This is a brilliant video - we are just about to invest in an Ultimaker 3 for our Primary School. I really love the idea of kids being able to take a sketch as they did with the facade design and draw over the top of it with the CAD software. What CAD software were they using in that part of the video?
Thanks for your interest, Mike! In which regards to the CAD software, if you are going to be working with young kids I would recommend you to start with something easy and intuitive, like Tinkercad. Besides that one, there is a variety of cad modelling tools available, and every software tool which can export as an STL would be suited for 3D printing, so SolidWorks, Fusion360, Blender, OpenSCAD or Rhino3D are also good options. Rhinoceros for tracing over the sketch (good control over curved lines by manipulating control points) and previously in the video Sketchup was also used

I am concerned that unforseen things which were picked up in the hands on model making will be even more infrequently found using 3D printing. For instance, the muck from cutting and carving out in modeling the façade's curvy pattern won't be there in the 3D. Therefore the realisation by the architect from the modelling that in real life and at full scale, such dirt traps on a the face of a building in Soho are an unnecessary future maintenance cost and a bad idea needing more thought, such will be lost.
I've been using a Bambu Lab printer and at 1/10 of the price compared to Ultimaker, it performs 10 times better. I dont see the justification in the cost of Ultimaker printers.
