  • There’s an intense battle for Libya’s capital Tripoli that’s killed more than 200 civilians and displaced thousands of people.
    The offensive is being led by a renegade general named Khalifa Haftar who’s fighting militias loyal to the UN-recognised Government of National Accord.
    But who is Haftar, which countries support him and which world powers back the GNA?
    Start Here explains what’s behind the fight for Libya and why the international community has struggled to stop it.

    So let me get this straight. For all those years Gadafi ruled, he made all those groups in Libya fight amonst each other, yet during his time served, Libya had the 5th highest gdp per capita in Africa, supported pan africanism, black civil rights, Libya consistently ranked at the top of african countries regarding HDI and standards of living, and significantly improved Libyas quality of life. Up until the late 2010s, Libya had a very high literacy rate and a very high life expectancy. By the time Gadafi died, Libya had the highest GDP per capita and life expectancy in the african continent and fewer people lived below the poverty line than in the Netherlands. Gadafi may have played the tribes towards one another, by statistrics definitely disprove that. According to NATO, overthrowing Gadafi had less to do with the citizens of Libya but rather the destabilization of the middle east. Even during the war, there are videos showing gadafi waving to his people in his car, claiming libyans loved him, which they did for all the good he has done to them.

    • @mdjey2
      @mdjey2 Год назад +4

      "fewer people lived below the poverty line than in the Netherlands" That is only possible if you change definition of what constitutes poverty line like China did. By European standards that statement is false.

    • @makara2711
      @makara2711 11 месяцев назад +7

      @@mdjey2 you don't need standard. you can just survey people if they feel like they're below the poverty line.
      even if by european standard, a libyan is considered poor, he is not poor if he argues that he can eat anything he wants for a day and can drink plenty of water and can buy almost anything he needs and can travel to places. if the european standard says that he must make 100 euros per month regardless of conditions, then that's bullshit and that's probably the reason why countries that don't really have serious poverty rate have serious poverty rates according to europe

    This young lady presents the facts very well. Qaddafi was not as bad as some make him out to have been. It was proven that it was not his regime that downed the passenger jet over Scotland, and he also gave up his nuclear weapons ambitions.
    So why in 2011 did the west back the rebels against the legitimate government if Libya? Why did they make a mess in Benghazi, kill Qaddafi and steal the majority of their known gold?
    My thoughts are that Qaddafi was planning to start a sovereign gold backed currency in Libya then all of North Africa, and finally throughout the rest of Africa. This currency would have been free of the World Bank stranglehold. The west had to obey their masters and destroy Libya. The lender is the master and the slave is always the borrower.

      Will, basically LNA controls 80% of the country and 41 out of 49 major cities in the country, however the Vast population in Libya live in those 8 cities that the GNA controls and roughly 2 million people live in the most important city which is Tripoli.
      And for what's happening with the war right now.
      it isn't just about taking Tripoli, Tripoli may seem like the main target at the moment which is mainly true but it's also about taking all of the remaining cities one by one by making the war zone in one place and making the Enemy gather his forces in one place.
      You may ask how is this gonna work.
      Ok you need to understand that the militias ruling tripoli aren't just the ones in it, for example misrata's militias can't let Tripoli fall to Hafter because then they will no longer have the ability to control the main bank, the oil and gas facilities and that's what they're trying to protect throughout the war besides fighting a war for Turkish agendas.
      okay, now let's talk what's happening on ground at the moment and whose winning, will obviously the LNA are winning with their attrition strategy killing about 1500 members of the militias and more than 7000 being injured and moving forward being only 6 kilometres away of the central of Capital, which made the GNA seek help from Turkey by bringing more mercenaries from Syria which is a very dumb move on so many levels, but again that's how desperate they are
      if isn't for the fragile truce since January 12th the war would have ended right now.
      I'm writing this at 2:20AM in my bed in Tripoli while a mortar 1 kilometre away from my house is being fired south and over my head :)

Betrayed by Gaddafi in the failed war with Chad, captured and forgotten (grew a hatred for Gaddafi from said betrayal). Brought to the US by the CIA to lead an anti-Gaddafi rebellion. Fought a unsuccessful rebellion against the Lybian regime. Was in the Israeli-Lebenon war and after that became a US citizen (he is a dual citizen of US and Lybia). Lived in the United States for 20 years next to Langley. Fought in the 2011 Lybian civil war and is now the leader of the LNA involved in a second civil war. I want to read this guy's bibliography and continue watching him to see what else he does in his life.
