- I just downloaded the new version of Xara's Photo and Graphic Designer v9 and the new photo erase tool really wowed me. This is so easy to use and does a wonderful job of cleaning up the background from a picture. In any case, I hope you like the tutorial. Please subscribe to my videos. And as always, you can comment on my videos either here or at www.Xara-Users.info where I post them.
You said magic words when you stated you "...just have to include all color shades that you want to keep [in the mask painter]..."! That key statement made the whole process much easier for me and a great deal less stressful. Thanks so much!
j1k2j3s4 I'm really glad that it helped. You are very welcome. :)
saved my backside friend i needed this.
I'm glad the tutorial helped you
Thanks Eric, clear and concise demo - something I didn't find on the Xara site. Kevin
Thanks for the tutorial. Clear and succinct! Xara rocks!
Thanks, Eric, for showing us how to use the new Mask Painter Tool in Xara's Photo and Graphic Designer 9, and yes, its ease of use and effectiveness in background removal did wow me, too.
Wow! Awesome tutorial! Thank you so much. I just purchased this software. I've watched the Xara Beginners videos and they suck! Your tutorial is much easier to understand. You should be making their tutorials for them! Lol!!!
Hi Madj, and thank you for your kind words. I am very grateful that you found the tutorial helpful. I have loads of other beginner tutorials out there so be sure to check them out as well and subsribe if you would like.
I oh I've already subscribed to your channel. Thank you again and I look forward learning from your tutorials.
Oh man! That is so good!
I'm glad you liked the tutorial, Christopher.
Hi Bryan,
You are more than welcome. I'm glad that you found the tutorial helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Regards,
Eric
Best trick I have learned so far!! Your "Heal" tutorial helped me also! I want to learn how to download and use filters. Do you have a video on that?
Hi Ray. I'm glad you liked the video. Sorry but I don't have a tutorial on how to download and use filters. It isn't a bad suggestion for a tutorial, however. I may have some free time coming up and if it turns out that I do, I'll do a bit of research and put one together for you. The basic concepts aren't that hard to grasp but using each individual filter will depend on the filter. Let me look into it.
@@NarrenzunftKalbach Thank you very much! I really like Xara but its not as user friendly as the program I used for years, Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10. Xara is, however more powerful. Getting used to it thanks to people like you. I have had it over a year and am only beginning to realize its capabilities. I can't get Digital Image Suite to install on my new Windows 10 computer even in "Compatibility Mode". Its out of print and they don't do updates anymore. I have several Magix audio and video programs and have trusted them for years so I downloaded Xara free 30 day trial and liked it compared to Photoshop Elements. Didn't like the feel of Photoshop. Thanks again! Subscribed!
@@3Nails1Cross4Given Hi Ray. As requested... ruclips.net/video/7Yd6euMJGmg/видео.html
Thank you so much for the tutorial. This would be awesome to clean up textures for 3d programs like Blender. I can see creating alpha channels for leaves and bushes, too, for use in experimenting with landscaping. Gotta have it!
Glad you like the tutorial, Gary. Thanks for your comment.
That is AWESOME! I love it!!

I'm glad you liked it, Doug. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you this was very useful in saving me time.
This is by far my most popular video. I'm glad that the tutorial saved you time (and maybe taught you something that can be useful again in the future).
Thanks, Kevin. I'm glad you found the video helpful. :)
Thanks alot! Really powerful and easy tool!
I'm glad you liked the tutorial.
thank You for the good video
Thanks Yvesyew. This is hands down my most popular video. I'm glad you liked it.
Wow, Thanks a Lot. That was Easy
You are welcome. I'm glad you liked the tutorial. :)
You are welcome. I'm glad that you found the tutorial useful. :)
thnx mate.. your video helped a lot
What a great tutorial, I never got it to work properly in photoshop but now I can (and must because I have a photo with a lot of flowers on a white background which I want to have transparent. I used xara in the past but never really got used to it but I rethink this again it is much more affordable than AI of PS
+Adriene van Dongen Thank you Adriene. I'm glad that you liked the tutorial. I agree that the Xara Designer products are more affordable and in most cases much easier to use.
the problem (for me) is there are numerous courses on AI and PS and I never found a detailed course on using and explaining the tools in Xara if you know a source for that I would join in a heartbeat!
+Adriene van Dongen There is no course per se for Xara products. There are many tutorials and videos available in various locations. RUclips for the videos, there you can use the two forums to ask for help and find tutorials, (www.Xara-users.info & www.talkgraphics.com) and then there is the www.XaraXone.com where there are some video tutorials. You should also check out www.xaraxone.com/html/tutorials.html for the archive of several years of print tutorials by Gary Priester the previous creator of the XaraXone. It was mostly Gary's tutorials that taught me the things that I know about Xara products today.

very funny! one of the links you gave showed a post of a course recently made by Xhris. It's for the pro version but I guess useful for me too. the first course, I guess, ever made and the good news is its free!
+Adriene van Dongen Glad that I could help. Happy Designing!
Thank you for your upload excellent. How do i do this with version 8 I cannot find the Mask and Region Tools.
Thank you very much for the tutorial. For some reason I cannot export the image without the white background. I can move it off of the white background and move it around as a vector, but for some reason, I can't export only the image....any ideas? Thanks again.
Hi Justin. Sure I have something you should try. I'm guessing that you are trying to export the image as a JPEG. Instead export the image as a PNG. After you have typed in a name for the file you want to save, click on the settings button (as opposed to the export button). In the PNG export bitmap options screen look at the "Color Depth" field. You should see True Color + Alpha listed there, if not change it. You can then press the "Export" button to finish saving the file. It is the "Alpha channel" that is the invisible part. That being said...you may still have a white border around your photo. To avoid that border, it would help if (before you export the PNG) you first placed the photo over a background that is a similar color to what you want to place it over eventually. I hope that makes sense.
See the answer above. I didn't realize that I was logged in as my alter ego. :)
It worked! Thank you so much man, I spent hours on this. Subscribed.
?This is excellent but can you convert this image into a three-dimensional model without the background
Hi Elkont, The answer is yes and no. If you want to create a 3D model using Xara's 3D tools and have holes where the background is invisible then no, you can't do that (or at least not without significant work). You can get a close approximation by creating a rough shape with the shape editor tool (in this example of my head and torso) that doesn't take into account each individual hair. Then use the PNG (image with no background) you created to fill that shape and make a 3D model from the rough shape. It won't be perfect but it should be close to what you are trying to do.
I have Xara Web Designer 9. I do not see "Mask Painter Tool". Can you tell me how I get it in?
he used Xara photo designer not the web one,, So I think the xara web didn't have the same feature,, you have to buy Xara photo designer or xara designer pro
Hi Ramesh Kamath, Unfortunately, the Mask Painter Tool is not a part of Web Designer 9. You will either need Photo and Graphic Designer or Designer Pro to get those features. Xara just released a new version (11) for both of those titles. The Designer Pro title essentially is both the Web Designer and the Photo and Graphic Designer titles in one program. Also as you already own a previous version they should be offering you upgrade discounts.
So that thing on the very far left with the tools. (pointer, zoom, eraser, redeye, etc) I don't see it on my screen, and I don't know how to open it.
Phantomus, I answered this question here where you posted it a second time.... ruclips.net/video/xrmxp7YYaLI/видео.html&lc=z22bhbbwkrqctfonpacdp435e5ua1lvenqd35j30tn1w03c010c
For some reason it didn't work on mine. I followed your lead but it only removed the background partially.
Hi Ethio Man. Without seeing what you are working on, it is very difficult for me to say what the problem is. That being said, I would guess that you somehow did not cover all of the colors that you wanted to erase with the eraser tool or some of the colors you protected were the same color as those you were trying to erase. Both of these things could cause some of the background to be left behind.
I finally got it. Thanks for the great demonstration.
thanks bro
You are welcome.
it only work perfect with simple background pics smh no matter how much of the background you pick
I have Xara 3D Maker 7 how do I get a photo to animate i have done it but forget how to do it If anyone can help me
Hi P. Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, the background erase tool is new to v9. Also the Mask and Region tools are new in v9, though their is a Mask Mode tool that works slightly differently. I have another video on the mask tool that you can view here. ruclips.net/video/q4RePo8btYI/видео.html
That face tho....
And what is it about my face that you don't like?
