    The Bashaev kata-garuma variant was Epic. If one could measure the torque and lifting forces generated, I think it would surprise people.

    thank you for your amazingcommentary! I really enjoy watching your videos.
    recently you made a video focusing on a specific aspect of high level Judokas games, gripping, and not only changed it the way I view competition but also gave me a new perspective on the way I play myself (just by setting a different focus during Randori).
    Will you be making more in depth analysis' on specific techniques or parts of the game in the future? love it and looking forward to all the content you produce :)

    Matvey Kanikovskiy is a machine. I saw him eating a burger and walking back to the event during the interval before the final. It looked like he almost smiled when he was walking off the mat after beating Arai effortlessly.

      That’s not how judo works though. They’ve never added a new technique and never will. To them it’s a finished product

    • @joewwright92
      @joewwright92 Год назад +1

      @@JudoHighlights2015 the so called shinmeisho no waza were officially added by the Kodokan in 1987, 1997 and 2017 and include loads of techniques that were not in the original gokyo. They were all techniques that had been in common use for a long time in competition or were thought of as variations but had not been officially recognised by the kodokan as techniques in themselves.
      I could see yagura nage being added next time they do an update, and possibly classifying the new kata guruma variants.

    • @JudoHighlights2015
      @JudoHighlights2015  Год назад

      @@joewwright92 I've talked to some Kodokan people about this. The way they talk about it is as if they "always existed", but I never knew about this shinmeisho no waza. Any idea what technique/s were added in 2017?

    • @joewwright92
      @joewwright92 Год назад

      @@JudoHighlights2015daki age was removed and kouchi makikomi was added. Also ura gatame, uki gatame and ushiro kesa gatame were added. But like you said these all obviously existed and the names were in common use before, it was just a matter of the kodokan officially recognising them as their own techniques. I guess before they would have all been classed as variations of other techniques.

  • @MomentsByBrian
    @MomentsByBrian Год назад +2

    Oh, very good argument when you showed how Arai scored a waza-ari against Korrel using a technique that I don't believe (I could be wrong) is in the gokyo, but Wolf's tentative got ignored. I'm a junior referee, and this kind of commentary is extremely helpful to keep in mind.

    I hate the 'you have to be able to name the technique' line the commentators always trot out as well. Not only is it dumb by itself, half of the time I *can* name the technique anyway... the commentators seem to forget there are more throws than the gokyo.

    I think this type of sumi gaeshi should be „illegal“… i had the exact same situation one year ago and my opponent did sit deeper on the ground than The russian guy did so he broke my ankle with the sumi gaeshi and I was out for 13 weeks…
    I think arai was pretty lucky that he didn’t get injured by this technique aswell. I really like sumi gaeshi but this type (i think it’s kind of a Yoko sumi gaeshi) is just pretty dangerous.
