Billie E version but I feel like this one is so much more emotional. Her voice is just so beautiful! I watched a video of her singing the National Anthem and it was also beautifully done!!

Loved how your head snapped around when she started singing! Glad you didn't know the song, as too many try to compare, though, for me, this raw, emotional, rendition fits the song perfectly. Hope she does well, and doesn't get torn up by the music machine!

She is the best I’ve ever heard in all my years of watching since the beginning of Idol! She will be a great discovery as she is already a great performer ❤ Her talent is as deep as her humility and her soul connects with any soul listening to her sing!

She has such a vulnerability and absolute control. I felt every note of that song. And the humility. She does not realize just how gifted she is. A loving support group with her family. I would love to see her win it all for the talent and if anyone deserves it Abby Carter does. That version of the song was very powerful and emotional and I don’t really get emotional. This one hit hard!!

Spot on! I’m glad you immediately heard what I’ve been hearing since I first heard this performance. Abi’s audition was phenomenal. So much so that I keep coming back to bathe in this performance and it moves me each time. I’ve listened to it dozens of times already. Although her high range is such that she has to be careful that she doesn’t cross the line from emotive to screechy, but in this performance, the effect was perfect. I melt each time I hear her lovely runs, which you did a great job of analyzing.

I loved Abi's audition and I was curious to see your reaction - I totally agree with you. American Idol, though, is a meat grinder - SO many times factors get in the way of a contestant's success that don't have much to do with their ability to sing or their musicianship. In fact, many times the most amazing voices and strongest musicians don't win the popular vote. SO, I hope she can enjoy the ride, soak in the experience, make professional connections, treat this like a fast-track advanced degree in the entertainment industry. Then she's already "won." I'm so glad you enjoyed this performance as much as I did!

Abi's performance was confident, relaxed, and nearly flawless. She has some real skill at the piano as well. I couldn't imagine the pressure of performing like that in front of 3 famous artists. She could have sung it with a more pop-style vocal, which would have been easier except it would have lost a lot of the emotion. I was blown away at how well she was able to do those runs with this breathy, soft vocal style and she made it seem almost effortless. Her emotional connection with the song felt very real, very genuine. All of that, plus she seems down to earth and very likeable. I hope she is able to retain some of that if she is as successful as she may soon be.

Before I heard the judges comments before she stood up I said that's the best I ever heard. When they said the crew never clapped before I was excited for her. Love the vocal coach's explanation of why I felt that way. When she sang Elton John I really got excited for her. There are people like Elton Stevie Wonder and several more that one should not attempt She did Elton in a way I know he'd love too. Someone invite Elton to listen to her!!!! He'd probably come just to be with her...

You said it very well. I was trying to figure out why she is so incredibly likeable... She's so natural. Even from how she opens her eyes and looks forward while she's playing and in between lines she's singing. Humility is very attractive when it's genuine! I hope she continues to be humble and sings like this. She is truly gifted! Thank you for your comments!

Hi! I'm so glad you managed to upload it 😃! I 100% agree with everything you said about her and the judges. I was even a little worried that she got the Platinum Ticket, cause, at this point, after a couple of years of it, I'm not sure the Platinum is doing any good to the artists, but, anyways, we learn from everything, don't we?

This is Abi's dad. Thank you for your kind words. I think your assessment was spot on.
I'll tell you a story about Abi. It's true, as God is my witness.
American Idol debuted on June 11th, 2002. Abi's mother, an aspiring singer herself, would break into song whenever she could -- in the car, walking around the house, doing chores. We started watching American Idol together from the beginning and fantasized about being there, performing. (Both of us loved to sing.)
Well, anyway, Mom was expecting. Our second daughter would be born in a month or two, so Mom went to get a sonogram to check on baby. During that procedure, the technician pulled off her head phones saying "You're not going to believe this! I've never heard this before!"
Abi was singing in the womb. (I know, it sounds almost biblical, right?) She wasn't just making sounds. She was singing!
When Abi was born and started to cry, we immediately noticed she had a raspy voice. (Probably from pushing all that amniotic fluid around!) It was like she'd swallowed a frog!
    And it didn't go away.
As she matured and started singing like her mom, it was apparent Abi couldn't replicate the clear notes and silky tones her mother could. But she had AMAZING control! "I'm sorry, honey. You have a broken instrument," I told her, "but you play it beautifully!"
She never said anything, but just kept singing. She bought a refrigerator for her room -- and stuffed it with goodies! -- using the loot she'd win each year singing at the county fair. Abi LIVED in that room, brooding, practicing her music, honing her craft.
She had help along the way. We made sure she had a piano -- and years and years of piano practice. (The guitar and ukulele were her idea!)
I'm a trained educator. I spent my career teaching chemistry and physics. So it's no light thing when I tell you: Abi is the most intelligent being I've ever personally known. Her verbal skills are off the charts! She has a memory like you would not believe. And, like her mother, she loves to sing! She's an irrepressible force of nature!
We hope she continues to do well. She's been doing this for a very long time, literally since before she was born.

What was the song? The One she was singing in the womb? Did the sonographer tell you? All joking aside. Can you actually do that? I mean does the laws of science allow you to do that?
Love Abi's audition. Question: does she sing that emotively whilst busking? That would be crazy as that means regardless of audience and venue she gives all as per whatever the moment tells her to give. I'm crazy like that too as when I do karaoke I always give as much as Madison Square Garden deserves.....not that I've been there but if I had been there. 🤣

She is a force of nature, and seems like she comes from a great background. I'm sure Hollywood won't eat her up with a backbone like this. Can't wait to hear more from her, she is absolutely briliant!

She said her mom was a single mom. I don't believe a word you say. IMPOSSIBLE to sing in the womb, and if she had amniotic fluid in her lungs, she would have pneumonia. I know this as a fact!
      LIES!!
      SHAME!!!! 😂

    • @TheProtestantPope
      @TheProtestantPope 7 месяцев назад

@@saralichty5198 Yes I was thinking that too. It's rather silly singing in the womb without a microphone and don't get me started on amplifications and stuff. It's scientifically impossible. The baby wouldn't know any songs anyway. So it's not really singing. It's just going "goo goo ga gah" and even that's stretching the boundaries of reality. 🤣

I agree with everything you say about Abi’s likability, her talent, and the potential pressure in the judges’ high praise. At the same time, i feel a little left out by just how OTT the response seems to be. While not Abi’s fault, i find the judges’ hyperbole off putting. Without it, she’d be among my favorites, no additional scrutiny. With it, i find myself listening more critically. With each listen, i wish more and mire that she had pulled back a bit from belting: it takes me out of her emotion. I also can’t help reflecting on - and missing - Billie’s intentionality and discipline in choosing to deliver the song in a cry-whisper. (If you haven’t seen her Vanity Fair interview on her vocal choices btw, it’s REALLY worth a listen... ) But again, Abi’s wonderful. The judges just need to tone it down!

You know all of these artists tell you don't do it just like me make it your own. I think she did fine. It's an audition if she performed the song exactly like Billy they probably would not have liked it and you're right a big part of her appealing to people is her innocence I hope she keeps it

Hello new subscriber here..your video came across my feed after listening to Abi elsewhere..the reason why I chose to subscribe is to thank you for your teachings about humility I needed to hear it said the way you said it..personality is key when singing it allows others to peek through the window of somebody's soul..😊I'm glad the judges rooted for her because I did..her genuine humility won't let praise go to her head because in the end she didn't know what to say..I found her channel on RUclips and subscribed after hearing her sing more songs..I agree with you her singing voice is very pretty sure hope no one ruins it for her..Katy Perry gravitated towards her and embraced her the same way her family did..❤ Abi's precious.

8:07 that is SPOT ON right there. So true about the runs being an outflow of her emotional connection to the song. This is why really I respect Abi so much because she has her own identity and can take a song and completely change it into something different. Only true artists can do that. I get so sick of when people cover songs from Whitney and Mariah and try to just copy every single run, as if them trying to copy every riff and run is an outflow of their own emotion when it's not, its an outflow of Whitney and Mariah's emotions. Anyway, I digress. But yes you are so right about this comment.

I absolutely loved this audition, but I'm not sure about using full voice so early in the song - or even using it at all? Although that might be because Katy always demands more volume. There were very minor pitch issues, but I agree, it doesnt matter when the emotion is so heartfelt.
A wonderful song. Billie won both the Golden Globe and Oscar fir this song. With Finneas of course.
