It is hard to feel like this is a credible resource video when they can't even pronounce commonly known Hawaiian words or take the time to look up the pronunciations before publishing! I find it very disrespectful to the Hawaiian people and the 'aina.

First of all the island next to Nii'hou, is Kaua'i, pronounce Ka wa ee, not Kawee, second get your facts correct before asking me to subscribe, I was born and raised on Oahu and never heard Nii'hou being "the forbidden island" off-limits to tourist and you had been born there to go there was common knowledge among the locals.

Virtually every word from the beautiful Hawaiian language was horribly mispronounced throughout this video. Not even island names or the name of the past king was pronounced correctly! This is no doubt going to offend a lot of people. You really need to study up on the culture you’re reporting on, and then redo the audio. It’s that bad.

The language had almost died out so some of the residents came to Kauai to teach the language. My wife grew up in Waimea Kauai, and seldom did she hear the Hawaiian language. Now it is coming back

I'm not sure but I think Niihau had some history in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. A Japanese pilot crash landed his A6M fighter on the island and was captured by the inhabitants. I think he was later killed when he attempted to escape.
One of the Japanese residents of Ni'ihau viewed it as "go time" and threw in with the pilot. This display of racial solidarity may have in part convinced DC the internment camps were necessary. However, the biggest crime was DC scheming to force the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor by cutting off fuel supplies to Japan. Roosevelt and his highly-jewish cabinet wanted to fight Germany (Japan's ally), but US public was quite against getting involved in the war. Pearl Harbor would change their minds....shades of the October Hamas attack on Israel....a green flag.
If they really cared about the culture they would give the island to the natives. This is a polite way of saying slavery is okay.

its a different language written in another language which has different pronunciation, it is pretty easy to not know how to say these, especially if you are not even A native english speaker. back in 1995 I was able to fly to Ni‘ihau with this helicopter for a few hours. with biggest respect to the story. I planed my holiday travelings along all the hawaiian islands around the date of this trip. we had to be for passengers befor flight was confirmed. then, one day before this from me long awaited flight, the other couple cancelled their reservatuon due to a familiy problem. I was lucky a Kauai woman actually from Ni’ihau and her boy flew with us. It was a really unforgettable day. David the pilot showed us a school of sharks and a monk seal very near to us. while he was fishing, I spoke a little hwaiian words to the Kaua’i woman. we got friends while they collected the famous Ni‘ihsu shells, we met her later in Kau‘i to receive her handmade ni’ihau shell lei and earrings. I still have them today 2023! mahalo nui
