    I was only 6 Months old when this historical conference took place. The 1991 July conference has changed the political landscape of our country the continent at large. Today this glorious movement is led by people who do not champion the struggle of our people. We are new dawn of leaders in the ANC and I'm proud to say as young as we are, we are contesting the space to renew the ANC to its rightful position as liberation movement of Chief Albert Luthuli and others. This conference was held before I was born but I can feel it in my heart that that this was the organization of the people the organization that was determined to work for the people... It is pity that that today we are dwelling in poverty because few leaders decided to defer the ideal position of this great movement. I weep, I weep, I weep

    While we were caught in anticipation of political victory frenzy, the enemy had a strategy to dismantle the movement by absorbing many of its leaders into top economic positions to ensure the exclusive systems were maintained and this changed much of their focus into self enrichment with many becoming instant millionaires, and once such happened it was only a matter before the wheels came off. There are many then young leaders who have become too rich to bother about what they once fought for.

    • @whawha9016
      @whawha9016 3 года назад +1

      @@cliffordsebone3673 What is your actual point? Obviously two-thirds in percentage is anything above 66.6%. ANC missed that mark by 2.9% in the first elections, which is insignificant. If there was a 5% barrier (like in most western democracies) that excludes insiginificant parties from entering the parliament, then ANC would have won a clear two-thirds majority. So they basically decided to give a few parliament seats to insignigicant parties.

    People forget that without the SACP the ANC would struggle to win majority. The other issue is the IFP was big in KZN in 1994. Look at how the capital of the province was Ulundi and Martizburg. The highest number of votes won by the ANC was in 2004, after the formation of the DA. What was left of the NNP was swallowed up by the ANC and the DP and NNP for the DA. It's why Tony Leon always had a government job until he left.

    The ANC died with Chris Hani, Oliver Thambo, Walter Sisulu, Goven Mbeki and ultimately Nelson Mandela. The people who were suppose to take the baton failed. Thabo Mbeki made his biggest mistake by suspending Jacob Zuma as the Deputy president. The centralizing of executive decisions as Terror Legkota mentioned became a thorn and division of the glorius movement. While ANC was in leadership crisis under Mbeki, a conference wa ought to be called and resolutions taken by the masses.

      The selling out started during the times when the old South African government came up with a plan to fix the bankrupt government and those were the times when anc was banned and some of its leaders were in carceration. Those comrades who negotiated the release of those political prisoners are the very once who compromised.
      During the time when the speech "wind of change" was made a compromise had already happened.

    How come Thabo Mbeki was replaced by Cyril as chief commission negotiator? Why was Zuma not part of the negotiations team? Who was appointed to be part of negotiations team and what criteria was used in selection? We are in this mess becouse of those choices

    Robust debate and acting democratically remains the cornerstones of the strength of the ANC. Currently people classify these tenets of democracy "Factionalism" - wrong.
